    I attended school in Kingsville and one thing they tell you and is well known is that Captain King (as he is known) didn’t know anything about neither cattle nor ranching and the vaqueros/kiñenos thought him everything they knew.
    Also, ranches in Mexico used to be run in a similar manner, by families and workers that lived and worked there and Mexican ranch owners referred to them as “Peones”.

    some Hispanics did hold onto the land grants that they received from Spain. But, they got it on paper or formally entered into the records in some manner. even publishing it in the newspaper was a form of documentation.

      @@lazaroloya60 wow, forgot I wrote a comment a year ago over here. hi. unfortunately, I don't think the state of Texas officially recognizes those land grant holders' right to not pay property taxes anymore, though. there were some Anglo-Saxon settlers who also got their land from land grants when Texas was a territory of Mexico. Everyone is expected to pay property taxes these days, but I know there have been legal battles here and there. I have always wondered if their deeds say "owner" or "tenant." You take care.

      The king family stole most of the land they own from alot of families including my family. My great uncle was fighting the kings I'm court and did win some of the land back but not all of it. My great uncle was also the lawyer to LBJ the ex president. My family just started to receive the mineral rights and land back I believe it's by Roma we got the land back. Bit to sum it all up they stole most of it

      Texas has real cheap land in the 1800s because there is not much mineral resources other than oil, which at the time hasn’t been discovered.

    Quite a while ago, I watched a tour of a HUGE cattle ranch in mid-eastern Tex, (I thought it WAS the King ranch). The ranch was kinda rough-round shaped and really big on a Texas map. The cowboys ,workers, and their families lived on the ranch, with their own schools, churches and pretty near everything! Most of them were Mexicans who had lived there for generations. Does anyone know what ranch this might be? I'd like to see it again! btw I don't have any kind of illusive dreams and I don't DO drugs! ............Unless....I dunno, maybe it wasn't Tex. or something and I've got that wrong!

    • @liveoak144
      @liveoak144 5 лет назад

      half a dozen and another. probably most of the ranches in Texas are run like that. the kids may be home schooled, but most probably get bused into the town for school these days. But, the workers and owners and everyone just live on the same ranch and run it together like a family would. most workers eat breakfast and sometimes all meals with the family that owns it. many do have their own small chapel. many have their own gas storage and gas up at home. most ranches in texas are self-sufficient from mostly to all the way. any of them could be totally insular and produce everything if need be.

  • @joshuasagers
    @joshuasagers 11 лет назад +1

    no doubt simplot's is huge, but as far as cattle ranches go they only have 30,000 head, and deseret manages 44,000.
