My favorite aircraft of all time, and still one of the sexiest aircraft flying, with a service history going back to it's N-156 design days and its first operational flight in 1959. There is an old saying that still holds true, If it looks right it will be right. And to this day this airframe as the F-5N Tiger-II still often times more than not beats the best pilots and aircraft in the world it fly's against in dissimilar air combat maneuvering. Just ask the US Navy who are constantly attempting to acquire low hour airframes for their Top-Gun use. The latest upgrades completed by the Israeli Military Industry for Brazil and other nations, giving these Tigers newer and far more lethal teeth than ever.
@@cochinaable I would say if one were to pole the pilots that have gone up against the F-5N models used by both the US Navy and Air Force during their dissimilar air combat training and got there asses handed to them on a regular basis to this day, then yes, it's still very capable. In the hands of a well trained pilot who knows the limitations and strengths of the F-5 it's still a handful to face even by fourth and fifth generation aircraft. The Swiss Air Force still uses the model as a near front line fighter/ground attacker. The F-5M models that were upgraded by IMI for the Brazilian and Chilean air forces will be in front line service for the foreseeable future. Both now have cutting edge ESA radars, digital datalink fire-control systems and beyond visual weapons system comparable to the AIM-120 and AIM-9X missiles.
"If it looks right it is right" Not exactly educated and informative about the many serious technical design deficiencies of the F-5/F-20 that make what you say sound so silly and uninformed. My Nissan looks good but I would not race it at Le Mans, that would be insanely ignorant of the real life facts.
Esthétiquement parlant le F5 Tiger me plaît beaucoup, je trouve que c'est un avion très racé, mais par contre il commence à dater sérieusement, les Rafales, c'est pour quand ?
Anyone who thinks an F-5 is anything close to modern front line 4th gen fighters is insanely misinformed. It looks great but he actual performance specs reveal stunning weakness vs real modern primary fighters.
I didn't understand what you said? Yes the f-5 is outdated, in fact the Swiss are replacing their f-5's with f/a-18's in the near future. They are by no means "wankers"
@@CS-nq9sq Actually it is not clear yet with which plane is going to replace the F-5s. It's either gonna be the F-35, F/A-18 Super Hornet, Rafale or Eurofighter. But the F-5s are already kind of out of service today. They are still being used for displays (Patrouille Suisse), as 'targets' for the F/-18C/D and there are still some militia formations that fly the F-5. But for the real missions (air policing etc.) they aren't used anymore.
@@CS-nq9sq Well... Switzerland is not Sweden... But the Swiss already have F/A-18C and D Hornets since 1997. The candidate for the replacement is the newer and bigger F/A-18E/F Super Hornet (Block III). Edit: The Swedish JAS-39 Gripen E was also a candidate in the beginning, but about a year ago they left the evaluation due to some deadlines they weren't capable of fulfilling.

Not bad for 50 yr. old planes. The Swiss put on a great show.
I love my Swiss roots and Breitling

awesome video mate , great job
Thank you very much !!! MERCI
This is awesome! Always a thumbs up!!
Thank you my friend !!!
Beautiful plane
I still wonder how tiny the wings of the F-5 are. Its 1950s design is absolutely timeless.
Your 100% right
In Indonesia I can only see it in a museum now. I think it’s to soon to be in a museum. It would make a great aerobatic team.

Can they still hold their own with today's modern fighters?

Pretty streamers... but lame by modern standards. Maybe Swiss fails from not riding motorcycles? Or being Wanker Bankers and clock makers?
