How To Draw Fouls Like James Harden

  • James Harden's ability to draw fouls is a skill. He scores over a third of his points at the free throw line, and has set a number of records at the line. Any player can develop this skill, though, just like any other! Check out how above.

    Most people hate it, including me, but you can't argue that this isn't a skill. And Harden has perfected it. Led/been up there in the league in FTA for most of his career, and he's one of the most efficient scorers in league history by the numbers. It's awful to watch, but it's valuable and it leads to efficient scoring.
    And the way the league is trending towards analytics/efficiency, this is not going to die down anytime soon. You already see a lot more players using his rip through 5 feet behind the three-point line for 3 FTs.

    People will say this is cheap but I find it's a skill itself to be able to manipulate the rules in your favour. To be able to draw contact like he does and still have the body control to finish is a very difficult skill and I'm sure if everyone could do it they would because it's easy points and helps your team win... it's not Hardens fault he's taking advantage of a flawed rule set and I'm pretty they said the same think about dunking when it was banned

    FIBA interpretations (played pretty much anywhere outside the US) technically interpret hooking a defender's arms as shown in this video and offensive foul, as you are entering a legal defender's space and unfairly putting them at a disadvantage by creating contact. Most referees will be satisfied with a no-call, however, due to how much this also affects the shooter.

  • @jackkeenanx

  • @mortystation
    @mortystation 4 года назад +1

    Here in Europe, half of these faults won't be called, since the regulation is pretty clear about these situations. If the arms are opened and still before the shooting action, the fault will not be counted as a shooting fault, just a regular fault. The referees over here are a pretty concern when a player is looking for contenders arms to draw faults. The defender arms must hit the attacking player while shooting, not the contrary. I hope NBA will do something on this matter for the shake of this show.

    guys i have a question , im playing basketball in a low level and most of time defender hold his arm above ball while i was taking my steps and when i see their arm i hold the ball and swing my arms up to my shooting form and ofcourse my arms initates contact with their hands, the thing i am doing is true or i just letting them touch my arms and making the layup hard for me
