  • The footbridge of Isolotto in Florence is one of most important bridges on the Arno river both from a strategic and historical point of view. Carlo Damerini and Vittorio Scalesse designed it in 1963; the static scheme is particular and clever, two post-tensioned concrete cantilevers (20 m each) hold the central simply supported post-tensioned concrete span (50 m). At the edge of the central span are placed two ballasts necessary to reduce the middle bending moment (8 m each).
The central span was crumbling and a replacement of this was needed. The Maffeis scope of work has been the development of removal method of the central span and the design of the needed steel structures.
