On this very rare occasion, Bhai sahib, I would have to disagree that Gurprasad is a new concept.
It has been going since Satyug. For want of a better phrase, I think that Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj, came and "Standardised" the Guru/shish framework. This is , however, only an opinion. Please forgive my ego and any mistakes.🙏🏽
