  • This video is part of a playlist to support the Audible version of Deploying Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and Service v.9, which is available on Amazon and Audible.
In this video we walk through the example that we provided in the Audible book version, where there are three option sets on the Account entity. Two of the options sets are sub-sets of the Organization Type option set , which is either For Profit or Non-Profit. The sub-types are then revealed, depending on the choice of the Organization Type.
This kind of functionality was traditionally provided by JavaScript on the form, but now it can be handled just as well with a Business Rule. In the video, we also mention the best practice of adding additional actions to ensure that values are cleared, depending on choice, so that inaccurate and confusing data does linger in the your database, in the event that a user changes their minds while interacting with the Business Rule.
Ultimately, Business Rules for Microsoft Dynamics 365 can be quite helpful in improving the user experience for the application, and we encourage the use of them. They cannot replace JavaScript in all cases, but they certainly can for simple use cases like the one we describe in this video.
While the Audible version of the book is convenient, there are times when a picture is worth a thousand words, and so we have identified those instances, and referred listeners to this playlist.
Here are the versions of the book: (NOTE: as of August 18th, the Audible version is "still processing ... so please have patience ... thanks!)
