- The wilderness of Madhya Pradesh hosts one of the most beautiful avian residents in the world, the Indian Paradise Flycatcher. Christened as the state bird of MP in November 2001, it has been a sought-after subject of many birdwatchers and photographers. Manish Shukla, an intrepid bird photographer from the city of Bhopal happened to come across a nest of this beautiful bird and was able to visually document the amazing nesting cycle of this species right from incubation to the chicks fledging to adulthood. The film has been directed and narrated by naturalist and film-maker, Shashank Birla, edited by Shristi Rani, along with additional video and image contributions by Avinash Bhagat, Dipu Karuthedathe, Vipul Saxena and music composed by Rafael Krux.

It is truly a bird from paradise. I was sitting in our house front porch and sang a song praising God for his creation. This paradise bird showed up, sand a song and quickly flew off . It was the first time I had seen the bird. It looked so magical with the white long tail and bright blue head.
Wonderful, happy to hear you saw this bird :)
The male paradise flycatcher visited my home garden once.I was so happy and glad that it came to garden.I felt so joyful being a bird lover that day
Wonderful to hear the bird has visited your garden, all the best for future sightings!
@@ShashankBirla these birds seen near to the sea beaches....Dudharaj is new name.Indian paradise flycatcher, bird with very long tails like two ribbons hanging...I have seen regularly a white colour bird with black crown on the head & a pair of white ribbons like tail.who stayed near my house on trees for two years...sat in my window along with other birds to eat food,i used to give regularly to other small colourful birds..,so I could observe very closely when it came close....
I also saw yellowish orange bird? Female.
.recently I saw a same type of bird with greyish colour flying with two long ribbons tail emitting sparks like fire crackers..& i noticed because tail made sound like fire crackers....it was a great surprize for the first time & all other birds, crows tried to chase him...& it went towards the trees. to hide...
Had Shukla seen this? May be due to friction of the feathers...fire was seen like an electricity sparks...in the morning 🙏
My office is near woods. I saw them daily dancing on my fences. I haven't seen one before I got posted in this new office. Truly it looks like they have descended from heaven

Hi Thanks for this beautiful video. I vividly remember seeing this bird in my college campus in the year 2004. I was sitting in a bench in our campus alone. I heard a long ribbon moving upwards and I was so surprised to find out it was a bird's tail. None of my friends believed me. However I learnt the name.of the bird only few years ago.
Thank you, happy to hear you liked the video. Few forget their first encounter with this bird, happy to hear yours left a lasting impression too :)
Today a saw paradise flycatcher Near my home that’s why I searched about this bird
Wonderful to hear, congratulations on the sighting!
beautiful, thank you!
Thank you, our pleasure!
I am from Chandrapur, maharashtra. I roam around jungles nearly 3 weeks and found this insanely beautiful bird. I wish I could touch it and hold it in my hands!😔
We are very glad you found this bird, but would not advise handling it. Wild birds may carry a number of parasites, viruses and the act can be unsafe for both the handler and the bird.
What an amazing video.
Thank you :)
Nice video man, keep up the good work!
Best regards.
Thank you, happy to hear you liked it :)
Superbly filmed such a beautiful bird
It truly is, happy to hear you enjoyed the movie, Thuji :)

I just saw this in my backyard, googled brown bird with blue head and came here. Amazing looking bird.
Went to Jim Corbett...saw nothing but a fleeting glance of this beauty.... I think I have started falling in love with birds.
Wish you many more encounters with this species. Happy birding :)

Man, your video is so good!!! The introduction!! You introduce this beautiful bird with such a divine admiration!! Love it. Beautiful relaxing video which uplifts the spirit!
I saw Paradise Flycatcher twice when I was in India!! Both times at very sacred places - under Arunachala in Tiru and in the Western Complex of Temples in Khajuraho! India is amazing.
And you have videos on identifying trees, wow!!! Man, you have a new subscriber! :-)
Thank you so much for the appreciation and very happy to hear you have seen the Indian paradise flycatcher as well. Happy to hear you are enjoying the other content on our channel as well, thank you for subscribing :)
wow... this is amarzing bird. Greak work.. I like this.
Thank you
Great movie and narration! A rare treat to the eyes. Thank you, Shashankji. I came across this bird in the forests of Sirsi, Karnataka, three years ago, and could only manage a few shots of this beautiful bird from a distance. Couldn't find its name, though, so far. Only today could I get to know its name, from an avid bird enthusiast whom I met accidentally. She identified the bird as a male Bird of Paradise, which she had seen in Udaipur.
Thank you so much, happy to hear you enjoyed the movie and have personally observed and photographed the bird. Wish you many more moments with it :)

Hello, the Indian paradise flycatcher is usually seen in two colors (morphs) - white and light orange (there may be some birds that display a bit of both - white and orange). The first bird you have described fits the description of the same. We are not sure about the other birds mentioned.
Lovely 😊
Thank you :)
I saw this bird at marudhamalai. Located in coimbatore, Tamil Nadu
Lucky you! 🙂
Hi i am from dehradun uttrakhand. We call it dhobhi chidiya..the white long tailed
Good to hear of its local name, thanks for sharing :)
Great
Thank you, hope you enjoy the movie :)
I saw a similar bird here in Tamil Nadu but instead of rufous brown it was black and short tailed . By any chance is it the same bird ?
If it was completely black, then it is unlikely to be an Indian paradise flycatcher. Please check if it might have been a drongo.
@@ShashankBirla thank for reply. I'm pretty sure it is not drongo. It is not completely black. Same body like this rufous color fly catcher but instead of rufous brown it is black with white body.
@@manikandann131 Please do check if possible to get a photo of it if you spot it next time as I am not clear on which bird this could be based on the description.
@@ShashankBirla Hi I have found name of the bird I saw ... its Jacobin Cuckoo.
@@manikandann131 Fantastic, that's a lovely sighting. This is a species that migrates through most of India at the start of the monsoon. In certain parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, they are also found year round :)
And With All These Signs They Disbelieve In Almighty Creator
Nice
Thank you :)
I have seen a female paradise flycatcher with a very long tail, longer than the male shown in the above video. Is this common?
The male can be seen in different morphs, it can be rufous orange as well with a long tail, pure white or even a combination of the two shades. The birds with a long tail would be the male.
Here in South Western up these birds are quite rare but I have seen some of them.
They are a resident species through most of India, but they do make seasonal local movements. In the Southern Western Ghats, according to eBird, they tend to be observed more in the winter and early summer months.
Where are you from? I want to ask because even I am an e birder .
