Even good players, as far as i know, don’t go into as much depth but they’ll calculate a higher variety of lines for the opponent. They’d only calculate the opponents move in depth if their opponents moves are either limited or forced.

lol that poor entombed rook. the domination by Ben's pieces was so fun to watch. also I loved how he allowed the doubling of his b pawns for the knight - bishop trade, knowing that the b pawn actually did even more damage to the mobility of blacks queenside pawns than an intact structure would have. completely crippled the black c pawn, which was needed to support the b and d pawns or you'd have easy pickings for a rooks (and two bishops!) end game. it's those little positional lessons that make me enjoy Bens games against Gotham

Ben is a GM but he really doesn’t play at a good GM level anymore. He’s old and basically retired. He gets beaten by IMs all the time. Levy is a high IM with a GM norm and he will probably soon achieve GM title if he tries. He would probably already have the title if not for COVID.
The saddest part about the Hikaru shit is that the two funniest chess personalities can't make structured content together. Ben made GM at age 40, Levy could learn a thing or two from the guy.

So if a pawn moves two squares at once, but could've been captured if it went one square at a time, the first turn after it moves it can be captured as if it moved one square. En Passant is French for In Passing, basically, your pawn cut down their pawn in passing as it whooshed by.

Nah they don’t need to calculate most of the time they just know what moves look good
Grandmasters are exceptionally good at evaluating positions. So as stated above, sometimes they don't have to calculate, they just see.
