Thru 2024 Soto is on pace for a cooperstown bust that has a curly W on the hat. Miss me with the Soto as a great Yankee when y’all only had him for one year. He helped bring a championship to DC as a 20 year old. Did more for us as a teenager than he did as a fuckin yank. I’ll always love this guy, even if he’s wearing LOLMets across his chest

It would've been nice to see Soto hit in Fenway Park, but I'm happy the Yankees didn't get him. I'm hoping the Sox get Tesocar or some other great right-handed bat and maybe another SP. Soto was going to be asking for way too much money and 15 years is INSANE! I've got a feeling there will be a ton of NL World Series winners in the coming decade though. With the Mets and Dodgers having superteams, they've got the best chance to win it all.

It is a stark contrast to the Yankees who are run much more corporate and business-like. Very interesting to watch those 2 distinct styles clash during these negotiations, and for more context into how the 2 teams sell themselves to come out after the negotiations.

But you also leave room, within your commentary, for Met fans to feel really good about this and do some celebrating. This coming from a tortured Met fan of three decades!… from NE Ohio. The cursed of the bambino in reverse for the Yankees... 😆 I do remember when the Yankees were fear and the biggest expenders in baseball, they used to buy championships... 😆 now I see former Yankees fans throwing away their Yankees hats on disgust of what the Yankees have become... at least as a red Sox fan we have won four world series championships very recently.

Cohen understands how race and culture impacts New York fandom. You just combined arguably the most popular Puerto Rican and Dominican players on one team, now what if the Mets go out and sign a very popular Korean player? This matters in New York, it especially matters in Queens. The fans understand this what's more importantly is that the Mets ownership understands this now. Timmy trumpet and OMG were just the beginning, the Mets with Steve Cohen are going to revolutionize how fans perceive the baseball experience. If you never seen a baseball game in DR or PR or Korea just wait you're going to see it in Queens

Cohen just re-set NY sports power dynamics. If I have $21B and share a city with a franchise that thinks good things is their right just by existing, I would absolutely spend $765m to publicly teabag my cross town rival. A message was sent. That being said, I'm glad and happy for him that he's no longer a yankee. The mets seem like a better fit for him. He's out of a team that could potentially hold him back (I think he realized that himself when he lost this years' WS) but he's still in the state that he loves.
Yes he had his best career season on the yankees, but that's because of how good he was AS A PLAYER. Being on the yankees had NOTHING to do with how good he was and Yankees fans can't seem to wrap their heads around that idea. When you're a baseball player, you look for prospects and a team you believe you can thrive in, not just a fat paycheck. I hope he does just as great, if not better than he did this year in 2025. As a lifelong die hard yankee fan who got to see the powerhouse dynasty teams, all I can do is agree that they haven't been what they used to be for over a decade now. Their decline began w/ the A-Rod trade imo because the importance of building a team that understands baseball was forsaken for signing big money draw players. When they got Soto I was happy because I thought he would've been a great piece to build around as Judge declines and I would say losing Soto is a blessing in disguise if there were any indication that the Yankees front office learns from their mistakes because it's now an opportunity to return to how Gene Michael built the 90s and early 00s dynasty teams w/ fundamentals, high situational baseball IQ and strong pitching w/ depth. Congrats to the Mets, but good luck with that contract. Only time will tell if y'all really stuck it to big bro ;)

Could be a blessing in disguise for the Yanks. Stanton and Soto couldn’t carry us in the postseason forever, no excuse to not add more and more with the money they were willing to spend on Soto.

I’ve been a Mets fan since I was 5 years old, in 1983; you obviously haven’t been a fan as long. If the Mets signed Soto; it means his talent will drastically decline; he will get injured, or he will play well, but the Mets will still find a way to completely f*ck everything up and NOT win (a pennant, the NCLS, the World Series, etc.). That’s what being a Mets fan means. Accepting that you will get 1 World Series win in your lifetime, if you’re lucky. I got ‘86, and it was AWESOME.
Now, if they had gotten Ohtani in the last offseason, THEN I MIGHT HAVE agreed that their curse was broken (until Ohtani threw a 2-seamer and shattered the top half of his arm in a spiral fracture, or some other nuclear-level disaster took place).
The Mets are like the Jets of baseball.

Happy for Soto, and will be rooting for him to do well on the Mets. Watching his at bats all of 2024 was a treat and it honestly doesn’t get old. He deserved to choose where he wanted to go
That said, the spiteful Yankee fan in me hopes the Mets never win the WS with him under contract lol. That would hurt. I’ve watched the Yankees make countless big signings since the 2000s and they rarely work out, so it’s never a guarantee of success
