    Sometimes I play QB during catching drills, just to make sure the ball's where it needs to be every time (most times), and I can fire it in there quick, rapid fite like as they come down the line. U think this is a bad idea? Should I always let my QBs do the throwing? I know chemistry comes from reps, but when we have a short time to practice before games I want to make sure they're hands / eyes get efficient reps.

    • @CoachD
      @CoachD  Год назад

      I like to have stations so you could be on one station they could be on another. Feel free to step in and take a few reps if you have a smaller group, but I like to give the QB the practice and they just feel good when they are involved like that. Sorry for taking so long, coach. 🏈🔥

    How far apart are the cones laid out here in this drill?

    • @CoachD
      @CoachD  3 года назад

      Sorry for the delay - it depends on the age group and QB. For young groups or a QB who can’t throw deep, I would say 3 yards apart. Otherwise, I’d go 5 yards apart. The goal is for them to get the routes down. Finally, I would coach them that if we are near a first down or the end zone they want to go to the “line to get” and make their cut so they ensure they are past the line to get the first down or TD. But at the beginning it’s all about form and getting the routes down so the distance isn’t as important. Make sense?

      To better explain some of them may have never played football before

    • @CoachD
      @CoachD  Год назад +1

      I would keep it simple for sure. Map the routes out on the field with cones at first, then create 2 stations and have them repeat one route (2 lines of WRs) at a time over and over (rapid reps).
      Then coach in the moment for catching principles.
      Don’t overexplain anything - show vs. tell.

    Quick question coach! Why do you encourage well put so much emphasis on practicing with gloves on? Just curious because on all levels that I’ve been coached on and I’ve coached the philosophy of catching the ball with out gloves is to truly get used to catching the ball with your hands. Reason being guys and kids get so used to the feeling of gloves that there hands are cotton and they claim catching a football “hurts” with out them. I’ve seen it even get so bad to where a kid forgot his gloves at home and didn’t even want to suit up in the game or catch the ball the way he was coached with out them simply because he had no confidence with out them and was not used to feeling the pig skin making contact with his skin. I was always thought Gloves should ADD to your game not be the foundation of it. Please share some insight with me coach 😊

    • @CoachD
      @CoachD  Месяц назад

      I dig that. Makes sense. I’m a practice as you play guy, so I will always believe you need to be suited up (as much as you can) when you practice, so you get the feeling of real game speed and form. I like the thought of building up the strength and toughness of your hands so that you can catch with or without them, but if you are going to play with them on, you should practice catching with them to ensure the proper fit, catching form for each type of throw and route. You don’t want to figure that out during the game. That’s all mental and physical prep pre-game. Just my thoughts, but I appreciate the different perspective.

    Let's be real here, this isn't the 70's...No receiver catches the ball anymore, the gloves do. I would recommend receiver coaches teach young receivers to use their hands first in practice to develop "soft hands"...Work on hand strength and get the finger tendons nice and stretched out. Once they begin to master those basic techniques, then switch to the crutch known as receiver gloves...Just my two cents.

    • @CoachD
      @CoachD  6 месяцев назад

      I respect your opinion. I love the idea of a WR learning the fundamentals of catching and conditioning their hands to catch even without gloves. Why not do both. Work on get the techniques and conditioning down, plus get those gloves to make it all come together. Appreciate the comment! 🏈🔥
