@@MarksShrimpTanks Okay thanks. The water parameters of my running shrimp tank for past 3 weeks are : TDS 280, KH 4, GH 9 after adding the mineral after water change. The TDS before adding the mineral was 120. There are comparatively lower cases of failed molting than before .1st week of mineral addition 2 died, 2nd week 1 and this 3rd week none yet. One thing I noticed that previously when they molted, the skin shed was almost thin and transparent but now the molts are much thicker, white and opaque after the mineral addition. Dechlorinator has been shown to toughen eggs and make it difficult to hatch for shrimp. Season water ahead to allow chlorine to evaporate or you can get shrimp minerals to re-mineralize and use distilled or reverse osmosis water for greater success.
@@MarksShrimpTanks Yeah Alexander at Secret history living in your aquarium says it's recent research showing that and the guy knows his stuff. For chloramines running an active carbon filter in the water will remove without dechlorinators. I'd say do so a day or two ahead of using the water. So if you know or suspect your water is chloramine treated just run an activated carbon filter while you season the water.
Recent research? Sodium Thiosulphate (a type of salt)is in most dechlorinators will toughen up any organic if you use to much of it, this is something you do not need to research. it was a common practice before refrigeration to preserve meat. Its like me saying swimming in hydric acid is bad for you, Hydric acid just a fancy word for water. Active carbon does not stop chloramines, it can pass through Reverse osmosis membranes and DI resin can take it out through Ion exchange but if your DI resin is not working to its full efficiency it wont stop chloramines. You also cannot remove chloramines by ageing the water, this is all stuff you can test for yourself with basic test kits.
girls are bigger around what you would call the belly section , you can aslo see asaddle forming in the neck in girls as they form eggs, in blue shrimp the eggs can be yellow and green looking.
I am a new subscriber! I am just getting into breeding shrimp and just so happens to be they are some blue dreams that I bought at reef smart, a fish show in America. I started with 18 shrimp in a 20 tall that I have had set up for several weeks! No fish! Just moss and shrimp! One anubias! Thanks for the content! What kind of floating plants would you suggest?
Thanks for subbing Christopher!!! the plant I like the most for shrimp is salvinia because the roots stay short but can get very bushy which shrimp seem to love.
Hey Mark, I'm hoping to start a similar setup but outside. The temperatures drop to near 0 in the winter time and I saw in the video that some of your friends have kept them with a temp as low as 0c. Would you advise against this or do you have any tips?
@@MarksShrimpTanks don't take it personnally, but in french "MST" means "STD", aka the diseases of the buttocks, so this big logo written "MST" is quite funny :))
Safe has no stabilizer, so you can not premix it and store it. A lot of people make the mistake of premixing it in a water bottle, and storing like prime, which you can't do with Safe as it will become inert in about 30 min.
Thanks for pointing that out! It's important to know the limitations of Safe and how it differs from other products like Prime. Safety always comes first!
I would love to have a blue dream shrimp tank unfortunately I don't have access to the shrimp. Add a 300-gallon brackish water carnivorous tank and a homemade 100-gallon sump tank that I'm using as a live bacteria filter tank. That I am using for growing aquarium plants. Unfortunately my hundred gallon tank isn't enough to handle the waste product of the carnivorous tank. A good cleaning crew would allow me to remove the skimmer sock will providing the a filter feeder terrarium so that I can put my plants on splay rather than hiding them in the beginning of the sump filtering system.
Chlorinated water isnt a major issue in many countries. In Germany you usually only find it in major cities with not suffiecient access to fresh water. Here I drink tab all day but the water in the UK, especially Scotland was undrinkable to me, tasted like pool water, so I understand that precaution.

Hi Mark, I have been looking to do something similar, where did you get this tub? I have been looking at similar tubs at biltema, but with all their ridges and stuff at the bottom i'm afraid they will crack from the pressure in the bottom. How is the tub holding up over time?
I think I might have got this one from Jula actually and yeah its held up great, I think food grade plastic is stronger.
Do you recommend bee pollen?
yeap you can use bee pollen :)
@@MarksShrimpTanks oh ok I just got some today, do I feed it in rhe dish feeder or do I spread it around the tank? I only have like 25 shrimp. 20 gallon
just add a tiny amount onto the surface and let it spread around itself.
Dechlorinator has been shown to toughen eggs and make it difficult to hatch for shrimp. Season water ahead to allow chlorine to evaporate or you can get shrimp minerals to re-mineralize and use distilled or reverse osmosis water for greater success.
Dechlorinator has been shown to toughen eggs? never heard of that before. stuff like chloramine doesnt evaporate off like chlorine does .
You also cannot remove chloramines by ageing the water, this is all stuff you can test for yourself with basic test kits.
hello, how can i tell male from female of my red shrimps
girls are bigger around what you would call the belly section , you can aslo see asaddle forming in the neck in girls as they form eggs, in blue shrimp the eggs can be yellow and green looking.
Do you ship? I live in Kentucky, USA.
ship shrimp? No i don't, I don't even ship in Norway at this time of the year its -10c outside.
Hvordan type sand bruker du?
River sand from Jula, I think they use it for sanblasting.
Hey Mark, I'm hoping to start a similar setup but outside. The temperatures drop to near 0 in the winter time and I saw in the video that some of your friends have kept them with a temp as low as 0c. Would you advise against this or do you have any tips?
You should check out The Garden of Eders channel they have shrimp out all year and they some times get ice on their tubs.
What temperature are you keeping these at? (:
right now the room is around 20c
Jula buckets, are you swedish?
No I am Scottish mate but I live in Norway, we have Jula stores here. 👍🦐
@@MarksShrimpTanks ohh okay, thats cool didnt know you had that over there!
how come u have so much stuff from sweden ?
I live in Norway Peppe, we have a lot of Swedish stores here.
Wow ce nom de chaîne. S'il y a d'autres français ici dites-moi que je suis pas la seule à être pliée de rire svp... xD
Whats funny about Marks Shrimp Tanks ? 😂
@@MarksShrimpTanks don't take it personnally, but in french "MST" means "STD", aka the diseases of the buttocks, so this big logo written "MST" is quite funny :))
@@MarksShrimpTanks really like your channel by the way ! you make amazing things !
@@marjorielabrioche1440 Thank you :)
Struggling with shrimp? Watch this ruclips.net/video/odokPU9Ajsk/видео.html
Grate :)
Thank you Jakub :)
Java fern is really nice looking. Thats a plant I cant grow lol
I think I might try growing it like they do in hydroponics to see if I can grow a lot of it for my other tanks.
@Marks Shrimp Tanks that anubius I have up out of water is starting to get huge really fast now that its fully converted to emmersed form.
You can add water to the tub then wait till it gets. Algae , so that means acetone is gone
yeah this is food grade so they wouldnt have used acetone, I always do it just incase though.
Please make all of your videos this short.
Normally I aim for the 10 minute mark because you get extra adverts which doubles and triples the value of a video.
A good cleaning crew would allow me to remove the skimmer sock will providing the a filter feeder terrarium so that I can put my plants on splay rather than hiding them in the beginning of the sump filtering system.
where do you live that you cant get blue dream shrimp?
are snails beneficial to shrimps?
Yes, snails can be beneficial to shrimps! They help clean up leftover food and algae, creating a healthier environment for the shrimps to thrive in.
Chlorinated water isnt a major issue in many countries. In Germany you usually only find it in major cities with not suffiecient access to fresh water. Here I drink tab all day but the water in the UK, especially Scotland was undrinkable to me, tasted like pool water, so I understand that precaution.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's interesting to hear how the taste of water can vary from country to country.
