What if you circled Cummings at a dizzying, constant speed? Then wait for an opportunity to pounce on him while he gets dizzy following you (granted you don't get dizzy first). This in a way negates his position.
+wrestlejitsu are you high? Ryan is an accomplished grappler/athlete, Eddie's best claim to fame is EBI and being garry's training partner. I would hardly call any of this "innovative", have a look at the old school leg lock dvd's, they go over all of these techniques.
Bodycomb twists his wrist a strange way, you can see it start at 1:10 . It looks like he's trying to wristlock himself. I've seen Tonon do this to but not to this extent. Anyone know why he would do something like this?
Eddie is a kuzushi master leg locks are just the end result he has a complete game and would destroy Ryan Hall in any venue Ryan Hall is an amazing grappler and a class act but would tap within 3 min if he engaged
+Aiden Cunningham force him to turtle its hard but not impossible garry did it in ebi. i believe since he just buttscoops, passing his guard and go to side control would be ideal. tanqunho mendes did it in adcc and in polaris but to me its better (due to his defeat by mendes and hus rematch at polaris) to pass.
Deltoids1 for fucks sake this is a sport scenario. Don't compare this to a "street fight" mr expert. You'd carry a gun for that shit or strap a bomb to ur chest if it was multiple attackers
Deltoids1 eddie is a jiu jitsu competitor not street fighter he knows how to clear a punch he just developed his leg locks game. combat sports like jiu jitsu dont only give you the opportunity to defend sometime if needed but also an amazing condition so you can run away fast:)
Love the leg lock work but why would anyone in their right mind even play this game with him? The guys that beat him just go old school guard passing to side control……
no what you will have to do is mount and keep top pressure and balance, after you establish that be patient and wait until he makes a mistake. because as soon you go into his guard everything is open and your going to end up scrambling and there is a good chance he catches you
I watched a guy fightinhg on a BAMMA show, he heelhooked his oppenent but the guy in the submission had free reign to punch the guy in the head. The guy heel hooking lost via TKO even though he was perfectly lucid. Problem was he didn't let go of the hold and couldn't defend his face. leg locks are very problematic in MMA, but they are wrecking through bjj.
Innovative and effective in competition, but strikes me as pretty useless outside a padded floor/competition scenario. For me personally, I wouldn't spend any time on it, as I prefer because of the reasons I study jiu jitsu, to focus on techniques that work across domains of applicability, ie self-defense, competition, whatever. I don't think this really qualifies, for me personally. But great to watch and appreciate Eddies innovations.
+Greg Bledsoe Perhaps the entry itself, starting from a butt scoot position is the part thats not gonna work well in a street fight, however the submission itself is lock on deadly, and will work in any situation.
+Trillo Academy That's true, but this video is about the entry, that's where the innovation for a competition scenario is, and as such has application in limited theaters. I feel that this is something of underestimated importance as a lot of people seem to think all grappling is applicable in other scenerios, IE, if it works in the mundials, it works when you get jumped by a thug. I've no doubt Eddie knows the difference and could handle the scenario, but this distinction isn't always made clear to people new to JJ, so they work one thing thinking they are working another. I think people need to make their decisions about what to train intentionally and knowingly based on their own training goals
+Greg Bledsoe, when we fight on the street, we're fighting an untrained schmuck who's had too much to drink, 98% of the time. Here, Eddie's fighting with a world class competitor at the top of his game. Imagine how quickly he'd disassemble the drunk schmuck... :)
you're right. this is sport jiu jitsu. when you know you're not gonna strike or get struck, then yea, this can be a better option. bjj is broad and full of techniques including those that work for street situations.
true, but if the opponent is not very well versed in defending leg locks, you will easily destroy his legs before he does much damage with punches or kicks.
that was kinda my point actually. like its a different rule set so yeah, you dont do the same things you would in fighting. if you tell a good sport bjj guy he has to only hunt for leg locks in an actual fight, messi might kick him in the face, sure. but you gotta be nice and accurate and coordinating with your kicks because the head will be moving fast.
bottom line is dont think you can just never train in anything and fuck someone up in fighting just because they dont know all the other aspects of fighting.
Cummings is so beast but not by accident. Great team, coach, training partners and dude puts in the HOURS
Everyone "false reaps" now - Eddie was incredible
I was watching that thinking it looked really similar to false reap.
Brilliant, thank you!!!

Watch Eddie Cummings vs Renato Canuto.
Eddie Cummings vs. Ryan Hall!! Gotta see that match someday. Who ya got?
+Roland Kennedi Eddie all day. In a grappling match of course. Ryan's got him in MMA :)
Really? U taking Eddie? Man I'm goīn Ryan in grappling, love to see it tho
+Roland Kennedi Eddie all day (no striking)!
+Roland Kennedi I've got Ryan with ya buddy lol

Hello sir! I have question about this footage. How do I DM you?
is passing the guard the best strategy against this type of attack???
+Aiden Cunningham force him to turtle its hard but not impossible garry did it in ebi. i believe since he just buttscoops, passing his guard and go to side control would be ideal. tanqunho mendes did it in adcc and in polaris but to me its better (due to his defeat by mendes and hus rematch at polaris) to pass.

This is scary!
Interesting.
that strategy would gwt you aeriously hurt in a real ife situation or mma.
imagine this guy in a street fight though lol

can't carry in aus

He has no chance. Street fighters have crazy guard passing skills and wouldn’t allow him to grab their legs.
Love the leg lock work but why would anyone in their right mind even play this game with him? The guys that beat him just go old school guard passing to side control……

The mount makes you more vulnerable to leg locks than side control. Not recommended vs Eddie.
no attempts to control his wrist or arms? you let him sit and walk right into his wheelhouse? I don't get it.
I dunno, man. It looks like Eddie's open to getting soccer kicked.
;-)

Greg bledsoe i think it works in the streetfighting, just in different entry and more possible when to fight a not well trained on the ground
Not so practical when you're getting punched or kicked to the head

well THAT depends on how well versed he is at kicking a target. Messi would give anyone a run for their money if this was how they had to fight him.
that was kinda my point actually. like its a different rule set so yeah, you dont do the same things you would in fighting. if you tell a good sport bjj guy he has to only hunt for leg locks in an actual fight, messi might kick him in the face, sure. but you gotta be nice and accurate and coordinating with your kicks because the head will be moving fast.
