  • The left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP), that emerged second in the first round of France's parliamentary elections on Sunday, will withdraw its candidates during next week's second round in case they are in third position in the first round, said Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of the France Unbowed (LFI). "Our guideline is simple and clear: not a single more vote for the National Rally," Melenchon said. FRANCE 24's Liza Kaminov reports.

You know when a political party actually has nothing of substance to offer themselves, is when all they want to do is stop someone else.

Or they know what 3rd place candidates can't win, and hope to stroke an implied cooperation with Macron, so that they can win more seats

It is the complete opposite, if you are just opportunist, you will do nothing and try to win, even when you have no chance. By trying to block a party they are diametrically opposed to them, that shows more integrity.

@@SCMcDonLon The only reason they are doing this is if they are in third place, if they stayed in the race they risk being an spoliler to a party they are completely opposed to, and only around 33% of the French voted RN, which means the majority of French people voted against their terrible fear mongering.

Is this manipulation by the far left? How is the system designed in France?

No, it is a fair tactic. It is legal and legit. And it is only the left. There are no hard core communists here. But there is absolutely racism and fascism in the far right. Cope with it.

Nope, 30 percent is in NO WAY a majority. I live in France FYI. They're just honoring a decades long agreement amongst all the parties that they will always align for the best interests of France. This is called the Front Republican designed to avoid having facists in power. The French are way more sensible than us in the US. (American by birth.)
