It looks great Mike ! I like the design concept. I remember the days I cut everything out of plywood. Today we have the option of light weight materials that in my opinion are easier and more forgiving to work with !! Looking forward to seeing more !
Really neat way to do your layout Mike! That foam tack is awesome. If I ever decide to redo my layout, this will be the way I go about it. Thanks for sharing!!!!!!💗
WOW, you move quick. Looks like you're using a modified NOLIX (LOL). I love the idea, and once I "SAW" realized it is probably something I should have done. This is one project I will watch with envy. Using the foam as you did is something I have never seen done - Looking forward to seeing more innovative ideas. Thanks, Mike!
The good old Mercy rule for kids BB. It works so they don't get hurt. Love BB. Spent many of days playing those 7 inning games. Work progress is going quick.
Hi ya Mike. All super interesting. You have learnt so much from previous layouts. Hence, so have we. Thanks. See ya next time. Oh…. I almost forgot. Congratulations to Gavin and his team. Pretty awesome.
Really great video. A great track plan and it is great seeing it completed. I am sure it is time consuming, but it sure looks great. Can't wait until your next video to see how far along you are.
Congratulations to the G-man and his team. You can't go wrong with testing, it saves a lot of headaches. You're moving right along. Looking forward to the next update.
Foam Baby! Gotta love those Woodland Scenics risers and rigid foam. My only wish is I would like to see the riser width an inch wider for running double track on the curves for added space between the tracks since I am not using Kato but Micro Engineering flex code 55, once I can get it. Maybe by Winter of 2022. A neighbor brought me a sheet of 1/2" blue. $30 now. Not sure what you paid for the 2" but well worth the price. Anyway, you are making great progress and love watching your updates. My goal is to get better at my video presentations.
Cool 😎 construction Mike. Very much like the simplicity you’ve thought through and also the amount of material, or, in actuality how you economize on the amount of material you need for this construction. Think a bunch of lift out scenic modules at the back end will provide an excellent opportunity to enhance the field of depth on your new layout. Some low relief hills, buildings (z scale) and roads will really add to the perspective, before the eyes are drawn into the 2D of the backdrop. Very cool to watch your approach and vid. Congratulations to your son’s baseball team, for such an excellent achievement.
Looks great Mike! Having the 2% incline/decline is a way better option than a helix. It is simpler and easier to clean/maintain, especially since they are pretty much straight tracks. Grerat progress in such a short time! Cheers from Melbourne,Australia!
Well it looks like it's coming along nicely there Mike I like your ideal of laying the track and testing it out before covering it to make sure there's no problems we are just getting too old to be bending down and going under our layouts to retrieve cars and engines oh and by the way congratulations to your grandson and his baseball team on their win of the tournament 👍👍
Looks good so far, Mike. If I may, I would make the top level sceniced areas removable for access to the lower level. The way it is currently designed, it will be impossible to access the lower level in case a problem with the trackage arises.
Great progress, Mike. You may have to cut a bevel on the bottom of the yard foam to give more accessibility to the incline/decline tracks at the back wall. It looked tight from what I saw. Thanks for the update, David.
I have never understood why you would want your tracks and trains to be hidden 🤔 It will be interesting to see what you come up with !! Looking good Mr Mike 👊
I think this is far superior to a helix, especially since you have the space. I too think a few strategically placed rerailer tracks might allow self correction of accidental derailment.
The Pretty Naked Skeleton that needs a little fill here & a little fill there in this layout no Helix is needed to get from upper level to lower level Uncle Mike I watched with Awe the Splendor that was your last Layout how you used the Foam and you got it too look so Good (I Gotta ask where did you get that thick of Foam uncle Mike please share some trade secrets the thickest I seen at Home Depot was about 2" inches that you have almost looked like 4" do they make it that thick).. But back the Layout & to dropping the Tracks how using this method with Kato Unitrack you can drop it down hide back behind a Riser bring it through a loop to set your Yard it's amazing the things you can do with these easy set Rizers I probably could do something with my Layout just using these Riser along K-61 the Road is level and flat but the UP tracks incline to set the Bridge over 30th street after the Tracks get past 30th they dip back to level with the Roadway but as they move east they drop under Street Grade to go under the 43th street Bridge.. so if could model that I might have something on my Layout... But I'm here too watch that beautiful Skeleton become something like your last layout was and if this layout tops it Well Uncle Mike give yourself a big ole Pat on the Back.. Lets see some More.. Hugs to ya 🤗 Uncle Mike & Miss Robin and the Puppies they need our Love as well... Allen D
Ahh.. after closer inspection I see ACTRR is your own fictional route. Shame the Albuquerque Eastern hasn't been built - seems Tijeras canyon would be a challenge. Do you happen to know more about what route it (and therefore your fictional line) would have taken through the canyon?
I figure you will solder the track for the long runs I do my Kato track 3 ft. at a time. That is one draw back on Kato track straight track length they need to come up with not a flex track but 2 ft. sections. Such a long hidden distance you plan to run feeders every 3 ft.? Your construction looks very well thought out and should be bullet proof( I am sure Lisa would agree) I use Styrogoo glue from the Hot Foam factory works great wood to foam also. Till next time
Question for Mike ("newbie" question?): At the upper layer/lower layer track crossings where the track is on incline (where you mentioned the upper track would be self-supporting)... Did you lay the upper layer incline foam thru the crossing and cut out the part that would interfere with the lower track, or did you just make a separation and restart past where the lower track passes? If the latter case, how does the stiff roadbed Kato track handle the transition from 2% to 0% and back to 2%? Is it a matter of using different track piece lengths to position the joints where the incline changes? Thanks for sharing this process with us!
Just my $.02 worth here but why ballast the hidden track? Only ballast what is actually seen going down or coming up from the lower level. You're using KATO track which, really, doesn't need ballasting.
@@N-Scale to be able to rerail By hand, vs car removal? And when you’re showing your front cover layout to the people at N scale magazine and a wheel jumps the tracks it is re railed before you even notice. And the train doesn’t embarrass you! Impressive progress. Nice to see how it is planned out with foam in place.

WoW loooooong track runs I wish I had that much space. My current layout is 30" x 60" with a 16" x 36" L. My yard/Harbour is on the L.
It is all about fun and not always the size of the layout.
Have Fun !!!
@@N-Scale still it would be nice for a to run long train a long way lol.

The object of hidden track is a longer mainline run and to get multiple trains further apart.
Thanks , Mike
Tim Edge No more idle time now. Looks good to see progress. Wondering if your 2" clearance includes the track height.
The actual clearence will be 1 3/4 " above track level

very exciting Mike. I am rethinking how I might do my layout. How many incline/decline sets did you need to use? to do what you showed?
Only one each way so far

The piece of track there will just span the gap with no bridge at that point.

Mike question What are you using to glue the track down?
I normally do not glue it down , but when I need to I usually use Hot Glue.

Just my $.02 worth here but why ballast the hidden track? Only ballast what is actually seen going down or coming up from the lower level. You're using KATO track which, really, doesn't need ballasting.
I will not be ballasting it but I will be taping the top of the risers
