Great question! Prior to having the Match, medical students would have to interview at places then decide on offers (you have to sign a binding contract or you lose your offer!) before they even know if they were going to get an interview at another place which may have been a better fit. It wasn't fair to all the candidates to be able to find programs that are a good fit for them so the match was put into place. The Match algorithm actually favors the student's list, so while it's stressful to go through the process, I'm glad students have an opportunity to learn about programs and prioritize places that would work best for them!
@@AmandaSXiMD thanks. From NRMP site: Applicants must sign the NRMP "Match Participation Agreement" (contract) during the Match registration process when they register for the residency match; essentially, you sign it electronically as part of the initial registration steps to participate in the match. This contract is binding with NRMP. Then after match or onboarding, the applicant signs a contract with the program.
We can almost feel the adrenaline, the doubts, and the thrill from your moment in this video. Good job! I loved it. I'm an IMG going for this fantastic journey called MATCH in the same area as you did. Your video is amazing! thank you for sharing.
Extremely helpful video! I'm a fellow Michigander as well! I am currently trying to make my rank list for pediatrics and it has been very hard this year with everything being over zoom. Also struggling with whether or not I want to leave Michigan, but looking forward to match day!
Hi Victoria! Thank you so much for watching the video - I'm glad you found it helpful. Glad to see another Michigander on here 🙌. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to try to figure out a rank list from virtual interviewing, but I have heard a number of applicants say that programs doing virtual "second looks" have been helpful. I know some applicants are actually driving out to see some of the cities their considering - maybe you could plan a road trip just to see if you could imagine yourself living in that area! Either way, GOOD LUCK!
@@AmandaSXiMD That's a really good idea to plan a little road trip to some of the programs that aren't too far away! I will definitely try to do that. Thanks again!
Hi Teri! Thanks for watching. My next scheduled video covers your request EXACTLY! It's like you knew it was coming =). Wednesday, Feb 3 @ 1PM EST the video + blog entry (blog.amandaxi.com) will go live. Can't wait for you to watch and let me know your thoughts!
Not knowing exactly where is matched is just nuts 😂😂. Is it the decision from the Dean’s Office or from NRMP? Why do they want to do that?

@@AmandaSXiMD When does the applicant sign the contract? Is it when the applicant’s final ROL is submitted?
Applicants attest to an agreement when they enter the NRMP; after the match, the student then signs a contract with the residency program.
