Dr. Hudson does an excellent job of making the material accessible and understandable. I'll join the others I see here who want to see him do more of these events.
Very much enjoyed Troys talk! You are an incredible public speaker, and obviously incredibly smart. Thank you so much! One question, sorry if I missed it, what rocket are we using to take InSight to Mars. I caught that we are not using Falcon 9 Heavy.
its the atlas v , the falcon heavy launched successfully yes.. but its still a working progress to launch such an important payload, in the future it might for example the mars 2020 rover might be launched by falcon heavy, i'd love to see that
I totally agree Ahmed, would love to see Falcon Heavy used in some Mars missions, it will be great to see it used in 2 confirmed so far launches in the near future. As for Mars Falcon Heavy, BFR or Atlas, as long as the payloads get there and we can get more data and images would be GREAT!
It seems to me the time and money spent on Mars would be better utilized on thorough investigation of either Enceladus or Europa. We can see Mars has no life and yet the odds are favorable for the other two. Heck,I would like to see those two worlds as top priority to the exclusion of ALL other NASA projects.
I've been waiting since I saw them land on the moon in 1969.I think it is time to find life, not play around wasting time, energy, and resources on everything but that.
there are two missions under way to go to Europa. Europa clipper will survey it from space, and Europa Lander will land on it, if that mission is approved by congress.
Yeah they have tested hundreds of times here on earth, when entering mars atmosphere allot could go wrong if that arm doesn't work then,,(witch I hope that it does )then what? Just saying
by not being a rover haven't we gone backwards. its like travelling to the outer planets today and not putting a lander on them. we already know we can achieve it and should be a norm, of all missions to touch the ground and taste it chemically. just going to planets and moons and pointing instruments and cameras is old now. its well passed time we had a lander with all missions to outer planers and the inner rocket planets should be a minimum of a rover. this is a wow so what mission as is the juno mission it was ok for dawn and new horizons as they were going somewhere new, unexplored, untested, areas of space. should be doing better is my verdict.
It's about informing the public and shaping public opinion on the importance of the points you made. A lot of people still say things like "Solve hunger and poverty first on our planet." :(
There are a dozen "what if's" before they even deploy the arm, if the arm doesn't work then the 2 experiments (seismometer and the mole) won't get deployed and we'll just have the data from the sensors on board. Lets get it landed on Mars first.
Excellent. Thank you NASA.

Awesome

It's going up on an Atlas V out of Vandenberg Air Force Base in May.

Can we have more of Troy Hudson please? He is Absolutely Amazing
Very interesting, looking forward to November!
You gave us a good insight.

Yeah, but let's practice on Mars.

this dude is so stoked. i'd be curious to see his reaction now
Is there a possibility of vibrations caused by the two solar panels (2.2 meters each) by the Mars winds interfere with SEIS Instrument?
Second time watching. Observations. Our universe is awesome. Speaker is excellent.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this and keeping the comments open to allow me to say that.! *thumbs up* JPL rocks :)

its about getting funding past the anti-science Republicans in the Senate. Soooooo.....
Thank you guys.
Great talks.
What if insight arm doesn't work then what....? Do you have a backup..?you do know things could go wrong.
That's why you have a sphere tire on your car

LIES !
Troy looked really constipated
