The clips go around bobbins to hold the threads so they are not unraveling.

I recently visited their factory store after learning they were an hour away in Archdale, NC!! Loved the store and plan to go back. Had no idea they had a fabric box too.

I love Pineapple Fabrics. I don't have a subscription right now, but I've bought several bundles from them, and they are everything you've described. If you order a bundle, you get to choose a pattern to go with it, and of course they have tons of fabric by the yard. Their customer service is great, too.
