The fact that a NURSE shook a newborn, especially so violently that she broke ribs and gave her permanent brain damage is absolutely horrifying, extremely abusive and can even be deadly. I’m so glad that Sarah has such a great dad and a great support system but it’s messed up that this happened and how it happened. Never shake a baby, as a nurse especially you should know that. Sarah is a beautiful kid with a great future, especially with this school in place. I’m glad she’s living doing so well!
I know a family where the father shook his newborn daughter multiple times. She has severe disabilities as a result and nearly died. His family was loaded and pretended he had a "severe intellectual disability" for the court (a guy who drives, lives independently and works a normal job- and we knew him). He got off with absolutely no punishment. Welcome to the legal system! You can nearly murder a child and face zero punishment!

It's horrible but it happens. My son has CP because he was born at a teaching hospital and rather than the doctor intibating him when he wasn't breathing , he had a student try for over 2 mins!!! (He was born 6 weeks early and needed O2) Those precious mins he went unnecessarily without oxygen is what caused brain damage. He is now 22, in a wheelchair and has limited speech and intellectual disabilities.
This is totally amazing. As a MOM of a 24 yr old young man with a TBI since 2009 I know the importance of this. Zach was in college and now can not walk, talk or eat, but understands all going on around him. He wants to continue with life, however the intense therapy has stopped. He gets some but not enough. Way to go DAD on your efforts to continue fighting.
What an awesome place, a horrific story for his family, but Patrick is doing a remarkable thing for his daughter and all the other children that have the same issues, very commendable.

Sarah is a strong little girl and she has the most wonderful advocate any kid could have a caring dad with the Will to change the system . I was born with Ceriblepalsy while I dont have the same level of disability that Sarah has back then there was hardly any kind of Programs for children like me at the time and I know it would have been virtually none existent for Sarah Good Job for seeing a need and meeting that need . And I hope the nurse that did this to Sarah is never placed around children again and never sees the light of day out side of a prison cell
wow, $135K a year means even a Million $ lawsuit win won't really last long for these kids. A parent would need to win 10-20 Million to really take care of these kids until death. It is so sad her injury could have been prevented and that a NURSE did it. So much praise for this dad who wanted to do the best for his girl, and help others along the way.
I was on an IEP and was around many children with brain injuries and focused my senior year of high school working with them for a credit in high school this humbled me so much and my main student I had surpassed their goals and they were worried that they may have to stay back in the program one more year. After we were done that wasn’t necessary 😊😌👍💜🤓
There are some outstanding people in the world. To just give up everything you know to go into a totally different area, even for your precious child, is still an amazingly big step and he turned it into something brilliant!

The only complaint that I have is the cost of tuition. Children with disabilities don’t come from just rich families, but poor families as well. He should lower it so that everyone can have access to the amazing education here
I am on the Autism Spectrum, and have thought about possibly starting a school for children with Autism OR other challenges (such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, TBI, Dyslexia, Intellectual Disability, etc.).
Why would you shake a baby like that? You're not allowing this child to grow, or help herself You're keeping her from doing what she can for herself. Thank God for her father allowing her to do what she wants and to live her life as best as she can.
We need to change. End of. Why does the west accept children with disabilities missing education, but not Able kids missing education? Can we start making society more accessible for wheelchair use one day soon? I understand health benefits, but the narrative of walking being the pinnacle of being a human also needs to change. Ableism needs to change. The one form of discrimination that is still yet to reveive a mainstream spotlight and backlash. I hope the nurse was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I know that to pay all these people and for equipment is a lot but this price doesn't help a lot of people who are struggling financially. It's just painful to feel like your kid might get better with this school but you can't afford it.

Legally, if you have a SPED child whose needs are unable to be met in public school, you can send them to a private school that can provide for their needs. But, because every child is entitled to a public school education, public schools are required to foot the bill for that private school. My assumption is that they "bill" the families and tell them that they have been given a zero interest loan (that they are not expected to pay) until the public school reimbursements them for tuition. No burden on the family and the child receives the care they deserve.
The nanny/nurse's name is Noella Allick. She was sentenced to ten years in prison, but that was for attacks on TWO babies, not just the attacks on Sarah.

I understand that people are commenting on what the point is, but at the same time, some people didn't think Helen Keller had anything to learn or think about either, and she accomplished so much in her lifetime. As a parent who lost a brain-injured baby, it's wonderful to see a place that can give the parents an outlet for their child. It doesn't matter if they don't write the next American novel; it matters that for a part of their day, parent and child, they get to experience something other than sadness, regret, anger, etc.
I like the idea of setting the standard in your state so that neighboring states may follow your leadership to make a difference in the lives of the brain injured. You are a great inspiration to so many people. I spend a great deal of time educating the public on vaccine injured children and adults. No matter what the cause children need help and assistance moving forward. Great work you are doing! :)
This happens to my friends sister. She wasn't shaken but the hospital was negligent and she got an infection shortly after birth. She's incredibly smart, but her mother had to quite her job judt to take care of her. I'm glad this school exsists.

My daughter has a brain injury, we live in Orange County NY. I have to homeschool my child because there is nothing around here for children with brain injuries. I hope to be able to do this one day for other children with brain damage. We need this for children, they need all the help in the world. My daughter also has brain damage due to medical malpractice.
Sara Jane was violently shaken and possibly bashed against something by her baby sitter. Babies are fragile and the brain in people of all ages is very soft.
Why tho? Are we supposed to lock these children at home, in the basement? Shoot them? Of course they’re not going to take SATs or other exams but they’re still entitled to education 🙃
