36 Hours Exploring the Scottish Island of Kerrera - A circular Hike & Wild Camping
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 сен 2024
- I took a couple of days out to visit the island of Kerrera. A short ferry trip from very close to the town of Oban - Western Scotland.
This anti-clockwise circuit of the island included monuments, eagles, sea life, friendly sheep and the very rare Kerrera Chestnut Haggis....
The trip highlight was the magical Gylen Castle situated high above the coastline in the Kerrera south.
Two nights wild camping offered lots of time and opportunity to explore. Join me on this very accessible island adventure.
Thank you

Your videos make sad days better.
Thank you 😊😊😊
Perfectly stated.
Walking past your camera for a distant view had me thinking you’d have to come back.
Too funny to hear though: “What I do for my art”. 😂
Thank you for the awesome quality.
Thank you very much 😊... 😄😄
@outdoorboys I reconized this right away from your trip
👍
We had a great weekend on Kerrera. The only difficulty was finding a pitch that wasn't covered in sheep dollops. We got a pitch down near the castle. Great video. G
Hi there... Aye, there's quite a lot of poop... My first pitch on night one was excellent pitching between sheep and coo poo.. 😎
There's a wonderful cafe on the island but I guess it was closed when you did your walk. Highly recommended. Another great video!
Hi. Yes it was closed.. But a good reason to return 👍😎
here from tiktok

That is very nice. Thank you 👍
Loved it. Watching on a rainy, Northern California afternoon. Wonderful vibes.
Thank you very much 😊
Shape, colour, but texture finishes the beauty off. A low light and gentle breeze - good one dude. Thx for posting. JMO.
Thank you JMO... 👊👊👊
Good video.
Have walk Kerrera a number of times as we used to live just outside Oban.
Brought back many happy memories. Had a job that used to require me to cover North Lorn including many of the Inner Hebrides.....lucky me...miss it.
Will be subscribing to your channel.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much.. sounds like you had the perfect job... Right up my street... Beautiful part of the world. 👍👍👍

Eyup Ray... I've been looking for my cycling mojo for months now... and I need it back fast.. it's just as well I enjoy getting outdoors whether on foot or wheel... It's now my job to inspire you to get back out to do what you really do well 😉 Next trip I'll be slugging rum'n'coke 🥃
I love Scotland ❤️ My Father immigrated from Scotland to Canada in the 70's to work for the Hudson's Bay Company
Thank you very much for your lovely message 😊
Really beautiful island. I’d never heard of it before but now i want to go
Thank you. Lovely little island 👍👍👍
Great video. We (me and my wife) were on Kerrera on Friday (3rd May). Lovely island. Hard to believe you're just a couple of miles from a Wetherspoons 😂!
Exactly - and a good spoons at that... Nothing better than stealing in for a couple of cheeky ones before an adventure starts.... 😉😉😉🍻
Looks like you had a great wee adventure Jim. Interesting little island . Great footage cheers Atb Andy
Cheers Andy.. hope you're well pal 😊 👍👍👍😎
Got a bit of a cough which I have had for about 3 Weeks . Doc said yesterday it might last 90 days lol. Hope it clears up for next weekend as am Inveraray bound for a couple of days. Cheers mate Atb Andy
@@justandy1035 aye, there's a few been knocked down by the cough at work.. it almost leaves, then seems to return... GWS. Inveraray you say... Lovely little village and some nice walks too... All I seen to do is drive through it these days .. I must stop... Have a good one Andy... 👍
Nice one Jim. Oban and the surrounding area is like my 2nd home. Have scuba dived around Kerrera since I was a lad. That bay you spent your first night has a few flying boat (Sunderland and PBY Catalina) wrecks just offshore. The results of failed take off and landings. Oban was a flying boat station during the war. Glad you made it to Gylen Castle, area is beautiful, especially in the winter sun. Kerrera Tea garden near the castle do lovely meals that you can eat outdoors or in the converted barn. Highly recommended. Pity the weather gods didnt behave but thanks for sharing. 👍
Wow.. I didn't know any of that... I used to work for a chap thirty years ago or so who used to come up to Oban to wreck dive... Perhaps that's what he was up to??? Kinda all makes sense now.. lovely island 😊
I was genuinely excited for a new video, Mr. Boredman. I gotta say I loved it. Kerrera looks just magical, and you went on a proper adventure.
Thank you very much 😊
“Like most modest things…” because dry understated humor is so refreshing :)

The road surfaces where looking great till around 2:50 ...still better than Glasgow roads though :) Great video and glad your channel is still growing. ATB, Donny & Maxine :)
😁 you're not the only ones to mention that 😄😄😄😎 Thank you 👍
Lovely place… I spent a day there last year unintentionally as I got lost… if only the haggis had been there to save me
Ello Pathead how ya doing - lovely to hear from you... 🤜🤛..I'm not sure how you can get lost on Kerrera but maybe you're being phycologicalmetophyscaldeep? I guess I got lost on a couple of occasions during the visit. 🤔
Hi Jim, that looked like a grand little adventure! All the best Jase
Thanks Jase.. hope all's well 😎
Thank you for the beautiful video 👍🙏

Beautiful video thanks!
It is very lovely 😊😊
New here! Love your channel and looking forward to more videos.
Thank you very much 👍👍👍👍
I have always loved Scotland What a lovely place to be!
It is a lovely country ☺️☺️☺️
That was definitely a Wild Haggis, thanks for taking me on a lovely adventure
Yes... People were saying it wasn't but it was wasn't it... Definitely a Kerrera Chestnut Haggis.. Thank you 😊
Fantastic views as usual !! Always looking forward to your next adventure 😊 thank you for today's video
Thank you very much 😊
❤👍🏻
Good video, good editing
Thank you 👍
Would love to see you travel to New Zealand. Just got back from there and it’s such a camping friendly country.
Crikey that would be amazing... Lottery win bucket list trip. 😊
It’s a grand wee island hope to get across soon. Did you see the Ravens in the castle? That sheep looked like a chocolate Ryland but it’s probably a hybrid. Love these wee islands where the posts is a farmer and the coffee shop owner is the fireman etc.
It’s a stunning place when there’s blue skies.
Sheep - what sheep? Chestnut Haggis.. I googled it.. aye, lovely island Swampy... A few tyre tracks too.. 😉🚴
Yup hopefully get across this year and do a few others too.
Am enjoying ur videos and i hope to get on a outdoor trip with u one day 🙏🏻 much love man ❤
Thank you very much 👍👍👍
I am not so sure about murky, it seems calm and mysterious, as for the traveler. Thank you.
That's exactly right... Calm, moody and magnificent 😀
Currently planning all my adventures this year. Have got all the gear, now I need to use it!
That is great to hear... Where are you planning on going first? 👍👍
@@BoredManOutdoors this spring probably just a local weekender somewhere in Cambridgeshire, but definitely want to do somewhere in Mid wales in summer, plenty of bikepacking routes over there!
Just found from the dude cole on fb and am here for it!!!! Wish i could go with you but am far away but its so still and peaceful.❤
Thank you very much 👍👍👍
Nice one Jim. Always fancied that island. Think Robin's been over there. Couple of nice pitches anaw. Least the days improved from the claggy mc dayoneclagface eh. 😁
Aye it was a nice little island Kev... A nice change 😎
What a beautiful place!!! I love camping but not in the rain 😅 perhaps one day, I will not mind as much.
Hi there.. camping in rain isn't toooo baaaad, walking in it day after day can be a little dull.. 😉
@@BoredManOutdoors haha yes, the walking definitely takes some fun out of it. I’ve loved my camping trips so far in my life and look forward to many more. Visiting Scotland would be a dream!
That grey day looks heaven to me mate
Thank you... Very moody and very lovely 😊
@@BoredManOutdoors I’d rather have that than London where I’m working
Great stuff Jim. You captured the magic of the island and i hope you felt it too, even though youre an experienced island bagger. Something about it draws me back for a camp and kayak every year. Camping by the castle headland is one of my favourite summer spots. It also has some lovely sheperdesses tending the haggi too...just sayin...
Reaaaaaaally... This is just in summer - for the haggis herding season? I must return Andrew.. 😉.. Aye, I really enjoyed the trip and would like to return to do the small hills on the island.. Maybe an autumn return... Post midge.. Thank you Andrew. 🤜🤛
Nice one Jim,
Great stuff (as always)
May not have been the very best weather for it, but certainly wasn't the worst.
Those sheep seemed more curious than nervous, (maybe the earrings mean they're in a gang 😆) as for the Kerrera Chestnut Haggis... I've no idea, I've only ever eaten Haggis, (just the once, a long time ago, but would try again mind)
Thanks for sharing your wee adventure.
Take care
All the best
(a tired after a long walk) D & B 👍 😴
Lads... Great to hear from you as always... Sheep in a gang... Never crossed my mind... but you could be right.. bet under all that wool there were tattoos... 🤔... That Chestnut Haggis must have been 12 inches tall - no higher... I still don't know what it was.. no clue but it wasn't bothered at all by me or the GoPro up it's nose... Lovely to hear you've been ootnboot... You'll sleep well tonight... Thank you pals... 😎😎😎 Jim
Amazing nature, would love to visit some day😍 You inspire to me go out in nature more👍
Thank you for your lovely message... That is great to hear... 👍👍👍
Love your glasses! Wish I could do this, but being immunosuppressed and getting pneumonia from camping isn't fun 😄 maybe one day, for now I'll enjoy these videos
No, definitely not the place to be in winter but.... In the warmer months, out in all that fresh air, away from people... Maybe 🤔.. ☺️
This is why I like your videos Jim. You're always showing different and interesting things. Looked a great trip over there. The views looked very moody and atmospheric. ATB 👍🏻
Thank you Scott... 🤜🤛😎
Kerrera! That’s easy for you to say! Looked delightful little jaunt, that haggis was a biggun 🤥 the best bit about Scotland is there is no one there, keep em coming Big JKB💪
TtT thank you... Yep, more often than not it's all mine... Everybody is climbing mountains whilst I'm stealing the islands... 👏👏👏👏👏🤜😎🤛
@@BoredManOutdoors you’re like a stealthy island interloper, swapping high climbs for cosy walks, I need timber off to climb up anything 😅
@@titothetroddler I'm not galloping up them and still coming down them like you know who 👉👃.. but still trying to get up hills when I can ... Looking forward to slightly warmer weather to hit the tops. Gotta few more islands planned in... All lovely.... You have muscle memory.. the only thing you're short of us time... 🤷
@@BoredManOutdoors I want to do the uists, Barra and Eriskey, Tiree looks good too.
I’m deffo trying to make time, was going to try get out this weekend coming but it looks proper KAKA so might have skip it 🤔
@@titothetroddler aye, Tiree plotted in and maybe next. Did Coll last year.. what with all those tents and welcome to Tito ... Bit of kaka weather shouldn't stop you chasing a few peas round a plate and washing it doon with a sparkling water.. 😉
💜 from NC. Thank you for such beautiful videos.
Thank you very much 😊😊
Ill come from facebook to here. Looking a good father ini here:)

Nice video sir😊🎉
Thank you 😊
1st thing 1st 😮💨keeping not so good actually seeing as you asked Jim, tore a ligament in my right foot which has put me out the game for a while now 😭Im just hoping if I rest up I can still get the SUW done in late May Fingers crossed 🤞 Another good one mate, keep up the great work & enjoy yourself. 👍
AHH Geo... You need to be careful at your age... 😊. Look after yourself pal... Nothing worse than being laid up... 😌
Amazing 🙌
Beautiful little island 😊😊😊
Has the BBC contacted you to make this a show for them? If not, they have a lot of explaining to do.
Nup - nothing yet.. 😄😄😄😎
Have you ever had a problem with blisters or fungus? And if so, what helps you, or what do you do to prevent it?
Hi there.. blisters.. oh yes... Historically I know where the blisters tent to be, particularly during long hikes. I tend to pop on a little tape to the delicate areas of my feet and toes. Recently, I have tried to reduce the tape and toughen up the skin... A little at a time... It is slowly working... I'm also trying Altra footwear which is roomy.. 👍👍👍
I found your page on Instagram ❤.
Hi there 😄😄😄
I love listening to you while i´m in the kitchen cooking or baking. Beautiful channel you have! greetings from Norway!
Thank you very much... Hello Norway 👋👋👋👋
What a lovely place, and I absolutely love this misty atmosphere! I would love to visit this island)
Thank you for the video!
Thank you very much..I hope you get chance to visit soon. 😊
Hailing from Caledonia that’s on the other side of the world in Michigan 😀. Could you tell a bit about camping rules in UK in one of the videos (unless you touched on the subject already)? Sounds different from US where unorganized camping is allowed only on National Forest areas, but you are in pretty populated areas it seems
Hello there... Yes, I would be very happy to discuss the camping access here in the UK... Thank you very much for your lovely message.... I hope you're doing well. 😊😊😊
Kerrera looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing another lovely video 😄⛺️
Thank you 👍

That kerrera chestnut haggis was absolutely adorable. But i can't find anything on them online, just the recipe (haggis). Would love to know more about the sheep.
Also I absolutely love the views. I spent a couple months last year travelling through the UK with my campervan and dog, and I feel like I missed all the good spots seeing your videos. Any tips for hikes with a dog (that is unable to pass stiles)? I'm definitely planning on coming back and exploring more of the beautiful environment.
Hi Joey.. thank you. In the majority of my travels up here, certainly in the West, there are very few if any styles here.. lots of gates and very much dog friendly... Have a look through others videos to see great routes (+ Mine)... Scotland is very campervan and dog friendly... You'll both love it... 🐶🐾❤️
Just catching up after a long long work week here, this looks like a delight. Do you run into other campers very often? Do you make an effort to pitch up out of eyesight of others when you do find folks?
Hiya. I do meet other campers on the trail. I would always camp with a little space between us. Sometimes there is only one place, so I would move on. When hiking the Skye Trail, I went to sleep with just one offer tent near me, by morning, there were six more . ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Beautiful, do you think you will ever travel out of Europe and goto other countries?
Hi there. I really would like to explore further afield, hopefully I'll get a little more time when I retire 😄
@@BoredManOutdoors Awesome, thanks for letting me know!
Nice insight into Kerrera , wouldn’t mind having a nosey
Thinking about swapping out my lanshan 2pro for the x-mid, is yours the mesh inner and the 2p
Hi there.. mine is the Pro 1, single skin with mesh.. I like the tent a lot. The Durston solid is very good value. 👍👍👍
The sheep would have run for their lives, if you had turned up wearing Aberdeen FC colours. Joking aside, great video.
Ah, right.. like sheep up there 😁
Silly question, how tall are you, and do you do anything to keep your knees in proper working order?
Hi there. I'm 5' 10". I have had loads of problems with my knees especially when descending the hills.. I have found that regularly outings, up and down, keep the legs and knees conditioned. I also started to use walking poles about 5 years ago which help a lot. I hope that helps? 😊😊😊
