Floyd is big on sound-FX. These sound-FX, voices on sqwawk-boxes, feet running up and down hallways, alarm bells, cash registers, etc. were MADE for Atmos.
From about 1970 pink floyd really pushed sound set ups. They were one of the pioneers of surround sound(quadrophonic). Not bad for an album concieved and written over 50 years ago eh!!
I just recently got this disc as well. I was searching for some BD Audio discs and came across it. I don't have Atmos but it still sounded incredible! I agree, we need more music done this way. But doubt we will get much more. I think it is a very niche market. You look at the other audio formats out there that never caught on...SACD, DVD-Audio, HDCD, Dual-Disc. It is sad that the average consumer doesn't care about the quality and the idea of music in surround. When music is mixed in surround, it is incredible! My favorite 5.1 music disc would be the SACD of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. Recorded by Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and released by Telarc International. The track with the main overture with the cannons is crazy! You actually hear the cannons going off in all speakers at different times. It feels like you are in the middle of a battlefield! Telarc does not exist anymore. But they put out THE BEST quality cds out there. If you see any Telarc cds, grab them, you will be in for a treat! Do you have a SACD player or does your 4K player play them? If yes, search for the 1812, it is worth every penny. What's so cool about this release is the 5.1 and 2-channel stereo mixes are INCLUDED, along with the Atmos mix, on the same blu-ray disc; accessible from a menu screen, to compare!
Cool! As a follow-up, I'd love to see what she thinks of the album "Wish You Were Here" which was Pink Floyds next release. BUT if you do, I think it would be a far more emotional experience if she has just a basic understanding of what happened to Syd Barrett, after all, the album is all about him and what the music industry / life style did to him. So with that little bit of context I think it would make an awesome follow-up project❤
Ill bet that was a experience . Just moved my upfiring to front heights and the difference has blown me away . I did only try them upfiring for a couple of weeks but glad moved them. My mums goes to see Barry Manilow whrn hes touring
There are some good atmos music tracks. I recently got into Sony 360 Reality Audio, it's a competing format that the sound engineers and artists have to master using immersive audio. There are some like atmos that have been mastered in immersive so good, but there are some on both that are just ok. I use Tidal and it has both formate but it requires an avr that supports it, right now the Sony 7000 has it and Dennon is supposed to release an update for Sony 360RA on my denon 3800. I'm not a huge fan of michael jackson but the Sony 360RA tracks are amazing. I was just listening to some pink floyd in Sony 360RA and it was good but I'll check out dark side of the moon and compare between the two formats.
Thing with Atmos is you need more than 2 height speakers to get full Atmos effects but if you only have a small living space you can't do 4 or 6 height speakers so l am fine with just 5.1 speakers in my living room

Have two atmos center height speakers, make a difference. Have a small living room. It was a nice upgrade. Sure may 4 atmos speakers may be better. Not sure in my case having a very small living room.
@@GeorgeTheaterAtHome I think you disproved that its much more immersive with your latest videos! I dont find it to be with my 2 heights. Solid 5.1 with multi subs for the win I think. I believe using the DTS neural X upmixer gives similar results.
It's an OK album, it goes from surround sound audio ( no vocals) to basic immersive audio when the vocals start... 6 out of 10 for the albums sound. There are 5.1 albums that blow this album out of the water.

The remastered version I have is actually a Blu-ray, instead of a CD, which is kind of interesting. It has a menu and when it plays there is a static image of the prism and rainbow on the screen.
Sampling rate cant b same on streaming vs d actual bluray...atleast 10 db of noticable difference is there with notsomuch atmos quality feeling on streaming as compared to d physical disk itself

How is the remastered CD version any better than the streaming Dolby Atmos version on Apple Music? Both sampling and bit rates are about the same.
Excellent question. I haven’t done back-to-back testing to see if there is a noticeable difference. But it would be interesting to test it.
