    In fact, I think that it's much alive and the giga coaster could really become the park's next roller coaster.
    What do you think? Could Knott's Berry Farm still build the Giga?

      You have a point but, unless you’re building a theme park in the middle of nowhere, there’s going to be a noise complaint. Also, there could be people who lived in Anaheim before the parks became popular or are keeping their homes for the resale value.

      It really depends on the sound and sight lines. A park may exist in an area but that doesn't mean the park should have carte blanche to emit any decibel of sound or build a structure of any height just because people who live there knew there was a theme park. The same goes for any building structure.
      Zoning laws aren't new. And City councils need to balance the fact that private companies should have some rights but communities belong to the people who live in them and those people ought to have a say on the zoning laws, not just the corporations that will make money in those communities. If the people of Buena Park agree that a giga would be an eye sore or that it violated a sound ordinance in a way that no attraction the park has to this point, then that is a fair complaint.
      I'm not saying these things are easy. I'm just saying that it's overly simplistic to say that living near a theme park means you've given implied consent for the park to do whatever it wants with the local sight lines or sound emissions.

      @@gorbshal2598 The GP is going to prefer floater airtime from a B&M hyper over ejector airtime from a giga. Knott's can't replicate F&F Hollywood Drift, but in the long term, they could replace Xcelerator with a *Vekoma multi-launch* a bit smaller than Abyssus (which would have a few ejector pops). In the short term, replacing Montezooma with a *Zamperla Double Heart* is probably good enough. Besides, the bar to beat in the area is pretty low. As long as Knott's hyper is more thrilling than *Goliath and Incredicoaster* it'll work there.

      They were. But they were old, dating back to 2013. Many in knotts management confirmed this.
      After they passed up on Leviathan, and chose to go the direction of improving the parks aging Infrastructure and classic attractions and areas for the next 15 years (ghost town & Mrs knott's chicken diner restaurant to name a few), the plans sat around, and someone stumbled upon them and shared it.
      What was confirmed was that they can do a ride of the scale of a giga-coaster, but ultimately decided to improve the park itself beforehand, in order to accomodatthe would be large influx of guest that would descend upon the park.
      As the park is now, it can barely support the current large crowds it gets on a weekly basis., parking is a HUGE problem.
      If you build a structure somewhere it will cost 40-60 million. Or spend that money to rebuild your infrastructure, THEN at a later date,build the structure once you've addressed other pressing maintenance and operational issues 1st.
      Ive been reassured multiple times by multiple people that they do want to build a large iconic ride, but need to the infrastructure and lagging maintenance issues and needs addressed firstly.
      Their yearly budget only allows for soo much to happen at once, which is why if you look back to what the park has done over the past 11 years, it's been strategic and systematic updates and refurbs, slow, But steady.

    GhostRider is really not high capacity based on how it operates. They run two trains. The majority of the time the second train is on the break run before the one in the station is sent out. It is a very slow process and a very long slow moving line. I can give you Silver Bullet but not GhostRider.
    The LA market should be enough to get Knott's and SFMM something good. The market is more year-round and so large that the new company should pump money into these 2 parks. The Olympics are nice and all but I think the Metro area and climate are the two driving factors.

    • @matty6878

      someone did a video on GR operation time - one of the worst there is. and i could have sworn GR had three trains early on so theoretically it could help with boarding time but maybe not enough to be worth the trouble.
      even with a full staff there it just takes so long for people to get seated. doesn't help that its just a long ride period.
      im really curious how ride ops handles the fast lane queue boarding cuz i've seen multiple times that they they would get two boarding one after another. i get they get "priority" but i think the ride suffers as a result.
      its just a curse of being a damn good ride.

    On paper, Knott's has the attendance figures to justify a giga. But the park's popularity doesn't come from big thrills - it's a well-themed, cheaper alternative to Disneyland. Hangtime could have been much more intense, with enough height to hit 65 mph. But *two whole train lengths* of the drop was removed for a holding brake. I think Cedar Fair's fine with keeping Xcelerator around for several more years as Knott's most intense coaster. They don't need anything more thrilling, and it'll be helpful to compete with Universal until the Hollywood Drift hype settles down a bit.
    But now they have to re-evaluate what to do with Montezooma, so a major B&M project is off the table for a while. I still expect them to replace it with a Zamperla Double Heart in the near term - hopefully the 70-meter version. But if there's one thing Knott's does NOT need, it's a *95 mph ejector airtime* machine like Fury 325. Any B&M they pick will emphasize *family-friendly floater* airtime, and a (mini) hyper can do that just as well as a giga, if not better.

    • @tahjo7
      @tahjo7 6 месяцев назад

      I'm a 5 year Annual pass holder at Knotts. I have 2 boys. The past 3 years were ROUGH to say the least. The only thing that kept me coming back was my love for the park and its RICH history.
      Xcelerator was down, Monte was closed, pony express is too short, wait times are atrocious....it was rough.
      They haven't had a large scale ride since 2004's Silver Bullet, that was 20 years ago in December.
      I don't count 2018's Hangtime although it a fun ride, and a great supporting ride, unfortunately that's how it comes across.
      I heard they added a brake hold in order to give it an element of a Dive coaster, and it's another spec that can marketed as California didn't have a DIVE at the time ("the ONLY dive coaster in California!!).
      The only ride that towed the line since it's inception has been Silver Bullet. Best return on investment in knott's history. Reliable, family friendly, HIGHLY re-rideable like most mild B&M's, and high capacity, which knott's sorely needs.
      In terms of hyper vs giga, they're landlocked, and choices for coasters have to be carefully and logically decided upon.
      With being landlocked, you only get one shot at an iconic coaster that is going to be the face of the park for 20+ years, you want to get the most for your money and limited land.
      I've spoken to Knotts management numerous times over the years, and the growing constant feeling is frustration, lack of being on the same page, not maximizing potential, and also wanting to address it's immediate needs first and foremost. Which is why in 2008-09, knott's passed on Leviathan which then went to Canada's Wonderland. Knott's wanted to focus on fixing it's aging classic rides/chicken diner restaurant & aging infrastructure.
      Once all those issues are addressed, slowly, year over year as it has been since 2012, they hope to reach a point when the park will be ready to handle and accept the next large investment project.
      I'd choose a Giga, specifically, this one with some minor adjustments.
      The ONLY other "small park" that had a larger scale attraction in it, and it's been what the park is known for since the early 2000's is at Six Flags New England -Superman, the little brother version of Millennium Force.
      A Giga at Knotts would be the perfect fit. Fury and Millennium Force, collectively has been voted best Steel coaster repeatedly since 2001, Fury just got again last year even after it's crack incident.
      They are family friendly rides that appeals to the 9-50 year old age ranges.
      I rhode Fury 30+ times back in August after it reopened due to the "crack" incident. Hot day, fury was running at 102mph that day per the ride ops, it was the best most memorable day I've ever had as a coaster enthusiast. Yes I had a Fastlane.
      I saw 9 year Olds 12, 16, 20, hell I even saw grand pa's and grandma's riding and enjoying themselves. They didn't think they would enjoy the ride because it looks intimidating, but like Silver Bullet it's fast and floaty with a few G's being pulled but in an enoyable way at the right time.
      As an adult, i'am missing just one more ride, preferably one that is more than 40 seconds, the line moves at an acceptable pace, and a ride that makes me want to ride again, but it's mini coaster set, merch, and keep renewing my annual pass.
      If you've Rhode Fury before, I'm sure you'd agree with me.
      I saw and understood why these rides and not a Hyper or Mini Hyper had won the award soo frequently.
      If I'm knott's, I'm building what no one else has, I want my lineup and offerings to be unique, and fortunately, a giga-coaster does that, especially for the state of Californian, or anything WEST of Chicago, the west coast needs this. It doesn't take away from anything ekse about the park or it's offerings, it strengthens it and solidifies it as a unique, most visit destination.
      Not an easy feat for a small, landlocked park.
      If Knott's got a "BIG" hyper aka Orion lol, then even that would be acceptable, as long as we get that sense of speed from the 1st half with airtime at the end.
      Its the same recipe that's gotten Fury and Millennium Force voted the best for more than 20 years now.
      They're doing something right.

    • @tahjo7
      @tahjo7 6 месяцев назад +1

      And thanks for reading, lol, I know it was alot. But that's because your comment was soo inspirational.
      Knott's was always known for it innovation. Bringing new experiences within its budget to it's park. Everything it's had since the log ride, has been either a 1st, or 1st for California.
      Log ride, 1st in Cali.
      Mine ride, 1st in California
      Flywheel launch
      Parachute drop
      1st theme park
      Pony Express 1st motor bike
      Sierra Sidewinder 1st spinner
      Xcelerator 1st hydraulic launch
      You get the point.... Innovation is a part of knott's roots and history, giving people a different experience is how you stand out.
      Offering value is one way of attracting folks, you're right, giving them a unique experience is just another offering.
      As a business if you can do both, that sounds like a success to me.
      You're maximizing your potential & profits.
      Hyper or giga, the next addition will be the icing on the cake for this overall, best packaged "Small Park".
      They've had 20 years to prepare with long term planning, let's hope they don't fudge this up.

    • @brianfoss571
      @brianfoss571 6 месяцев назад +1

      @tahjo7 Those are all fair points - Knott's needs a longer standout coaster than Xcelerator. The problem with a giga is it makes everything else in the park look TINY. And that's very bad when you're very restricted on new additions. The park itself only covers 57 acres - it's by far the smallest by area of Cedar Fair parks. (On the Six Flags side, Frontier City is slightly smaller at 55 acres). Knott's management probably considers themselves lucky to have a coaster over 200 feet tall at all. The only (smaller) major theme park with a hyper that comes to mind is Blackpool Pleasure Beach at 42 acres. A mid-sized hyper will give Knott's a re-rideable marquee coaster with high capacity. It's probably not their immediate priority, though.

    • @tahjo7
      @tahjo7 6 месяцев назад

      @@brianfoss571 I've spoken to multiple managers and it's the same, they want to build a larger coaster but they want to address the parks infrastructure (like I previously mentioned).
      There's an understanding that it keeps being pushed back, or put on hold, especially with these reliability issues with the current lineup, and the unfortunate mishap with Monte.
      Supreme scream is 310ft tall, there isn't a height ceiling, just as long as the homes are at a certain distance, they have specifics already.
      Using Google maps, the closets homes to Supreme Scream is roughly over 1000 feet away,
      Xcelerator at 205ft is over 500ft from its closest homes.
      Where the lift hill.and drop of the Giga is, applying the same logic and rules, of height vs distance, it would be JUST fine.
      Xcelerator was quickly built using the old wind jammer permit which was good up to 210ft tall, Knotts wanted something quick and high thrills in that spot, and didn't want to wait or spend money for another study or environmental impact report. So they weren't "lucky to have a 200ft tall coaster it was purpose built for the space.
      Silverbullet doesn't need a large lift,nor does hangtime, supreme scream needed the height and it got it. So I'm sure the city is willing to work with them.
      As for other coasters looking small, it's a consequence of providing their consumer with options, I'm sure it wouldn't be a worry.
      Remember they also added the 306ft tall Windseeker nex to Jaguar? That's the north end of the park, 1000ft away from nearby homes, they can build BIG if and when needed. They just need the property placement.
      All I'm saying is , if they want to, they can, folks assume that they can't and forget that they had 2 300ft tall rides already, they can, an the city has supported it 3 times already.
      They just need to get the park up to speed to handle it.
      They were gonna build Leviathan, that would've happened, they had the option to do it. So something large will eventually get built.
      We'll just have to wait and see.... 🤞

    As much as I would LOVE a giga at Knott's, this is more of a "family park". It is more in competition with Disney than SFMM.

    • @zacg_
      @zacg_ 6 месяцев назад

      It's sort of between the two. Yes, it has near Disney theming in some areas and has a lot of family attractions. But GhostRider, Silver Bullet, Xcelerator, HangTime and Supreme Scream are definitely more for traditional thrill seekers who enjoy SFMM and not anything similar to the attractions at Disney.
      A giga coaster would still seem a bit out of place (only because of the park's physical size) and its immediate proximity to the neighboring houses. But it could still work. I think the main thing to make a giga work at Knotts would be to keep the lift hill and most of the layout near the center of the park to avoid ruining sight lines or violating sound ordinances for the neighbors. That would be pretty tough but I think the city would be more willing to approve it if they built it that way.

    "Will we ever see a giga roller coaster dominate the skyline of Knott's Berry Farm?"
    No, there are too many strikes against it. You're reading way too much into these statements and keep pushing this ridiculous concept that has almost no chance of happening just to get more views, and it's starting to become irritating rather than interesting. For the same budget as Gold Rush, Knott's could build a Ghost Town expansion with a dark ride, family thrill coaster (think Copperhead Strike or similar), and a couple flat rides, and that would do far more for the place than one monster coaster as it isn't really a place that attracts hardcore thrillseekers. Especially with the merger, I suspect any investment in record breaking thrill rides will likely go to SFMM as that park is known for those, while Knott's is much more of an all audiences park aimed at families (there's a reason Jaguar and Pony Express are #2 and #3 in terms of popularity at the park).

    • @tahjo7
      @tahjo7 6 месяцев назад

      Interestingly enough, Knotts needs a reliable family friendly coaster, with mild thrills, great capacity, and is extremely reliable, re-rideable, markets itself.
      This coaster does all of those things. It's counterpart at Carowinds, Fury 325, has been voted best Steel coaster 7x since it opened in 2015. And before that Millennium force won best coaster at Cedar Point for almost 10 years.
      This coaster would be bultl by B&M, the same manufacturers of Silver Bullet, the best return on Investment, best capacity, and most reliable coaster the park has ever had.
      I flew to Carowinds this past August and Rhode Fury 325 30+ times, I never got a headache, never needed a break, I saw 8-10 years olds and their grandparents thoroughly enjoying the ride, it's the perfect ride for that age group when they graduate from small coasters, and gentle and enjoyable enough for adults in not making them sick.
      I truly encourage you to experience the ride if you have the means to.

    • @ajhummel9187
      @ajhummel9187 6 месяцев назад

      @@tahjo7 I have visited every Cedar Fair property at least once and have ridden every major coaster in the chain. While I agree with you that Fury 325 is a fantastic coaster (it's in my top 20 out of over 700 coasters ridden, favorite B&M, and favorite non-RMC in the chain), the terms mild thrills and family friendly are not ones I would apply to such an attraction. Knott's Berry Farm attracts a lot of Disney overflow, so any big coaster the park gets needs to be something that's not excessively extreme for that audience. GhostRider is a great example of hitting that mark just right, while rides like HangTime and Xcelerator are seen as too much for many park visitors (while Jaguar, Pony Express, and Sierra Sidewinder are more popular than they'd likely be at another Cedar Fair park). Even if the ride weren't as intense as it looked, the sight of a 300+ ft. coaster would scare away a decent number of visitors who simply aren't fans of that sort of attraction. If the park wanted a hyper coaster, I could see something similar in size to Mako working very well at Knott's (which would still check the boxes of great capacity, extremely reliable, and re-rideable), but feel anything larger wouldn't be a great fit for the park's clientele.
