I think what also makes this so confusing and hard is that you are not used to that each piece has more than 4 possible orientations, actually there are 8. In a conventional jigsaw puzzle you will have a printed and a unprinted side. This fact is missing here wich simply doubles the amount of possible arrangements. Additinally the puzzle has a unique way how the pieces interloce with each other, that also goes against your intuitive way of thinking how a jigsaw puzzle has to work. What a beautiful piece of art!
I think there may have been a big clue in the fact that the lobes of a lot of the unexpected "edge" pieces must have been visually very flat instead of rounded?
@Trif 55 good thought but if you look at other pieces that aren't part of the outer edge many have flat tops that are less rounded as well. They look very similar to the pieces that do fit along the edge. So it looks like the creator accounted for that little detail.
I think the problem was the assumption that pieces were to be linked together at the middle and were "female" and "male". Having the two sides and only "female" pieces made it clear that they needed to be offset such that the corner of one piece would fit into the middle of another

The sad part of this is that the original part of a solution that he discarded was actually correct. You can see the sides there in the final piece. The part he got tripped up on is the distinction between female and male parts, and sides and not sides. Any distinction or preconceived idea you have about jigsaw puzzles must be eliminated in order to solve this puzzle, and THAT is what makes it so difficult for people, but is why the girl can do it. You can actually see that each end of the 'female side pieces' fit into another piece as if they were a 'male' piece, which is why thinking with rules or physics or logic doesnt totally work. Any and all pieces can be male, female, or a side piece, despite the general 'rules' around jigsaw puzzles. Its oddly inspiring in a bizzare sort of way :>
Yeah. I started mentally screaming when, at aroung 18:42, he wasnt seeing that one side of the puzzle was going to be inverted. Of course, I probably would have missed it if the puzzle was right in front of me, but doesnt mean I wasnt screaming inside my head. The fact he even mentioned that it was an "illogical" or untraditional puzzle but tried solving it traditionally. Bruh. When you have a puzzle, especially one thats made to be a logical puzzle and not picture-based, you cant really do what you would with a regular one. That defeats the purpose.
@@arkfire213 Its part of my line of work to refer to plugtops as male and female as well as various other things. It makes you seem immature if every time something like that is mentioned you giggle.
I think that the reason most adults can't finish this puzzle and the girl did is because adults 2nd guess themselves a lot, and kids just go with the idea until it's completely wrong. As we grow older we learn from the adults around us to second guess ourselves and to be more aware of things like weight, body type, race, language and other things.
To add, I think the reason why we are more careful and tend to second-guess is because we usually suffer heavier consequences from our failures as adults, and that there's more risk.

The pieces are lesbian
This puzzle is breaking down gender norms. Good job puzzle.
The amount of times you said "female side pieces" without giggling is a good reminder that Canada really is just a more innocent place.
You're just immature
@@Cephalobong Your also immature, if you say someones immature.
@@miramc2181 Thats the most illogical statement I've heard in a while. The word exists for a reason
Nah I just think it's you that would most likely giggle at that. It's a normal term like the female and male sides of plugs
@@arkfire213 Its part of my line of work to refer to plugtops as male and female as well as various other things. It makes you seem immature if every time something like that is mentioned you giggle.
8:53: me in kindergarten when I’m trying to put a 1 piece puzzle together.
This puzzle is just proving we shouldn’t discriminate between edges, corners, and middle pieces
Idek anymore how is this not more popular
This feels like a sort of BBC comment
Ramsey:There is five corners
5th corner:I’m about to end this mans whole career
5th corner:Bing,bada bap boop, POW
I think that the reason most adults can't finish this puzzle and the girl did is because adults 2nd guess themselves a lot, and kids just go with the idea until it's completely wrong. As we grow older we learn from the adults around us to second guess ourselves and to be more aware of things like weight, body type, race, language and other things.
Little kids literally YEET the pieces together hoping for a good result
slow your roll Socrates, its a puzzle
To add, I think the reason why we are more careful and tend to second-guess is because we usually suffer heavier consequences from our failures as adults, and that there's more risk.
Your intros are so amazing. They really add to the fun, mystery and showmanship of your videos.
"That looks easy, maybe I'm lucky" ... 20 minutes later ... "I can't even get two pieces together!"
😂😂😂 This video is surprisingly entertaining
If my dad were still alive he would have absolutely adored this puzzle, I might be tempted to still buy ti in memory of him and frame it as a reminder. Thank you for showing me this puzzle, it reminds me of his passion of jigsaws.
Richard Lamarre this is so pure
@@joe.unbound He was cremated so I would leave it with my mother.

After he poured them out and started from the middle and he connected the second piece and was so happy about it saying “YES” I felt that
I read this as he said it 😂😂
“i feel like its my life’s work, and it’s pathetic” i felt that
When you realise that what he abandoned at 14:30 was actually part of the final solution (one side is flipped)
there's a hitler joke in there somewhere lol

I saw that immediately

This puzzle took me just over 2:30 hours to finish. I did it over two days after resetting three times. It was very fun. I gave it to my son for x-mas and he did it in 47 minutes. Great challenge. Love your videos Chris.
The solution often turns out more beautiful than the puzzle.
Puzzle Adda

Addict? Maybe?
