Lazy modelling, my arse! It's all about fun and that's what you're doing. Love it. Unpretentious modelling and exactly what most of us are like. Love your work 🤙
I have this kit… THE F4F is my favorite aircraft from WW2… I will watch this again… Bought this kit from SQUADRON SHOP , took forever to get it … from what I can tell , this is a great kit for its scale, beats all others Thanks for putting this together CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
@lpjmodels BUT the Arma kit goes together like a Dog! Airfix kit was a much straightforward build IMHO and looks great when finished as evidenced by your build 👍
Great video, great build, sir .Your kit turned out well in spite of your minor criticisms. I built the A02070 Wildcat. The parts appear to be similar, and I do not recall the flash and speckling on the engine, or anywhere on the kit. I found the kit to be well-made with very few flaws.
Stellar result James! I’m sweating over thinking about building a 1/48 Wildcat, and I’m in awe over what you were able to do at 1/72, especially with an Airfix kit!
Another way to stop fish eyes is to wash the kit with soap and water before doing anything and by doing this, it will save you in the long run. I do this with all my models before I start
A very impressive result and a soothing video to watch too. Afterwards, I felt nicely relaxed and in no mood to start fiddling with bits of plastic myself! 🙂
@@lpjmodels I've got the same kit, same box art, same everything (purchased in California) and mine has none of that flash that yours has. Unfortunately, I guess it looks like you got a lemon. However, you made it work and the final product looks amazing! Great job.
Great done. I think it will be food to use cap for airbrush cup, because spillover on almost ready model will be real disaster. All the best for You! ;)
James, "you lazy git" ;🤣 There's two types of modellers in this world - the lazy gits and those who pretend they're not. 😁. Definitely silk purse from a sows ear, mate. Nice work. Cheers 👍👍
I dont usually. Because of how mould release agents work today there is often no need unless the sprue is visibly greasy. Like the engine sprue here. Wierd, because the rest of the kit was fine
Good job on that kit especially with the crap moulding which unfortunately is very Airfix. When it came out it was the best Wildcat on the market in 1/72 but it's been completely superseded by the absolutely fantastic Arma Hobby kit.
Have you tried building the Arma kit yet? It has lovely detail and features and is a beautiful kit. But upon starting mine I was Very disappointed. I temporarily shelved mine and went back to the Airfix kit and am a happy man!
Excellent work James! By the way, how did you go gluing the fuselage halves in front of the cockpit? Mine had a massive gap that required sheet styrene and lots of putty.
Nice build there James. Given it was a mojo build you may not want to do this however an email to Airfix with a couple of photos recommending they up their quality control may be in order, It seems to be a constant problem of theirs
Thanks Kiwaruna . One of the things they ( Airfix) told us on the airfix day, is that the kits get made and packed ( mostly in India) and then are never opened until the customer sees the parts. They claimed that having someone go over the sprues would add too much money to the end product. Making them even more expensive. It is something that I felt needed bringing up when I had my 1on1 chat, and this is the reply I got. I fear I'd be flogging a dead horse. I get it, but it is annoying . 😒
@@lpjmodels So theirs and Hornby's products are made in China and boxed in India? After shutting down their British factory and leaving just a tiny design office here it's a cheek they still claim to be a great British company.
@@fus149hammer5 I think the toolings are China,( not 100% on tooling but its the most logical place ) moulding in India. But the new spitfire is a completely UK project.
@@lpjmodels There's a TV series in the UK called 'Hornby A Model World' Which follows Hornby and Airfix. In it they design and update model trains, cars and planes from their catalogue. They design items in this country then send the plans via the Internet to China for manufacture. Hornby/Airfix had a large factory in the UK but shut it down and outsourced the work to China making lots of people redundant. Their claim to be a "british icon" ting pretty hollow.
@@fus149hammer5 I dont know when this was filmed, but when I was invited to the hornby HQ a few months back they stated India as the site of the mouldings. Also confirmed on the wiki page here imgur.com/a/SgkVXD7 I agree it's a bit iffy but a lot of companies outsource tooling and moulding, purely because of the cost. I think there are very few European manufacturers that have in house moulding, I'm fairly sure eduard and special hobby over in CZ have in house tooling and moulding but I'm not 100%, das werk use the takom factory, airfix armour is academy tooled and so on. I think producing the kits here completely would be prohibitively expensive. One of the things that was said about the upcoming 24th spitfire made in the UK was that the dearest part of the process having them made here funnily was the packaging. And that's probably down to having to pay a minimum hourly wage of around £9 for someone to box something instead of 50p. Which in itself is a bit rubbish for the overseas workers too.
Model sprues with lots of flashing? That'll be an Airfix. I remember trying to build the bengal lancer once. The figure was OK but the horse? The body was so warped the two halves of the horses arse wouldn't join up so that went back!🤣 When you look at the quality of other brands it's a wonder they are still in business.

Beautiful job on this one! I'm actually in the painting stages with mine and love how yours turned out, most excellent! 👏👍
Jimmy Thach, Joe Foss, James Swett, Butch o'Hare and many other F4F aces surely would appreciate your work. I do indeed.

Now you should absolutely build the arma hobby wildcat or the new eduard!
The arma one maybe, done two wildcats this year though so may have to wait a bit
I'm getting ready to build this kit, thanks for sharing your process. This turned out great by the way. Have a great day.

Very nicely done! I've got an ARMA Hobby one sitting here that I've been tempted to do.
Thanks SMS , the Arma hobby one looks gorgeous, if I didn't have too many kits to build, I'd be getting a few more Arma kits.
That is a very impressive build - really enjoyed the painting on this one :D
Thanks Matt 🍻
Nice job! I’m building the same kit and had some trouble with the landing gear. Your video has been extremely helpful. Thanks!
I just bought this kit a few days ago. Thanks for this helpful video
Thanks John ! Let me know if your engine sprue was a bit funky, it would be nice if I got the only duff one.

Certainly looks like they had to rerun that Sprue at or near end of production. Looks way off compared for sure. Nice job on the recovery 👍
That was a wierd sprue mate !
Can't wait to see you build something you actually enjoy 😁 Great build as ever. The close up filming was a real treat. 😎
Thanks Sera ! Gotta watch out for that naughty depth of field
@@lpjmodels more practice and I'm sure you will nail it . 😎

Cheers mate ! Played it a bit safe on this one but I liked how they came out too
It’s crazy how much plastic airfix waste in flash! Good job on this one.
Great work James, keep the mojo up buddy, there's so much great stuff out there to build, paint and weather!
Amazing build as always! Watching the last photos are satisfying :D

Thanks Peter, you too man !
Nice build will use it to build mine
Absolutely fantastic work there my friend, the 'little' bird turned out absolutely outstanding, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Thanks Les hope you're doing well
Beautiful build James! You should definitely do a folded wing some time.
A fantastic build and a great looking kit! Liked the techniques good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent build, James 😊👍
Thanks so much @Sprue Fascination Channel !
Nice one James! As always a great build and weathering video. Even your "mojo" builds show a great level of detail. Stay safe mate!
Great build. Nice looking model at the end. =)
Love the result, it looks very realistic
Thanks Tiny Worlds !
That looks absolutely superb! Great work!
You made a mediocre quality kit into a really beautiful model.
Thanks T Paul !
You did a wonderful job on this
Great vid as usual.
I NEVER buy Airfix kits and your build confirms why. Even Tamiya kits produced 50 years ago are better moulded...
Thanks Bob, it's a shame as some subjects you can't get in other manufacturers. That walrus for example.
Very nice work. I wish i could build 1/72 aircraft like you, really aircraft in general like you.
Thanks Peter, I feel a bit of a hack when It comes to AC I have always been geared towards vehicles but funnily just do a lot of planes 😆
Gorgeous work!
Thanks José!
Fantastic work
Very cool turorial.
Nice build and paint job mate !
Great build mate, nothing over board but well done.
Thanks Jason, 100% a bit of a safety build because I haven't been feeling it as much lately. But gotta plough through
*Very nice build, your F-4 is so realistic!*
Thanks my friend!
Brilliant finish! Its not my favourite aircraft but you done a stunning job and i like it a lot!
Cheers Sully !

I dont usually. Because of how mould release agents work today there is often no need unless the sprue is visibly greasy. Like the engine sprue here. Wierd, because the rest of the kit was fine
