That breakdown is always my favorite part of this song to play. Makes the people who aren't looking directly at me think I'm that good at double bass. Props to Mike for killing with a single kick.

What do you mean slept on? He won the AP award amongst drummers that are ten times better than him as far as skill goes. He's in a band that's extremely popular and is killing it right now so I wouldn't really say he's slept on. I say it's the complete opposite.

Texas is forever really shows his skill with a single pedal.

I play drums and usually im really really (but seriously really) energetic at It, and once i finish of playing a few songs my arms ache like hell now i can't even imagine how much mike's arms aches at the end of every preformance (i know he's already used to it but damn he's a beast with his drums and i love It lol)

Def give it a try! I started on drums, listened to ptv, looked into mike and just started learning his drum parts, oh yeah, drum lessons arent an essential just gotta know how to count tim, im trying out guitar soon

@O Key Yeah, the whole band in general is not metal. But the drumming has some metal qualities. You can put it in a metal song and it will blend in pretty well.

Does anyone know how he got his snare to sound like that? I want mine to sound like his
Get a thick snare drumhead, a remo emperor x or a evans heavyweight. Tune the buttom head tight and the tophead pretty tight too, for that crack. You hear al lot of snares, his snare are pretty tight too but not choked. I bought myself some puresound snarewires, they give you so much more depth than stockwires.

I came here to watch this after seeing a comment on twitter. The girl said she loved Pierce the veil but hated Mike because he couldn't fix his issues. This, of course made me mad because I still think Mike is awesome. I know people are allowed to have their opinions but they should atleast keep them to yourself. Mike is a person with emotions and feelings. Just because you don't like him doesn't mean everyone else hates him. What angered me more was no one stood up for Mike instead of the four people who liked it they chose to let the person say that about Mike. Shure things happened but Mike is cool. He is and will always be one of my favorite drummers.

It's all sixteenth note based, so slow the song down and listen carefully to each voice on the kit. Write it out if it makes it easier. Be sure to account for each sixteenth note.

Yo only been playing drums for a few months so sorry for the noob question, but he has two floor toms, are they different sizes or the same? why does he have this?
+WhoNeedsLuck The second one is usually bigger but i don't know about his setup. I guess he needs them both for fills and some other advanced drumming stuff :)
they are most likely different size. why two floor toms insted of rack toms? for me I would have two foor toms and one rack tom just purely to have the ride closer and more comfortable, but he might just find it more comfortable and ergonomic to have extra floors instead of a rack.
i was wondering if it made up for the fact he uses a single pedal, but yeah thanks for the response, i understand more now
he has two floor toms so he has more room up front. the sizes of the toms are as follows:
rack: 13x8
floor 1: 16x16
floor 2: 18x16
also, some people are just more comfortable like that.

For some drummers, they take their foot COMPLETELY off the pedal instead of just lifting it up, more comfortable for them, as for me not so much because I like to adjust how open my hi-hat is or how tightly closed it is with my foot. Every drummer plays differently

You guys should check out another nasty single kick player, one of my drum inspirations, Paul Koehler of Silverstein! Mike is nasty. The only complaint of this video is his Remo tom heads sound like ass. Needs to join Evans like now if he is serious about solid tonality in toms. Just saying ;)

This drum mix makes it sound like he's barely using any energy playing, yet visually it's very evident that he's using every ounce of power he's got. Such a shame.
PTV may be mediocre in my opinion, but Mike is hands down the best member in the band and an amazing drummer.
