Your calm style of instruction is fantastic. Just goes to show you don't have to be arrogant when you're as good as you are. I'm no fighter but I appreciate the techniques and mastery of your own body and that of your opponents.
I honestly can’t believe I watched this when I started Jiu jitsu 8 years ago and it’s still getting recommended. It’s also really funny how advanced the leg lock game has become since this video came out. Stephan I really appreciate all you’ve done for Jiu jitsu over the years. Thanks!
actually it was breat heart and its close his right leg needs to be over his ankle and his left leg in the key hole and then you press up. the figure four is a knee bar not an ankle bar
I was kind of surprised as that first leg-lock actually works! I practice Jujutsu and during sparring/randori and I managed to apply the lock a number of times. I've also used it as an addendum to a number of techniques. I really like it!!!
The figure 4 lock actually does hurt. In wwe they dont lock their leg completely so their doesnt feel much pressure. But if you do it for real and put pressure on the knee and calve its hurts like hell
You meant to say the Pro-Wrestling Figure Four Leglock? WWE is a Wrestling promotion which they are many out there. About the Figure Four, it is an actual legitimate leglock but the way pro-wrestlers do it they do not put to much pressure but if you put enough pressure you can pop a knee out.
I guess I can google this question. Does anyone know how high Stephan Kestings IQ is? I have been martial arts for a long time and I don't think I have seen someone this dedicated to BJJ, or any martial art for that matter, who comes across so dang smart from the get go. I have met plenty of smart people, Stephan reminds me of someone that should be figuring out time travel. The Onzuka brothers are REALLY smart, I just couldnt tell right off the bat.
Nice video! I've got a question about using the leglocks in BJJ; You said they work well in a gi as well, but I'm guessing that just the first one would be safe for competition if the person doing it has anything lower than a brown belt (given that toe holds and knee bars are forbidden for white/blue/purple belts). Am I right in assuming so? Keep up the good work Stephan! =)
Finallly! Someone actually training leglocks and showing they are effective. I miss the Shamrocks of the world who would actually dive for these and be creative. These MMA guys these days don't even train this anymore... it's all arm bar, triangle and choke, that's it.
Evan Faraday yeah but its different in a street fight cuz there you just gotta brake his ankle if you dont he is just going to continue fighting that why i like this leg lock its simple you can get i position fast
I was actually in a position to move to reverse mount a while ago just before the round ended and I was really confused about what I could have done. Now I know, that leg weave is awesome. Leg lock weeks are my favourite (my coach tends to pick a technique and work from the basics to entries and counters over the course of a week to let it sink in).
you tube is a great place for fakes... I have been doing martial arts in one form or another for 35 years!!! I like this guy concise clear easy to understand effective instruction... I am now a subscriber🙏
The best thing to do when facing a 10pJJ guy: Just don't. If he's looking for a vaporiser he can hit it from pretty much anywhere; stoner control, lockdown, samurai, electric chair, twister side control, the truck/ a failed twister, and so forth. Plus, vaporisers really hurt :).
YOSEMITE SAM Thank you, mate. I didn't realise I was quoting Eddie, I just wanted to join in on the leglock discussion with what I know from 10th Planet. No idea what the other guy's problem is, but he's got UFC in his name... :/.
alleycatufc are you from Australia? If so.. I feel sorry for you. Do they even have a real high level black belt down there? Or do the MMA guys there just get drunk and bar fight as training? Maybe box a kangaroo or wrestle with a croc?
alleycatufc Thanks, I suppose, but I don't agree with you. This comment chain has gone like this: Some guy mentioned a 10th Planet leglock. I replied, with some technical knowledge and my opinion. You replied with an offensive and ignorant post. This went on for a while, then I left out of sheer boredom and some other guy joined in. He was reasonable and inoffensive, then you then posted 16 lines of nothing but pointless abuse to him that had nothing to do with the fucking discussion. This went on for some time, until eventually you apologised to me and blamed someone else, along with a bullshit reason. It's a leglock video, and I love watching Stephan's videos. Surprisingly, it's possible to discuss related topics without disrespecting the video, so really all I can see is some douche with unoriginal insults starting shit for his own amusement. And you say Sam's a troll...
The Figure 4 Leglock which is the 1st Fanciest Leglock looks like it would work in a real fight compared to the one from WWE. When doing a Figure 4 Leglock like this, you can either do a Figure 4 Achilles Lock or a Figure 4 Kneebar. The Figure 4 Leglock from WWE could be possible against the De La Riva Guard.
to turn the 2nd one into a calf slicer you have to plant forearm on the opponent's top instep and twist the legs (pulling on the bottom leg and pushing the top one). I like the knee bar variation. I'll try just pulling through on the bottom leg and see how it goes.
very solid thanks for making the video stephan, i love them all, the last would be my least favorite though just from my toe hold experience it seems often a fighting situation depending on how thick and strong one guys wrists are compared to the other guys ankles especially on that angle toe hold. opposite direction that does apply
I used one of those leg locks the other day. My opponent didn’t tap, but after I pulled a little harder. Lo and behold, soon as it hurt, he tapped. Thanks for the videos!
figure four doesn't exist outside of pro wrestling, it looks painful but it isn't really a hold. You are far better off doing a heel hook, toe hold or knee bar.
Thank you by watching this video I submitted an opponent in mma when we were going for simultaneous heel hooks. I did a variation of the first one. He thought it was a joke until the pain kicked in. Thank you
Punched me buddy in the face. "Where does that hurt buddy?' "In my face." "Yeah, it's gonna hurt in his face." I love it.. Hands down the best instructional video.
I'm sorry but I do not speak very good English. Correct me if I'm wrong. But I do not think that the first of Leg Lock is effective. The moment you move your right leg to tuck the leg of your opponent below, the opponent rolls, kicks and escape. Your right leg, locks the opponent, if you take it off he can escape. Personal opinion, what do you think?:-)
A couple of years ago after a club practice, we were messing around with one of the younger coaches, and he decided to slap on a figure-four leglock. It's mildly uncomfortable at worst, and literally only useful for playing around and showing off, as it's not necessarily within the rules (on top of that, the other guy would have to let you put it on him).
if you're tired and both of you are slippery with sweat, sacrificing a top position to go for a leg lock isn't always the best move. you said these mma guys don't even train this anymore. they do, you just don't see it as much in competition because it's a relatively low percentage move and if they defend it you can pay for going for a leg lock.
A bit... but you seem to be missing the point. So are you saying you shouldn't go for chokes because people can punch and elbow you with both hands too? Wait, even worse, they can kick an stop you. Your logic of not going for something out of fear of being hit is flawed... if everyone followed with that we would all just be standing and staring at eachother.
Frank Mir has a vid on the third leg lock. Sometimes what he does is press the ankle he has trapped against his forehead and crunches, basically using his abs to break the ankle. Main reason why that move sucks is there's no way to get out of it once you're caught; both legs trapped, and your opponent is behind so you can't punch him = game over.
@Richard all the time if done correctly. They're very damaging to the joints & ligaments you shouldn't go full force & just respect the technique if you get caught don't crank too much & both you & whomever you train with just tap or let each other know when to release. No ego or you'll get hurt.-Regards.
So? You can get punched in the face committing to anything MMA. That's not an excuse to not learn something. Learn as much as you can so when the situation arise... you'll have something for it. And as a side note... diving for leg locks, being punched in the face isn't really a big concern.
at 3:18 I typically throw the leg under my arm between my legs and sit down with his leg set up in a calf slicer. Then squeeze his leg to cause separating effects. Mine is a little harder to get but it's very difficult to scramble out of.
I'm a stupid wwe fan but i was an amatuer wrestler in high school, so forgive me for this question, but for the 1st one, could you tried to put your second leg in between his legs and make a figure-four leglock!!!!???
Just a question. On the second "leg weave" cant Ricci in this case just move his upper bode further down so he can prevent the lock ? In this showcase his upperbody is just in place where the lock will hurt/submit.
he said "if i want to make this totally pimp" lost my shit
haha same
Hahaha The way he said it
🤣
"Where did it hurt Richie?"
"My knee"
"Yeah..."
lol
proceeds to crank his knee even more lol
the russian accent was actually pretty good
It's more of what Americans think a Russian accent sounds like. It's not far off, but the sounds are somewhat different.
watch a lot of Homeland TV series....LOL!!!
He is mimicing FPS RUSSIA'S Accent and Entry style, and uses the same muaic and Logo design
As was the jujitsu!
"And if I want to make this totally pimp..."
I want to, but IBJJF won't let me :(
The 3 Fanciest Leglocks are:
1. Figure 4 Leglock with Achilles Lock/Straight Ankle Lock
2. Leg Lace also known as Ankle Lace
3. Toe Hold Ankle Lock
Apparently knee lace lol
Thank you.
leg lock 2 is volk han's cross heel hold
just tried the first one on my sister and now she is in the hospital
MC Norris lmao..
Is she better now? Lol
I tried on my boxing trainer hahahah
lol >.
Your calm style of instruction is fantastic. Just goes to show you don't have to be arrogant when you're as good as you are. I'm no fighter but I appreciate the techniques and mastery of your own body and that of your opponents.
These leg locks are super badass!
Poor Richie is always getting beat up.
FPS Russia lol!!!!
+George Guzman Shto?
I’ve seen Volk Han do these in RINGS.
I honestly can’t believe I watched this when I started Jiu jitsu 8 years ago and it’s still getting recommended. It’s also really funny how advanced the leg lock game has become since this video came out. Stephan I really appreciate all you’ve done for Jiu jitsu over the years. Thanks!
If you want to make this totally pimp!!
Love when he says that lmao XD
The 1st one was total Ric Flair
You're so right XD
Not quite, but similar.
actually it was breat heart and its close his right leg needs to be over his ankle and his left leg in the key hole and then you press up. the figure four is a knee bar not an ankle bar
Blazedrow Bret Hart was sharpshooter
I was kind of surprised as that first leg-lock actually works! I practice Jujutsu and during sparring/randori and I managed to apply the lock a number of times. I've also used it as an addendum to a number of techniques. I really like it!!!
is that the MMA version of the WWE Figure 4 lock. awsome, Nice
lmfao
hahahaha wwe that fake shite
More like the old Buddy Rogers NWA version, which broke a couple of legs when he got it too tight.
The best teacher on youtube
first leg lock is imo the best one because their isn't a lot of steps to it and you can apply it pretty fast.
"totally pimp!" made my day xD
Keep pressing 7 on your keyboard just for fun. lol
6 is cool too :)
6 is cool for practical purposes. THX!!
baymeo split 777777777777777777777777
lmao
hahaha genius
This guy is an absolutely amazing coach, thanks for the free education!
“Totally pimp” definitely gonna start saying that
this guy is great.
Scorpion hold by Sting
WWE 4 LIFE You mean the scorpion death lock by Sting. Sharpshooter by Brett Hart. However I didn't see any of them except the figure 4 by Ric Flair
That focuses on the back
4:48 LOL when Ritchie catches it
Can’t wait to teach these to my wife.
I always tap out when my wife kisses me though. She always knows how to get me. Lol
I guess I can google this question. Does anyone know how high Stephan Kestings IQ is? He's definitely smart. Ryan Hall is another BJJ super genius.
Awesome video. Thanks for posting!
Nice video! I've got a question about using the leglocks in BJJ;
You said they work well in a gi as well, but I'm guessing that just the first one would be safe for competition if the person doing it has anything lower than a brown belt (given that toe holds and knee bars are forbidden for white/blue/purple belts). Am I right in assuming so?
Keep up the good work Stephan! =)
All those Leg Locks are staples of Volk Han, great video also!!
Finallly! Someone actually training leglocks and showing they are effective. I miss the Shamrocks of the world who would actually dive for these and be creative. These MMA guys these days don't even train this anymore... it's all arm bar, triangle and choke, that's it.
They do actually work!!!
5 years training. i've been having a lot of success with the leg-over straight ankle lock and the reverse mount leg lock. thanks!
I thought I knew some grappling, emphasis on the word thought. But you have some killer moves. Thanks for sharing.
These are delightfully nasty. Thanks for the video, Stephan! ^_^
The first move is superb. In my mma club litteraly almost everyone i roll with gets tapped out with it. God i love that leg lock
AmazedBy Kev I've done that move in a street fight once and ended up breaking the guys ankle. These moves are great in any scenario.
AmazedBy Kev u
Evan Faraday yeah but its different in a street fight cuz there you just gotta brake his ankle if you dont he is just going to continue fighting that why i like this leg lock its simple you can get i position fast
I love BJJ... the only sport where you'll hear the question "is that your right or left leg?"
What about "The Sharpshooter"?
This isn't wwe
the sharp shooter focuses on the torso unless you do the inverted sharp shooter which focuses on the legs.
@@calebshouse1342 It actually does work
Yea same wit the Boston crab
lol he smacked himself in the face with the other guys foot , HAH i started laughin
This is like feet porn.
Amazing
Is there a specific name for the position that you wrap both of the opponents thigh with a figure 4?
Like in 4:31
Lol was that shot at FPS Russia. Lol Awesome.
This guy has some sick moves. If he got hold of me I think I'd just piss my pants
2:01 WOOOOOOO!
I was actually in a position to move to reverse mount a while ago just before the round ended and I was really confused about what I could have done. Now I know, that leg weave is awesome. Love your video. Learning so much. 4:50 to 4:57 🤣
Great work Stephan
Who is hell will fight with me ??? Coment n tell me 👇👇👇👇
you tube is a great place for fakes... I have been doing martial arts in one form or another for 35 years!!! I like this guy concise clear easy to understand effective instruction...
I am now a subscriber🙏
Haha you don't even look 35! Anyways good job!
+Precious Gaming™ actually I will be 50 this year... thanks for the complement 😀
Wow :D
Jeff Hallatt You have really nice eyes
Like Stephen Testing with a K ! Stephen Kesting !!
Got a love that Figure Four!
That leg weave is slick as hell, Ive never seen that before
"If you want to make it totally pimp.."
Excellent instruction, easy to understand, easy to follow. Great job.
the first move especially is EXCELLENT and I will definitely be taking that one to the mats. Thank you!
If you want to talk about a fancy leglock, the vaporizer is nearly incomprehensible when you look at the end product.. yet so very effective..

NinjaWarriorDude They've got Kit Dale, but aside from that... yeah.
alleycatufc Thanks, I suppose, but I don't agree with you. This comment chain has gone like this: Some guy mentioned a 10th Planet leglock. I replied, with some technical knowledge and my opinion. I feel bad for Richie's ankles
Damn that lock was really in there towards the end. OUCH....great video guys!!
#1 Ric Flair whoo!
Wow definitely going to have to practice these
That's dope leg triangles lmao

You can catch the third one from when your opponent has a knee shield in open guard. Just be careful of exposing your back.
I used one of those leg locks the other day. My opponent didn’t tap, but after I pulled a little harder. Lo and behold, soon as it hurt, he tapped. Thanks for the videos!
Thank you so much for this RUclips site. You have given a ground dummy like myself some stuff to train.
Thanks again
Yeah uh-....good luck with that.
figure four doesn't exist outside of pro wrestling, it looks painful but it isn't really a hold. You are far better off doing a heel hook, toe hold or knee bar.
Part of the last leg lock is missing. I really like that second set up though for the knee bar variation. Worked pretty well for me.
Hello Stefan, I see your training on RUclips and always enjoy clarity of your explanation and techniques clean and clear, keep so thanks
it is not easy as it sounds , i tried it today .. and with resistance .. it is like you have to work hard to get your lock ..
Thank you for the technical simplicity brother. This is easy to follow & you get straight to the point. Thank you
you need to work hard you cant just use them in a random fight , you have to train them to master them to do them right ..
Really good stuff, Sir. I'm a big fan of your videos.
Nice!!!
Thank you by watching this video I submitted an opponent in mma when we were going for simultaneous heel hooks. I did a variation of the first one. He thought it was a joke until the pain kicked in.

lol, "a-b-ductors." nice one
nice locks, nice humor... +1
Is the figure four straight ankle lock IBJJF legal?
Excellent finishes!
3 fanciest arm locks please
It's really fantastic dear sir 🙏👍 salute for you 🇮🇳 sir
nice move check the Llamas Switch leg Lock is very nice too is in you tube new video
Yeah, i can use this to fight with people who likes Hitler, think he is best in the world, watch My Little Pony and cant fight good. :-) And thank you
Awesome stuff. Well explained and easy to understand. Kudos and thanks.

Watching this on 2019 a time when 2 and 3 have become bread and butter now...
at 3:18 I typically throw the leg under my arm between my legs and sit down with his leg set up in a calf slicer. Then squeeze his leg to cause separating effects. Mine is a little harder to get but it's very difficult to scramble out of.
