- This is just a quick video to explain the diffrences between glass, crystal and lead crystal. i also explain in very simple terms what lead crystal is.
Hi, I love cooking, eating and I enjoy teaching others about things in the kitchen so I decided to start this project. I have decided to focus on making product Review/Overview videos and the odd advise video when I just can't help myself.

So that's that. I went to Utube to find that difference between lead crystal and glass and you gave it to me.
I worked at Edinburgh Crystal, was a glass blower for 15 yrs, good times
15 years your must have really developed an art for it
What are “Crystal elements”?
Thanks just got a crystal whiskey glass set and the sound of clinking the glasses is unbelievably musical
I think it makes drinks taste better too.

Q
There are two kinds of crystal. 1) Lead Oxide and 2) Titanium Oxide. With lead oxide crystal, it is safe to drink out of as long as you aren’t drinking something that has been sitting there for a long time. It’s perfectly fine otherwise.
The ringing in lead crystal is much easier to hear in glasses with a stem, like a champagne flute.
Indeed it is
Or if you pick it up so the wooden table doesn't absorb the sound....
Sound is mostly defined by shape and not material, practically anything can sound good if the shape is right.
Thank you for your extensively informative video ❤
How do they produce that gorgeous periwinkle blue tint in the crystal? Also, is it possible to use a different metal than lead?
Have you noticed any differences on the way each glass ages? Meaning; do they all get that "blurry" smudged look(for lack of a better word), especially around the opening?
Thanks!
They shouldn't so, lead crystal will be the most resilient either way.
Don't wash them in the dishwasher and use Bar Keepers Friend occasionally to keep the residue off
My favorite lead crystal glass is the Dorset cordial mini goblet shot glasses from William Sonoma I have 2 lead crystal shot glasses that tiny crystal shot glass goblet and a whisky lead crystal glass just cuz I want something nice for my alcohol when I drink it cuz why not lol 😂
Could you do a video on superfest glass from the GDR
It’s extremely strong and not toxic
cristal d'arques longchamp is led Cristal or cristal???
Please comment on if depression glass is lead crystal which is bad to eat or drink out of it.
Hello, If they break, they will cut your hand the same???
Yep.
Last part was funny....to see you try repeatedly to bring out that ringing effect....I think a bigger glass would have helped you demonstrate that. Thank you for the video.
Some times it doesn’t all go to plan.
also A SPOON
Or pick it up
...and don't dampen it with a block of wood.
In the stores they market the Lead free like it’s supposed to be the best version.
Obviously the price is higher on the lead ones
I much prefer the lead crystal, it's weight and fineness makes me feel nicer in the hand. It's also generally thinner and has more of a shine.
@@ChrismasKitchen Lead crystal is not safe to drink from, especially alcoholic beverages that increase the leach effect of lead into the liquid. You ever wonder why the life expectancy was 30-40 years old back then? They didn't know stuff like this.
What kind of whiskey glass was in the middle?
Suaranya seperti orang jual es cendol. Nice video❤❤❤
Cheers, lad
Wouldnt the led crystal be dangerous?
Yes, the lead leaches out of the glass into whatever you're drinking slowly poisoning you over time.
es óxido de plomo , no tiene más propiedades típicas del plomo puro, hay unos vasos que brillan verde y tienen uranio también es loco
Nice
Lead crystal is the weirdest thing I’ve seen in a good while
It has a real shine to it
Is that not neurotoxic ? Lead mercury everywhere
The lead dose not leave the glass
So should be ok
@@ChrismasKitchen but lead from lead pipes become in our drinking water
It does
Does that mean that we drink lead in our drinks over time?
That's a great question, the lead doesn't come out so i shouldnt worry.
@@ChrismasKitchen 👍🏼
For those concerned about lead content in their crystal glassware, it really only poses a health question for crystal decanters. The reason being wine and spirits are typically kept in decanters for longer than a glass of wine. This produces a greater window of time for lead to possibly leach out of it. I do not recommend that you store anything in crystal for long periods of time and that you don’t leave a drink in your glass for more than a few hours, as this can increase the likelihood of lead leaching into your beverage. I also recommend that you wash your glasses before and after every use.
I wouldn’t worry about it, lead’s good for you
@@winkmurder would putting crystals in a dishwasher increase the risk?
fine crystal more better
Indeed

Lead is poisonous
Yes it is, all this people that I've seen on the internet or selling the products saying "It shouldn't be a problem" or saying... "It's not a problem if you don't let the liquid for a long time.", are lying. It has been declared there's no portion considered safe of Lead in the blood, the lower BLL the better. But they're just worried about selling and don't care about what happens to you.
Yes it is but it is fine as long as it's not something you are going to leave something in for a long period that you plan to ingest. Using a glass with wine or whiskey in it is just fine as long as you don't plan on letting it sit for days upon days
Are we really quoting grade 3 information?
@BonJursyes it is but in this case i dont think it's dangerous. The fact that you dont consume the glass itself, should mean you wont get lead poisoning. You'd also have to ingest a certain amount before lead can become poisonous and if it was the amount that the glass surface has, i would have had lead poisoning a long time ago [I work with lead fittings]
That’s what they want you to believe.
The worst video I saw. Recommend you to take a materials science class 101, then you can better explain the difference between amorphous and crystalline structures.
