You remind me of a woman I know, Kelly. Ironically, her name is also Kelly. I worked at Starbucks for 5 years, and she was a regular customer and homeless and addicted. She is about your age and has gone through very similar circumstances. You're never alone ❤ She came in often, I gave her meals and coffee for free most days, multiple times a day, but she always insisted on paying when she could. After 3 of those years that I worked there and served Kelly, she got a job, she got enough money to stay at the hotel, and eventually an apartment. She works at the grocery store next to that Starbucks, I love seeing her when I grocery shop. She picked herself up one more time, and she has been sober for 6 years. You can do it too! And remember it's okay to ask for help. Your best days are ahead of you. Nothing is impossible.

Don’t stop before the miracle .. She can clean up , there is hope .

It’s not to late ! Keep going forward .I hope she gets what’s she needs , love , understanding and medical help .. Maybe go into a long term rehab .

The fact that her daughter went down to skid row to find her and wants to help her get off the street shows that despite her struggles she was still a loving parent. @@riahjean3168 Swollen hands can be a symptom caused by problems with the heart, kidney and liver as well as different types of arthritis caused by the body attacking it’s own joints ( autoimmune diseases). So the body’s whole system is involved in causing the swollen hands, not an isolated problem with the hands themselves. It’s not surprising that drugs affect the entire body and affects how each organ in the body works, showing symptoms on the skin ( her face for instance), and other areas like her hands. They are red flags that the main organs of her body might be struggling.

Including herself? It's odd a dad working in the aerospace industry and parents who wanted to adopt, which isnt easy, yet THEY were the messed up ones. So messed up they caused her to be messed up? Id take the story with a big grain of salt. Key details could be very different. I find it interesting her mother was a crack addict. Perhaps for such children born addicted, one try and you're addicted again. It's rare anyone gets the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth out of an addict, including alcoholics.

She never really had a chance. The most important and common thread I see with the interviewees on this channel is the fact that very few of them had anything that resembles a normal childhood and a loving home with a mother and father in it. If you haven’t properly planned to provide a stable and loving home to receive a child, DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN!!! If you do, you’re going to mess them up more than you could ever imagine.

Iowa went the farthest. Many of their states have also given contracts and funding to the same companies that run private prisons to build and manage privatized foster care facilities. Knowing it's possible to fix your life knowing there's people out there that have done what I thought was impossible gives me hope I will make it through as well. Those who share their experiences don't know how much it helps when you're about to give up, it gives you the strength knowing somone who actully know what it's like to go through this tell you it's possible, it's not the same somone telling you you can do it when they have no idea what it's like, but hearing somone who knows what it's like that helps a lot since you understand it firsthand and made it out gives so much hope. so thanks for sharing.

Unless she puts the drugs down and works thru the childhood trauma it will continue to destroy her. If she doesn't stop using before she moves in with her daughter, the cycle will continue; not a great plan unless she is sober. She owes it to herself to embrace how strong she really is as an Adult. Barely existing on skid row has become her comfort zone.

When I just care about myself and how I feel, that's when I would use. So, to stay clean, it's me being ok with waking up daily living in permanent physical and emotional and mental pain....but at least I'm doing it. She has just broken my heart n now I can’t stop crying. This is one hell of a sad story n I can only wish her the best of luck in getting a home for herself n her daughter n hopefully then she’ll seek out therapy n rehab. Big bear hug for you Kelly xxxx

I am so thankful for my parents. I grew up loved and in a very stable home. My husband and I were able to do the same for our children. They are the first to go to college on my husbands side. The trauma these people have been thru sickens me. This woman’s abuse started at 6 months old. Proof that abuse causes many to go down this path. It’s as if she had zero chance since birth.

@@isurvivedscammy3109 All right. The exception to this would be for the developmentally disabled.
Graduating from high school and especially a GED is not a major accomplishment in the scope of an adult life.

I feel sorry for her and others who have had their lives robbed, but why choose to have kids in this situation? Just why...

Just you interviewing her, asking her simple questions that tapped into her soul--this was probably like a THERAPY session to her, something she has never experienced before if not for years. 🙌
