As someone who was an everyday smoker for a few years, I have recently decided to quit/DRASTICALLY slow down. I am noticing withdrawal symptoms that I never knew about bc everyone is like "Oh weed is only mentally addictive but not physically addictive at all". I have been getting horrible night sweats (if I can even fall asleep), absolutely no appetite, an increase in anxiety, and irritability. After 3 days it got better but I still notice withdrawal symptoms, especially the insomnia and night sweats. But honestly its worth it IMO,.I have a much clearer head and am more productive if I am able to sleep the night before.

Mental addiction withdrawal creates physical addiction withdrawal symptoms.
Mental addiction doesn't mean that you are magically safe from withdrawal.
As someone who smokes every day, I am very aware that I'm mentally addicted to smoking pot. I'm not overly concerned as I'm literally a doctor's visit away from getting a medical card to approve what I'm doing (I also live in a state where you need a legitimate disease or ailment to get a medical card, I just can't also be a licensed security official while being a medical card Holder.)

I have been struggling with chronic pain for about 6 months because of an autoimmune attack on my nerves. I was smoking every day because I had to. It was a god sent for me because I had never smoked until I was hurting so bad one day and my buddy smoked me up. Instant relief, the pain wasn’t there at all. I finally am getting better after months of pain and have quit smoking. Two weeks after stopping my grades in college increased, my productivity increased, Ive felt less depressed. Although the depression could have been from the pain honestly. There’s no doubt that there is some adverse effects.

One side effect I have experienced for years is that I hallucinate on it. That mainly why I don't do it. I have severe OCD which can cause paranoia, intrusive thoughts which are similar to delusions but you can reason out that they are not real and it can cause you to be obsessive about things. That being said, I could potentially have something else I'm not aware of. None of it was laced. I get that comment all the time when I bring this up. "You're not smoking real shit. That's laced. That's not real weed." I can promise with one hundred percent certainty that it is real, not laced and not anything other than pure weed. Now that that's out of the way, my hallucinations can be described as similar to an intense dose of a psychedelic. I hear voices, see creatures and events that are not happening and it's extremely hard to figure out if it's real or fake. My first time smoking at 16, I had an out of body experience and talked incoherently to everyone around me all night long. I spoke with a spinning 4d cube like thing which told me it was God and that time was an illusion and nothing was real and this was all a basically the matrix. I spoke to spirits who told me about the afterlife and I felt like I was gone for a decade. Every time after that I had very vivid experiences where I'd basically go in and out of consciousness and enter a psychedelic realm. Not making this up. I don't do it because I can't function on it and it's scary beyond belief. Why that happens I can't find out anywhere. I only found a small group that talks about this on the internet but it went inactive about seven years ago. If anyone has an explanation for me or had similar experiences, I'd love to hear it.

I'm not a doctor but you a may have a higher than average chance of developing paranoid schizophrenia. Probably a good idea to stop smoking weed altogether as people who show signs of developing schizophrenia are more prone to drug psychosis with even the smallest amount of thc. Your experiences isn't all uncommon for your average weed user when they take a high dose of thc but considering you have these experiences every time indicates why you may have the potential to devoloping schizophrenia. Sounds like you have a good awareness of your mental state so nothing to super worry about but I'd still say bring this up with a therapist is a good idea, just so your aware warning signs of it developing it in the future. As I understand it weed can put you high state of paranoia which can be a great tool as gives you a different perspective of the world and yourself, which leads to one being more introspective (I personally love this head space and joe Rogan is a classic example of this as well. Though for people like yourself, your mind is probably better at organising itself (which I'm sure you attest to can be detrimental at times). As your mind prefers that be in that state of order once you throw the paranoia from weed in there, it tends to focus on the paranoia more so than most which can induce fear which just then feeds into the paranoia which feeds back into the fear. it's that cycle of fear into paranoia and back that causes drug psychosis. Which can happen to anyone with heavy drug usage but with paranoid schizophrenics they are more prone to getting stuck in that loop. Just think about it like how people who have underlying heart conduction have to be careful of strenuous exercise as it may exacerbate their condition further, you may have a underlying mental condition that maybe exacerbated with weed use. But if you have enough self awareness to cope with Your OCD you should be good man and if your every not hopefully you think about this and be like "that dickhead in the RUclips comments was right, FUCK THAT I know how get myself out of this". Not trying to scare you with the whole reefer madness speel but just wanted to make ya more aware.

These realities are very true after becoming an avid smoker while trying to cope with my sisters death, and a motorcycle accident( 4months later) that left me with a broken back, ribs, pelvis, collapsed lung etc… that left me alone in the woods as close to death as I’d ever want to be again, followed by 7days in the hospital, the in the ICU, not knowing if I would ever walk again.. All of this without contact with my family due to covid... I have to say there are some amazing benefits for the plant. It really did help me get off of pain killers during my recovery, and also honestly believe that it helped me get back on my bike and riding again, despite having some very strong PTSD from the incident. So I have to say I will always have a love for weed.

I use it for GAD, because it was that or lexapro. Which a doctor actually suggested it as an alternative. So nobody use my case as a standard, I have had doctors completely aware of my usage amount and habits, and they suggest I keep course instead of harder psychological drugs.

I used to smoke a lot more than I do now. I used to hit the bong before work, smoke on break, come home from work and smoke etc. Being high during the day is nice but as Josh said motivation dips, I get lazy, I just want to go home and go to bed. Now that I limit myself to only smoking at home at the end of the day really makes me enjoy it a lot more and I feel way more relaxed and euphoric.

It could be I’m just in an illegal state so I can’t find top tier gas all the time, but as someone who consumes multiple times a day... I personally never get the direct negative effects, the being “de attached” all the time. Don’t get me wrong it 100% makes me more lazy and I’ll put things off to just play videos or something. But with that being said I feel like I never get too too high because of such high THC tolerance. While I don’t feel the in your face positive and negative effects as much, the latent laziness and “content with your situation” is 100% more prevalent.

I smoke a lot every day but the time argument is so odd to me, I wouldn't be more productive if I didn't smoke because I wouldn't suddenly do productive things, if I want to be productive being high has never stopped me. Hell at times it helps me ignore other thoughts distracting me and let me just do whatever need to be done that day. If anything money is why I would stop, I spend way too much on the stuff. I do think it is extremely addictive though, and I hate weed culture.

i find it the same as like any medication, adhd for example if you start having bad side effects you either do some tests so the doctor can find out or lower / raise / switch meds
the only difference is there’s only a couple truly regulated thc variants so if you start to experience bad side affects there isn’t too much of an alternative compared to the like 20+ stimulants, adhd pills make me depressed when im not on it, doesn’t mean it’s a bad medication, the same thing with weed just because you start having negative effects (literally every drug has negative side effects)
treat weed like medication especially if it helps you, i have intense anxiety and it helps a shit ton more convenient than shitty ass scripts that are monitored by every fed ever because they swear everyone abuses their drugs
it’s weird how some people still are shamed for using what is literally a medicine, just like joey who got negative affects from adderal, doesn’t mean the drug is bad which a lot of more casuals still kinda look at weed negatively (i especially hate the guys who swear it’s bad because the first time they had a bad experience and never tried it again but still thinks his opinion matters when he took it once)
it’s quite simple smoke weed, gain self introspection skills so it doesn’t take over your life (aka be a little mature) and if you start having bad effects and it’s not worth it anymore? just quit, why does every former stoner have to tell everyone about how it helped your life, a lot of those guys are ignorant too the type that always thinks their right because of his one personal experience out of millions
why don’t people bitch about pills being addicted… oh wait we did and absolutely nothing changed, history most likely will repeat, the only true negative to me is dosing it is very client dependent and the doctor kinda just has to trust their patient to use responsibly
weed starting to have a bad affect on you? quit just like you would with prozak but for some reason every stoner needs to know about the positives of quiting

Smoking weed all the time is great, but you are definitely not functioning at peek performance. You end up with things harder to remember, you get forgetful, you lose stuff more often, your reaction time isn't as good and all in all you could give a fuck less. As long as you keep your priorities in check getting high is fine. The problem with weed, alcohol or any other substance is when you are using for emotional distress, That is when things get out of hand recreational use is fine, but when life isn't going well is when you are high risk for substance abuse.
