I never thought I'd hear someone defend Smash Tour, much less in a Ring Racers video of all things, but very interesting to see! That whole point about mods is something I never really thought about. Whenever I play, mods just added a couple new courses and playable characters. Gameplay tweaks were always minor or non existent, but random servers could definitely increase the chaos factor to a point that could get unenjoyable very quickly. Ring racers frontloads all its mechanics (to a fault, I'd say, since it drives people away) but once you get the hang of it, it feels so clean and satisfying, and you don't have to learn more chaotic stuff I don't mind the less sonic-core aspect of it personally, some of the modded characters do look really nice on their own, but I do understand your point on that Overall, great video, happy I stumbled upon it :)
Fantastic video, I hope so much that my Laptop can run this gane it looks so good, and the ring mechanic is just genius risk vs reward design, I can't believe that games like this exist for free
I'm still bamboozled about some people being mad at how complex this game is and how you can't just un lock everything by default like huh??? Has your ass played a GAME before? Are you THAT lazy?? I swear, one day literally all my progress got corrupted for no reason but the game is so good I didn't even get MAD about me losing all my progress, but instead intrigued on what things I could unlock now that I didn't know to unlock before. Absolutely NO game has made me so interesed in LOSING PROGRESS. People really be hating just because their fragile, feeble mind refuses to compute because of how nutrient deprived their thought process is because they don't eat and stay all day on their tinker machines making people's day miserable. Anyways all I could say I would want from this game is a gameplay tweak where you can go into ring debt and actually get a boost from using it, because a risk and reward ring system sounds interesting, while you keep using those missing rings, your engine deteriorates more until you explode, only being fully repaires if you get a certain amount of rings. This was a pretty nice video, you explained how the game and player experience is going so far magnificently, exactly how I would have explained it lmao. Hope you make more bangers like this in the future.
At launch I was more thinking the "complexity" was pretty shallow (I still think it somewhat is tbh- boost items are crazy powerful). Game's stull fun tho
I like unlocking chars and stuff but imagine starting the game without time attack, addons and online play (you only had 1 color too), and having to play the 40 minute tutorial. I know they improved it in the later versions but at launch it felt like the devs did not believe in their game, that they were insecure about it.
I appreciate every criticism here, it's so strange to watch people dunk on this game for having more effort put into it for some reason. The one L take in this is that Modding is bad for the game, I think it's good for the health and lifespan, as well as the fact that Online is separated between vanilla and Modded, allowing to quickly get into fun vanilla lobbies. I think theres enough content here that there will be less prevalence of modded stuff than there was with srb2k. Edit: missed the last couple minutes before commenting, disregard my final criticism

The devs actually have prepared something for that, which was not mentioned on the video but was provided since 2.1: The game contains a passwords file that has both a temporal "unlock all stuff" for Tournaments (I've used it when playing outside of my PC) and permanent passwords for specific types of unlocks (chars, colors, maps) As someone that has been loving to unlock *most* stuff in the game (I've keyed a handful of challenges lol), those passwords were hella handy when, again, at one point I had to play outside of my own PC and wanted to jump online or practice in Master diff with Vectorman.
