What a great video about my Hometown. I was born and raised in Greenville and lived on the shores of Moosehead. I was raised working in "the store" or as you called it Sanders General Store (it's full name was D. T. Sanders and son or locally as Sanders Store). It is now Northwoods Outfitters. Mike, the owner, has kept the same feel (at least to me) as how it was when I was raised there. There is no place else like Moosehead Lake and the surrounding region.
my daughter and I popped a tire in our jeep about 5 years ago on the Greenville rd. before kokadjo , we were coming from the Golden Rd. and Millinocket . That was actually her first driving lesson !
The Golden Road devours tires! When the area was more heavily logged the trucks would pack down the shale, but now the edges will slice average tires. It's especially bad in places where they have recently graded the road, as it tends to expose more of the shale edges. Locals recommend 10 ply tires if attempting to drive on the Golden Road these days.
Hard to go wrong with the Golden Road, as seen in this video, but best off hiring a guide unless you know the backroads and have 10-ply tires! Another good option is Moose Alley (Rte. 3) in Pittsburg, NH.
In Maine by Moosehead- Kokadjo, Lily Bay Rd, Lazy Toms Bog, Baxter State Park, Moose River, The Forks, Rockwood, Moosehead Lake, Rangeley. In NH, Rt 16, 13 Mile Woods and Umbagog. Pittsburg NH is not a guarantee regardless of who says what. We only have 3k moose in NH. Maine has 70k. Pittsburg (and the infamous Moose Alley) is too populated now so the moose are very very scarce there.
I really enjoyed this, thank you!!! 🙏🏼 🫎

Greenville is my go to Vacation spot. I never tire of heading up there.
