    Excellent build and many thanks for the video. I learned a few things as to what to watch out for when I build mine. I need to tell you, get some sticky tack or tape the one part down when you need to put two small pieces together. Honestly mate, I was trying to hold the canopy for you when you put the insert in! Many thanks!

    Ive only just got chance to watch this and may I say, another great video Gary and you did well to avoid needing any "bleep" moments while tackling some of the issues. As usual, you won through and have produced a great build.
    Im currently fighting with an old Airfix 1/72 Westland Whirlwind helicopter that's been in my stash for a couple of years. Its a 1975 boxing..... from a 1958 mould, as I found the impression inside a body half!!!!
    No wonder there are issues. Lol.
    Maybe I should have waited for the soon to be released kit under the classics range.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад +1

      Cheers Simon! As for your Whirlwind, the moulds for the vintage classics release are exactly the ones they used back in the day. They just clean them up, do some test shots to see how they come out, occasionally do a little bit of repair and off it goes to India for production. However, they did redo the Beagle Basset transparencies from scratch as that part of the tool wasn't too good but the rest was OK.

    Superb looking Meteor, Gary! I do like the Belgian markings. It was great how you talked about the issues with the fiddly gear legs. Even with those issues, you've sold me on this kit and I'll be looking to add it to my stash of Airfix kits. I'm currently building a 1/72 scale Airfix F-86F Sabre with some aftermarket goodies like the cockpit, and speed brakes. Thanks for producing this video and happy modelling!

    Did you struggle putting the two fuselages halfs together.. finding a gap at the nose end at the top and its a tight fit all round

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад

      I did have a bit of an issue on the tiny bit just in front of the cockpit but I think I didn't have the cockpit tub seated absolutely right. Fiddled a little and it seemed to go together OK with some tape, didn't sit naturally of its own accord as it were, but didn't need too much to pull it together and once it was glued it was sturdy. The big issue for me was the fit of the wing into the bottom of the fuselage which needed some file work!

    Great build Gary. I've been watching your channel for about two months, late bloomer, and have been really enjoying. I noticed you use Revell Contacta Professional Glue. Thought that that type of glue wasn't used anymore, so was quiet surprised to see it in use. Was at my local hobby shop (2 hours away) and inquired about it, as I couldn't find it on the shelf. The fellow chuckled and pulled one from behind the counter, kept there due to some people using it to get high. Being a retired Addiction Counselor (32 years), I was familiar with this a s a problem. Long story short I purchased one and have found it great to use along with Extra thin. I was using nothing but the Extra Thin which is a great glue, however I sometimes need things to cure a little slower. Thanks for the heads up on this.

    • @garys_stuff

      I think it's OK - it did take a little nudging around to get everything lined up. You might want to take a bit of time on the dry fitting to get it absolutely spot on but I thin it's pretty close.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад +1

      Hi Mike - I use a random set of tweezers from online - I suggest a set with a pointy one, a curved pointy one and a flat one. You might also look for a reverse (or self locking) tweezer which is useful for things like holding the backing paper when you're putting decals on. You can probably spend a fortune on them but my ones came as a set at about £6 and they seem good enough!

    I'm a traditionalist and believe every aircraft model kit should come with one or more crew for wheels up configuration but that pilot does seem rather petite. Or have previous Airfix pilots been oversize?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 года назад

      The pilot for the Mossie was tiny. I think they are a little under-scale.

    • @stevesstuff1450
      @stevesstuff1450 2 года назад

      It may be, as another commenter pointed-out above, to compensate for the non-scale ultimate thickness of the cockpit tub, and walls....once he's painted and inside, he'll look fine! ;-)

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад

      I know what you mean, even far enough away not to be cracked by the wingtip as it passes, you'd struggle to read a lot of these... but if they're not there then Airfix would get flak from others about it. I know if I made another of these then the majority of the stencils wouldn't be put on...

    The fit of this kit in places and (indeed the design) is poor in some respects, for a modern kit. The undercarriage, nose cone and speed-brakes are examples of this. Airfix need to be designing kits so that they are straightforward to put together well and without the need for adjustment/trimming to get parts to fit properly. This kit should be a big advance on previous Meteor kits - I'm a bit disappointed that it falls somewhat short. Modellers shouldn't have to build more than one example to finally get it right!

    Your usual great build Gary!
    I think the smallish pilot figures like this and the Mosquito crew are because various things such as cockpit walls and canopies etc are by necessity thicker than they would be if they were scale thickness. If the Mozzie crew were to scale size they'd be hunched over and leaning towards each other. Fortunately I very rarely use crew figures unless the model is "in flight" or to hide the lack of interior detail on older kits. (Very occasionally I mix up large and small pilot figures in two seaters such as the SA Bulldog as few humans are exactly the same size.) I'm not one of those who declare a kit as unbuildable because the pilot is the wrong size.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 года назад +2

      Interesting point - I will ask the designers about this. I do need to get an idea od what the true scale is first. For the Bulldog, or indeed the Chipmunk, you can always say the smaller one is a cadet on an air experience flight!!!
