He's one of only three players in the majors with an OPS of 1.000 or better, and the leader in that category is his teammate, Aaron Judge (Ohtani is the other). @@jonny-dp2qr Yeah I hate to see the guy struggle even with a different team. I have to think this is temporary though. He is just far too talented not to figure it out. Sometimes I think when guys have so much success at such a young age the expectations get out of control and the pressure gets to them. Bryce Harper had a similar regression while he was still with the Nats. Then he went back to putting up MVP caliber numbers a couple years in with the Phillies.
soto is magic. he took us to the playoffs and if we get to the WS, he’s gonna be a big part of that. i’m gonna get his jersey for the next season and i’m really excited to see what that brings!
Finally someone is talking about this kid. I'm a nats fan so I watch him all the time. The discipline with this kid is unreal... so many young players just want to mash the ball and strike out a ton (Javy Baez, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Pete Alonso, Javy Baez). His knowledge of the strike zone is absolutely unreal for a player this age. The sky is the limit for this kid!
@@Sebadiah23 If you look at the macro stats only, you may have a point, but Soto's approach at the plate - especially with two strikes - Is very reminiscent of those guys. Reynolds actually watches the game, and doesn't just look at a stat block to make a comparison between players.
Brashnir I know you want to pretend I didn’t watch Tony Gwynn play, which is your call, I don’t care, but he never had 83 walks or 100 strikeouts in August, ever, not close, in his 20 years, so his two-strike approach automatically isn’t similar to Soto, and wasn’t pitched to in a similar way, at all. Pitchers didn’t fear his power, because he had none, so he’d ultimately keep being fed hittable strikes, so he would rarely strike out. At-bats nearly always ended with a ball in play. With Soto, on the other hand, pitchers ultimately want him to chase a ball out of the zone to induce a strikeout, or take a pitch on the corner for strike three. If he doesn’t chase, he walks. Unless you are just referring to fouling off borderline pitches in the middle of an at-bat waiting for a better pitch, fine, but nothing about what matters most( the pitch that ends the at-bat), is similar to Tony Gwynn, and never will be.
@@Brashnir Soto is a much different player than Carew and Gwynn. Carew and Gwynn are both good defenders with speed, Soto is not. Harold's comparisons aren't that great either- in 2016 he said Kris Bryant was better than Mike Trout, and just this draft he compared CJ Abrams to Jarrod Dyson(two completely different players).
love the mobb deep reference @ 6:25, I havent seen Hamilton but ppl in the comments are incorrectly identifying it as a reference to the musical, but I assume ur referring to the og line.
When Soto was in Hagerstown, Jack Sundberg got injured in Potomac, so Soto was called up. He continues to play well in Potomac, and then Daniel Johnson got injured in Harrisburg. Soto was called up to Harrisburg, and then after playing well in Harrisburg, Kendrick got hurt and just 2 days before then Victor Robles got hurt in AAA, so he couldn't be called up, so they took a gamble with Soto, and it paid off.

Juan Soto just drove in 3 runs including a homer in the world series. Yikes
soto is magic. he took us to the playoffs and if we get to the WS, he’s gonna be a big part of that. i’m gonna get his jersey for the next season and i’m really excited to see what that brings!
SOTO is doing a great job in WS 2019 GAME 1.
Absolutely crushed a homer and a solid double in Game 2 as well. Kid's a superstar.
This video is so much better a year later
As Harold Reynolds said on MLB Tonight last night, "He reminds me of a Rod Carew or Tony Gwynn with power".
RiverCatsGaming Those guys didn’t walk as much- Harold is a dope.
@@RiverCatsGaming Keep playing spreadsheet baseball.
By The Way, Soto Just hit the game winning hit in the Natinal League Wild Card Game...against one of the Best Left Handed Reliever Pitcher !!
I live in Harrisburg PA, I always go to Harrisburg Senators games and I've seen Soto a couple of times. Man was a hitting machine
Update 4 years later: He’s still never had an OBP under .400!
These videos are so good man, the editing is super dope, they're informative, and hella entertaining.
This aged really well.
Actually not, I can't use SeatGeak right now 😔
Hey Foolish Baseball, my RTTS player had a 600+ OBP in both his age 19 and 20 seasons, while hitting 80 home runs both years. Checkmate
@@gearldineschneck9422 why'd you steal a 2k liked comment? lol
love the mobb deep reference @ 6:25, I havent seen Hamilton but ppl in the comments are incorrectly identifying it as a reference to the musical, but I assume ur referring to the og line.
Juan Soto doing all this at 20 makes me feel like I've done nothing meaningful in life. Which is true but that's beside the point 😝
yea I know what you mean but sports are a young mans game in general though so it's not wise to compare ourselves to athletes
I'm four years older than him. Same.
These videos are so good and well-made I wish there were more of them. I could watch these all day
Working on a new one.
15 years, 765 million. Largest contract in sports history.
Me, an idiot: Juan Soto
Foolish Baseball, an intellectual: HWAN Soto
I'm American and I will not learn how to pronounce things.
The Super Mario World 2 music really makes this video that much better. This editing is absolutely great, keep up the awesome work!
I absolutely love that yoshi’s island music, oh the nostalgia
Best channel on RUclips. I subscribe to dozens of channels and yours is my favorite. It’s a great day to find a new Foolish Baseball vid. Please upload more!!
Foolish Baseball: How Soto does it !?
Soto: Plátano Power !!
Junito Punto Comm Soto eats the brown part of the platano
@@fatshibaballs Yup !! Lol
Great vdieo man, loved it. The segue comment was hilarious too, well played.
I'm listening to this at work waiting for the Soto press conference laughing at the comparisons to Tatis and the lunacy that these guys are now on the same team.
His last at bat in the 2019 wild card game is what brought the Nat’s their first WS.
participates in home run derby
hits 524 ft homer
derby somehow IMPROVES ability to play
and he's still not talked about enough
Is that a Bichette sighting around 3:10? Puts in perspective how quickly Soto blew through the minors. And also cool that they managed to play against each other during his 14 seconds there
I came back to this after watching him win the wild card game by himself 💯
You mean when Trent Grisham lost the wild card game by himself?
@@drggphd6711 Why did they bring the closer in for two innings, I still don't understand.
Disgruntled RUclipsr because Hader is really good at pitching for more than 1 inning
Anybody notice that Hamilton reference in 6:23? Good job Foolish Baseball, very epic.
An important note is that Victor Robles injures his arm in AAA around the same time as Kendrick went down which prompted the call up for Soto
The nationals were absolutely correct to promote him this fast, wish more teams would promote top hitters before like age 25
A friend of mine who is a braves fan and myself (a nats fan) were having a talk about young talent, and it seems like you only really notice Soto if you see him enough. As a braves fan he can’t stand him because of how tough an out he is but loves him as a baseball fan
Soto just isn't that flashy, but he is effective.
Can uh, can we get a follow up video considering that he’s gotten BETTER, posting an elite OPS above 930, and a 430 OBP
Yep. Plus he's nowhere near his prime. I can't wait till his age 25-32 seasons.
Very Very nice Mobb Deep reference at 6:29
YESSSS!! Im absolutely in love with this kid and he's incredible.
He's a savant.
Finally a Baseball Bits video about the Padres! It only took the one of the biggest trades of all time to make it happen
i like the punk band names in the "part #" slides
thought i might’ve been the only one who caught it! my worlds colliding, lol
This video continues to age well. Soto is still an unbelievable hitter, but he's also been getting way better in the field
Bryce Harper left Washington because he knew he soon would be overshadowed by Juan Soto and he couldn't take it.
Tony B I don’t think so, Juan Soto is the most underrated baseball player, no one, including some nationals fans, don’t understand how good he is. Harper will always be more popular than Soto sadly
I think he left Washington for 330 million dollars.
@@FoolishBaseball do you think the cheesesteaks had anything to do with it? Great video BTW, love this channel.
@@ciaranbarr8474 wait a couple of years when juan soto earn his world series ring and MVP and then we talk, who will be more popular
Ha ha, might be sooner than that!
