Don, you are my hero! I purchased the Hansshow 9" screen for my m3p and your video was the only one that properly pointed out the gray connector. the Chinglish instructions were so bad I couldn't make them out, but you pulled me over the finish line.
Great explanation! Been criticizing the absence of a instrument cluster in 3/Y ever since. I can't believe it is really necessary to install this yourself because the manufacturer just won't put instruments and CarPlay/Android Auto in the vehicle.
The lack of a dashboard was one of my biggest complaints with the non-S/X Teslas and this addresses it very well. I had written them off but this makes them slightly more appealing. Only slightly since I am pretty sure the dashboard will stop working after a software update at some point, but still.
Update : still love this screen best install I've done on my m3. Took my car to tesla service center and all the service reps were enthralled with it asking me all these questions. Get this thing it's great!
@@Donslife seriously? I wanted to add this so I could get audio to the speakers without having to use crappy Bluetooth. Why does no video about this go into detail about this. Almost bought it but I can just Bluetooth from my phone. What a joke.
Tesla model 3 and Y should have come with this as standard. I was real close to order myself a model 3 last summer but after I had test drive in it I found it annoying not to have something in front of me showing the speed and some simple info. Great video 👍
A test drive is probably not long enough because you get used to no screen in front of you real fast, like within a week of owning. I like this product though.

OneCarStereo was cool about sending me the correct cable, but they should make it more clear on their site and instructions, as the connectors ARE different. I like this but there are a number of HUD solutions out there which I think make more sense on the Model 3. Surprised it isn’t a factory option - it fits with the Tesla minamalistic aesthetic.
The product I bought was different, but the instalation was exactly the same. I had a problem after finished the instalation. I would have liked to hear if that affected the ability for the fans to blow on the driver, and how much. Also, using apple car play, does the audio still play through the tesla audio system? Id hope its not through the small speaker on that unit.
Apple CarPlay can play through the Tesla’s speaker system via Bluetooth or the tiny built in speaker. Sorry about the fan. Since the weather was on the cooler side but not freezing, there was no thought to test it during the video recording.

Mini has a center mounted analogue speedometer actually, which is hard to read in your field of view compared to a big digital speedometer. There is absolutely no need for a display behind the steering wheel since the center mounted one works just aswell. The only people complaining about it are ones that never drove a tesla to begin with or drove 30 years with the same interior style and have a hard time to adjust to something new. Absolutely no difference between looking down at a analogue cluster or slightly to the right at a big digital speedometer, which can easiely be read in your field of view anyway.

Never considered a Tesla before as the interior is soooo bland. Adding this unit makes the world of difference. I would now genuinely consider buying Tesla for the first time. Great job.
The website doesn't seem to state clearly how the Bluetooth audio works with the car. Supporting 2 bluetooth devices at once generally doesn't work well. Is there a way to connect the audio of the device to the Car? When running wireless Android Auto requires bluetooth to be connected for phone calls and such.
Got one, and recently it broke with a software update. It now briefly powers on and shows the car logo, then powers off. It looks like the software interface with the car changed. Any idea on how to fix this, like update this thing or something?
Not really, the two wires that connect to the screen have quick connects to the harness that you plug in underneath the glove box. Also the screen comes with a step by step installation sheet.
Question. When you were flipping through the screen; Changing the car showing lights on section then doors being opened, tire guage pesssire etc... Can you toggle from steering wheel? Or do you have to use the screen? I don't want to be reaching for the screen while driving. Thank you.
Hi @donslife. When you say “turn the car off,” did you mean you disconnected the battery? Also, anyone hooked up the harness for Tesla Model 3/Y Performance? Looks like a battery hookup as well.
Turn off the car (which can be done) maybe not necessary but just a good habit when unplugging systems. The reason to disconnect the batteries would be if you took to long to plug in the new harness. Disconnecting the batteries for a bit will reset everything but you’ll have to start again with the OEM harness plugged in
Would this invalidate or affect the factory warranty? Could it be potentially a bone of contention with Tesla service if you have this and you have a weird software issue? How about when OTA updates come and there may be a compatibility issue with the latest software update?

@@jsnagra1able because these low volume cars are much older designs and much more expensive. Of course a "luxury" vehicle (if you can even call it that) has a more expensive interior. Other than that they want their flashy ludicrous mode animations to play to keep the buyers happy. The decision to remove them on the M3 and MY was not only a design decision but also a cost decision as well after all. Besides, the reason they went with the controversial yoke steering wheel on these is because a regular one could block the view of the instrument cluster.

Works for me. Just tested it again : one-car-stereo.myshopify.com/products/tesla-3-y-instrument-display
Does this installation void the warranty?
With this you don't feel the air in your face, they have to build it to go above air vents
It doesn’t really block the vent, if the air is set to come out right where the screen is sitting it just flows over the top.
@@Donslife true . U just adjust the air to flow all the way up and it’ll hit your face
Was this with the new AMD processor
Does that nullify warranty?
Not if installed properly
How do you play the audio on the tesla cars speakers not on this device speakers
Either is possible
Epic upgrade to make your tesla a normally functioning auto - LOL 😆
The screen itself is better than other, but the interface isn't that good. It could make better use of the space. It should work more like the model S front screen, with navigation too.
-24c..... Yikes! Too cold for me. The way it is positioned behind the wheel, do you find it easy to use the touchscreen while driving. I know you said that this is your neighbor's car.
He said it is pretty easy once you get used to it. Same goes for the steering wheel controls
Cool aftermarket product, but it’s ridiculous that Tesla didn’t put a gauge cluster behind the steering wheel in the first place.
because it is just not needed. The speedometer is well inside your field of view and there is virtually no difference if you look down on the speedometer or to the right at the top left corner. If anything there is no steering wheel in the way.
@@BizzMRK so why does Tesla have a steering wheel gauge cluster for its model X and S, but not for the 3 and Y?
@@jsnagra1able because these low volume cars are much older designs and much more expensive. Of course a "luxury" vehicle (if you can even call it that) has a more expensive interior. Other than that they want their flashy ludicrous mode animations to play to keep the buyers happy. The decision to remove them on the M3 and MY was not only a design decision but also a cost decision as well after all. Besides, the reason they went with the controversial yoke steering wheel on these is because a regular one could block the view of the instrument cluster.
@@BizzMRK thank you for acknowledging that it’s a cost cutting measure, that’s exact what I was getting at. A poor cost cutting decision in my opinion.
Thank you
Any worries with future tesla software release compatibility? Looks great! Would love to see extra stats too that isn't on the tesla gui.
Updates can be performed via the USB-C connection on the side.
Will your audio still go to the vehicle’s stereo system when operating CarPlay through this device? Hearing mixed feedback.
Yes you have to pair it with the car’s Bluetooth
This is great! Will it void the Tesla warranty in any way?
In Canada and the US there are laws to protect you. The manufacturer has to prove the aftermarket part caused your issue
@@Donslife Excellent point !
Where is the future support for firmware update? Is there a link for that? My concern is that AA and carplay newer version need new firmware to support
The USB C port on the right side is for firmware updates
Thanks for your video. If I want the blind spot camera, do I have to buy the 10.25 android display? Do I need a license plate frame to mount the camera?
Wireless Android Auto!!! Not sure if this was a firmware update, but I only got mine a couple weeks ago: was shocked to find out both our Android phones, once Bluetooth'd to the display, Android Auto just fired up and showed on the screen. This is a big deal that should also be on the website lol
Cool. I wasn’t able to test Wireless Android Auto due to not having a compatible Phone handy
