I made it by cutting the side metal with a jigsaw and put on rubber lining for a car that i got on ebay and bought the plexiglass from a hardware store cut it to size and slapped it in using 3m double sided tape.

How can i see which is the proper ram since a lot people bought ddr 3 rams but they do not work? Some say ut need dual rank ddr3 ram slot @1066 or 1333 MHz. Is that correct? As for the processor i'd better buy a xeon E5450, E5420 or E5470 you bought? I mean E5420 is 1/3 of the price of E5470 but is it 1/3 of the speed and quality? Also i am not going to use windows will i meet any problems with linux, or i have to use windows for the update to work? Last but not least: buying a Q9550 will fit better than xeons? Thanks a lot. I am on a budget you see.

and yes you can use linux, ubuntu or mint whatever you want.
In my opinion tho that machine is old and not powerful, maybe good for a paper weight but that's about it.
If your on a budget buy a optiplex 990 MT or something similar and max that out. check this one i did in another video i did.

At the time i think it was a 750w something which it does not need that much wattage but thew it in there anyways. 450w would do just fine.

How did you put 8 gb of ram? How much was the speed of the ram?
That is the max capacity according to Dell for that model (Dell Optiplex 380 MT) but i'm pretty confident that it can goto 16gb. Other people have done it by simply popping the sticks in.
