this song has been my ring tone for years and even now if I'm in a queue some where the people around me all start tapping and singing ! Nice one R.E.M.
I dedicate this song to Dennis who we lost yesterday. I didn't really know him, just another passing by me in the hallway, but now that he is gone, it feels empty. Even though I never got a chance to get to know him. I know he didn't deserve to die in his own hands. Rest In Peace Dennis, From a friend you'll never have :)
This song (and Shiny Happy People) really reminds me of when I was about five years old in the summer. My mum would take me and my sister/brothers down the cycle track and we'd watch the trains go by. Life was so simple back then.
Thank you! I've always loved this song, but never before realized how great the lyrics are: "The lengths that I will go to # The distance in your eyes..." - that is pure poetry! "Losing my religion # Trying to keep a view # And I don't know if I can do it # Oh no, I've said too much # I haven't said enough" ->"What else is love, but understanding and rejoicing in the fact that another person lives, acts and experiences otherwise than I do? (Nietzsche)" That's what the song is all about to me.
I'm a metalhead and recently listened to Trivium's cover of this song, getting excited when I read they did, actually mistaking it for a different song. Coincidentally, my friend put this song on in his car last night and I was blown away. Such a great song, I might have to go download the entire R.E.M. discography hahahaha.
"Trying to keep an eye on you like a hurt lost and blinded fool" that part discribes me watching over my dad because last year his wife died and we really miss her...i've started losing my religion, losing faith that i could continue to watch him...i feel so helpless watching him and not knowing what to do.
we have seen this video in our class .. I remember it .. I always listen to this song .. Thank you shering this with us . ı REMember my good memories when i listen that .. :(
Great song! ^_^ Finally, a STUDIO version!!! Yeeeeaaaaaahhh! Took me long but I found it! PS: I ALWAYS listened: It's me in the corner, it's me in the "spot", "like" loosing my religion!!! Am I the only one???
Its a very well written song!Nice n easy to play! Im glad ive added it to my catalogue of covers!A Beginner Guitarist could learn to play it in one day! But it works so well & some times,,actually, most of the time, the best songs, are the simplest!
hi, great job of doing the studio version.. to help with singing along, could you consider showing the lyrics a second or two earlier..it gives the singer time to read :) and it may help to put several lines up at once..thanks!
Bands like REM just prove that you don't need to go on American Idol with a perfect voice that can handle riffs to be amazing. You just need to be on tune, be able to write songs, and play instruments that aren't created with a computer.
cssfanxl, is it? Whatever. This is just outstanding! It can't have been easy to keep the music and video elements of such an emotional song in sync. But you did it in impressive fashion! WTG!
This is a great version. The lyrics and quality are fantastic. Great job! It was a bit hard to find a decent version of this song, as well as "It's the End of the World as We Know It." Very much appreciated. Thumbs up. :3
yes,the visualization is a Winamp plug-in, it's called Classic Spectrum Analyzer. You can find it here: winamp(dot)com/visualization/classic-spectrum-analyzer/165966 You can play the song in winamp, turn on this visualization and use a pc screen recorder to capture it...
The song comes from the old southern saying "losing my religion" which comes from the area around louisiana alabama and mississippi. it figuratively means you are in another mindset, or more literally not centered and sort of disconnected from yourself psychologically.
I love this song! I'm a girl of 13 , for this type of songs, most of my friends think I'm weird, but in reality they are the rare, tell me, what type of person does not like this song??!! only fools..THIS SONG IS FUCKING GOOD!
@trushzmi the last effect was captured in Winamp's visualization. The vis plugin is classic spectrum analyzer aol(dot)it/xNFgXb I played the song with winamp and I recorded the visualization with a capture program
This song is amazing, as is the quality of this video. This song, along with Shake it Out by Florence + the Machine, are my theme songs at the moment- but not because I'm 'Losing my Religion' (I'm an atheist, sooo... Yeah..) because I'm losing faith in everything I've known. Sometimes I wish that this is in fact 'Just a dream, just a dream, dream...'.....
Actually the phrase "losing my religion" is an idiom which roughly means that one is at the end of their rope (yay for using another idiom to explain an idiom) but basically means one is losing their temper or civility. I thought that was a cool piece of info.
Actually, I had always thought it was hint, but his suggestion actually makes MORE sense, and there is no "the" in that line. "Consider this pent up a century", ie, this has been building up for what seems like forever. Makes perfect sense, moreso than "Consider this hint of the century", not that the hint of the century line isn't also possible and sensible...
That's me losing my religion to vanity. Try, Cry, Why try? Life is suffering and losing yourself is like being asleep. You just sit in the corner and try to make sense out of it. My religion teaches that I should overcome, should I lose it; I would be like him. Depressed, lonely, and afraid. It is my religion that empowers me to make change according to his will through my works. Try, Cry, Why try? Understanding why is difficult, and to many takes a back seat to self pity. Be you but See you, and you shall never question your understanding because it is not your own, it is his. He is because I am, and I am because I am. Take it back.
Thianks for bothering to do this.. i often look for videos to practice vocals with. A constructive suggestion would be for lyrics to appear a second or two earlier, so that they can be read in time to sing them, and also putting several lines up at once.. thanks!
@TomPhace That's exactly the reason why I came up with the idea of posting this onscreen lyric video for this awesome song, because it didn't exist nowhere else in youtube... Thank you for watching! ;)
This is one of those songs my father would play a lot back then. It's great to go back to listening to this again.
this song has been my ring tone for years and even now if I'm in a queue some where the people around me all start tapping and singing ! Nice one R.E.M.
Well it's nice to know that the latest generation is willing to keep some of these songs alive. So for him to say he's 14 means a lot to me.
I dedicate this song to Dennis who we lost yesterday. I didn't really know him, just another passing by me in the hallway, but now that he is gone, it feels empty. Even though I never got a chance to get to know him. I know he didn't deserve to die in his own hands. Rest In Peace Dennis,
From a friend you'll never have :)
Unrequited love. Ouch. Not only can u feel his pain in the music but the lyrics are down right poetic. Amazing song.

@WJValente It's about having a big crush on someone and dropping hints to see if the other person feels the same way.

"Read between the lines" is the name of the song. ^^
@Mackenprinz nah it sounds close cuz he says lengths like "lay-ngths" but it is lengths! :)
