"you don't grow up in Latin America and expect things be given to you" THAT'S SO TRUE!

The most annoying misconception is that they think we are all one type of skin colour, but no, there are actually very dark skinned people, medium deep, light skin and very pale people and it also depends in the country or the region you are in. Latin america is beautifully diversed 😘
but if you look at the telnovas coming from latin america 99% of people look closely like the average italian. you can't blame folk for being ignorant when you sell whiteness as the default local product.
Yeah because caucasian is what a human should look like if we're being honest with ourselves. lol
Thank you🙏 for bringing that up. Our diversity has to do with the mestizaje, mixture of ethnicities, in Latin America. We are so mixed that skin color often varies within a family.

No. The whole thing is a misnomer.
Latinos are Italians, spaniards, Portuguese etc.
Consider this, calling a Castilian or Portuguese speaking, native or afro descendant living in 'latin' America a 'Latino/a' because they speak a Latin-based language, would be akin to calling an Australian aborigine or a New Zealand Maori a Germanic, Germano something or other because they speak a Germanic based langugage (English) or an Anglo something or other because they speak English.
It was actually a friend of mine who is 'latino' (but no longer calls himself that) told me that only people who do not know their history or identity would call themselves 'latino'.
Spanish IS NOT the only language spoken in Latin America. Obrigada, de nada!
We got the native languages, like the Tupi languages
@@shaide5483 if your mother tongue is a Native American language doesn't make you Latino. If you have the chance and speak with a member of an Amerindian tribe, whose first language and culture are based on his/her Amerindian identity surely they will tell you they are not Latino. Not to throw shade but the brazilian education system is not that great, that's why you probably heard that
@@joaocoimbra1846 Sure, but I'd expect these mistakes from people living in here not the ones who can travel abroad. Since who can do that worked hard to get a scholarship or could afford higher education. You just met someone ignorant.
Sure, but that's not even 20% of the population. In terms of the education system in terms on english, my brazilian friends told me that they only teach it to the verb "to be". So that's probably what you learn in the 3rd grade of European countries (using Europe as a example because I'm living there)
@@joaocoimbra1846 what mentioned was not an excuse. Education is pretty shitty over here. Less than 10% can afford private education, which usually is the best over here. English in most schools is not that good 'cause it's only theory; we don't talk or practice (I took an english course elsewhere). Many students take it for granted, only carrying about their grades; they try to memorize all and end up forgetting it, and many parents don't have international perspective, their world is where they live.
It's hard to talk about our failing education. It's like a food web, each problem creates another that feedback the whole system.

Definitely the lazy stereotype is the one that bothers me the most. I know people who've had 3 jobs to be able to pay for university. We're working around the clock.
When we are abroad we are VERY HARD WORKERS, the reason why we left in the first place is to bring improvements to our lives and to our loved ones's, and you can only do that by moonlighting. Maybe because our culture until relatively recent times had an institution out of the "siesta", and we are warm, hospitable people who take their time in several things, for instance while talking to you will not be impolite because we are in a hurry, we will respect you and thus it may look we have nothing else to do.
I'm Guatemalan and grew up in a Spanish speaking household but moved to Canada at a young age and have definitely experienced these stereotypes. He doesn't do the things a lot of Mexicans do (here in the US), he doesn't like rodeos, coleaderos ( not sure if you know what that is), doesn't drink (a lot) doesn't like to watch or play soccer, etc, etc. But at the same time, he doesn't do things that white people do. He says he has no identity. oh ! and he hates conflict & gossip.
Same here!

The most annoying stereotype is if you're Hispanic you must be Mexican . . . . I mean I am but still you didn't know that 😂
I think it's because Mexico is on the border with US. Mexico gets more attention due to that, that's probably why the associate Hispanics with Mexicans.
The most annoying stereotypes that I always get are that people always question my nationality, they never believe I'm Dominican cause of my pale skin and when I speak Spanish they'll assume I'm Mexican like if Mexico is the only country in the world that speaks Spanish. I'll be like dude of course you don't believe I'm Dominican and that's cause probably you've only been to Punta Cana, Santo Domingo or in the seaside, but have you been to the north side? Have you been to Santiago? You are definitely going to find pale skin people with blue eyes and blonde hair, plus you gotta get a book and start studying some geography and history about countries throughout Latinamerica so people can stop thinking you are dumb. Jeez!
Angine Haché Same 🤦🏻♀️
Así mismo!!!!
Same happens to me. I'm Puerto Rican with tan skin and light brown eyes and unfortunately an accent. People on the island ALWAYS assume I'm Dominican because of my tan skin and the way I speak as if all Puerto Ricans are light skinned and if all Dominicans are dark, it's ridiculous! I've gotten my fair share of racist comments from stupid people here. I've been even called "negra sucia" and been told to go back to the republic because I am not wanted here. My family is one of the oldest families in the town I live in, we can be traced back over 400 years. I've had to remind people many times that, A) Tainos were not white, ( Census had my family as Mestizos) and B) Many white people live in RD. My husband's family are Dominicans and they are white! Also, many are too stupid to notice that my accent is because English is my dominant language, even though I am completely fluent in Spanish. When I was in the states people didn't believe I was Puerto Rican because I didn't look like JLO! 🤣 Many thought I was Mexican, I've been called a liar many times when I tell them I'm from PR. Mind you these comments are from other Latinos!
Hernán Cortés Great grandson[] I have literally seen 💯 Dominicans with blond hair and blue eyes.
Literally its like that, a lot of people think im arab... but im Dominican indeed so am like... ok 😂

A América portuguesa é latina tanto quanto a espanhola. Somos herdeiros de dois gloriosos povos ibéricos, que são tão romanos quanto a língua latina que os precedem.
The most annoying thing I hear from Argentina is that the majority of them are Spanish descent but that’s false. 63% of Argentineans are Italian descent. I’m Colombian Venezuelan and Puerto Rican but for all sakes most of us are Spanish descent or European African and indigenous
That depends on the region.
Yeah there are a lot of Italians German and other European descended people in argentina.
Argentina and uruguay are only white majority in Latin America
Argentinians are most Mestizo, mixed from natives, Italians and Spanish people. They are not white to me.
Esteban A. Argentinians from the north tend to be mestizo.
Brazil is a "Latin" country, it is located in South America which is a part of Latin America. Brazilians may not be Hispanic but they are very much Latinx.
Guyana and Suriname are in South America and they are not Latin countries. I agree with you that Brazil is, though
Hops!Dana don’t destroy the Portuguese language !!!!
Brazil belongs to the Portuguese America. NOT LATIN AMERICA
I consider Brazil, Guyana and Suriname Latinos. I also separate the word "Latino" , "Latin" , and "Hispanic".
It's called Latin America because the countries that colonized it spoke Latin at one point. Get your facts right

Same because I’m white Puerto Rican but I got few area got tan and my Canadians Greeks, Americans friends tells me I’m not white because Hispanic can’t be white although the majority of my families are White and I’m glad his Greek sister can acknowledge I’m white but the rest are very denial, it’s annoying although my Canadian Greek friends look more Turkish/Lebanese than Greek but I’ll keep it quiet 😂😂
Famous Dominican merengue singer Juan Luis Guerra has a light complexion, and iconic movie and TV star from “yesteryears” Andrés Garcia is also Dominican and is very white. Don’t let haters make you feel bad.
the most annoying misconception as a Dominican for me is that we constantly sexualise ourselves most Dominicans are conservative.
As a Dominican I can confirm sometimes we do like sexual songs and sometimes dancing inappropriately but will also be the first ones to judge somebody if they’re being promiscuous.

Latin America = The American countries that speak _Latin_ languages, including Haiti and Brazil, who speak French and Portuguese. Both Latin languages like Spanish
Hispanic countries = Countries that speak Spanish, including Spain and Equatorial Guinea
So canadians from Québec (they speak French a romance language from latim) are also latins? This term is nonsense.
Berengue Comas if they're not they should be included
"Latinos" dont have pride. You dont hear French, Portuguese, and Spainish speaking Africans people saying they are "Latinos".

So would you say people from France are Latinos? Cause I think they would beg a differ. 😂😂😂
Haitians aren’t Latinos
We (Latins) are very diverse. We share a lot of cultural similarities and lot of differences, and that is precisely the source of our richness. And like any other family, some of us are more alike and some others are different from us, but at the end we shared the same roots and a similar history.
We’ve all gained our independence at almost the same time and with the same movement by being united, and also we’ve faced and suffered similar injustices, inequities and oppression, but we’ve managed to overcome it and continue walking with an admirable optimism.
Proud to be Latin!
I think calling us "latins" takes away a lot of our originality as countries and cultures
if we want more source of richness we should include Europe and Africa as well and why not just call us humans, since we share many similarities after all.

NO HISPANIC, NO LATINO..
Renato V. Macchi Sr. Hahaha....of course we are Latin Americans, we, at least in my country, we would use that term, but in the US they use Latin to refer to Latin American Culture, the same way they call themselves “Americans” eventhough we all live in America (of course that comes from the Europeans that called that way because they were the American Colonie)....And yes, we are proudly a mixed raced, with European and indigenous (some other more African) genes, blood and cultural influence....we know all of that, and that gave us diversity and a different mindset, and maybe that’s the reason why, at least most of us, are not racist as you are. And behind that facade, hides a lot of insecurities, fears and talks about that probably you weren’t treated with love and respect when you were little....how is or was your relationship with your Father....did he treated and treated people with affection and respect? Or maybe was more the opposite?
I love the party question and they were like “we were already talking about doing something after here” loveeeed it!!

As a gringa married to a wonderful Peruvian man- I have to say a lot of this video is correct. Especially about Latinos enjoying life more and being in the moment more than other cultures. I’ve def seen that with my husband and his family. My husband has a fast paced, corporate America leadership role, but he’s never anxious or stressed when things get busy. 💕 Also the generosity thing- they’ll give you anything without thinking a second thought. My American-ness is way more sensitive to personal space and ownership of items than they are I’ve come to realize.
The other thing though, is that I’m glad the jealous machismo tendency skipped him, he’s also way more less prone to make decisions emotionally. So I consider myself very fortunate!
You surely are: because of the family name I dare say your husband might be related to one of our main port's mayors during last century and to a very renowned artist. Congratulations.
Amiqui Gonzales yes that is true about the artist. It was great to see his work in the MALI museum in Lima :) not sure about the other individual. I will have to ask!

Latino is only about Romance Languages and Roman Latin Culture and cannot be used as a Race or Ethnicity indicator. Your husband must use either his race or Peruvian or Latin American and nothing else. Latino/Latina is only used to identify ones culture. The way is done in the Americas is totally wrong. South Mexico and Central America- maias
Andine America -andes Mountain Range
South of Brasil - German culture .
North Brazil -Amazon
Central Brasil -country culture.
