Asi Wind: What Magic & Mind Reading Reveal About the Brain

  • In this episode, my guest is Asi Wind. He's one of the world’s top magicians and mentalists.
    We discuss what magic and mentalism reveal about the human mind, including how memories are made, how to erase them, and how and why we perceive things the way we do, all in the context of how he performs his astonishing tricks.
    Asi explains that magic works because it involves storytelling, which is key to how we organize memories. He also explains how emotional connection allows people to co-create and believe a common narrative, even one that did not actually occur.
    We also discuss how Asi's love of painting and photography and his specific daily routine allow him to access creativity. We also discuss fear, perfectionism, and how feeling emotions deeply serves his craft.
    Whether you are interested in magic or not, this conversation with Asi will give you an incredible window into how you perceive, learn, and remember the world around you and how what you believe may or may not be based in reality.

    Dr. Huberman, turns out you and I have even more in common than what I had thought. We both come from a punk rock background. A couple years ago I almost died from complications from bipolar disorder. Without your protocols I would likely not be alive, or would not be where I am today. Additionally to following your protocols, I have been working with a sponsor in a 12 steps program to manage my sexual addiction. I have had great results. I am hoping you get the healing you need and I only wish the best for you. Thank you for all you have done for me.

    • @AdamWeisshaupt
      @AdamWeisshaupt Месяц назад +3

      I think it is time that you help him. It seems that you have mastered your addiction. He has not, if the rumors are true. But I think we should not judge him for that like he did not judge his audience for mistakes and addiction.
      To be attracted to different kind o women is called the coolidge effect. That is the natural programm of the DNA, if you are not balanced in your base chakra , how it is called in Eastern teaching. That is the same as Malkut(one of the sephiroth) in Jewish/Christian or earth element in Western teaching.
      If you are balanced you programm your sexual attraction as I understood it. I was kind of baited by the title, I thought he talks about real magic and the topics that I mentioned.

    • @SalvationLife
      @SalvationLife Месяц назад +2

      I have certainly not mastered my addiction, I am only in a program and have had success in my recovery from compulsive sexual or romantic activities and am involved in a program that supports this. I will always have these addictions, I will only manage them. I could not help Andrew, other than to tell him he is not alone and there are so many other of us who have similar complications, we have made a mess of our lives in regards to sex and relationships, but there is a way out of this lie we have created.

    • @AdamWeisshaupt
      @AdamWeisshaupt Месяц назад

      @@SalvationLife I think the topic is interesting., because a lot of people struggle with it. I am not sure what is the perfect behaviour. But I think both kinds of extremes are negative. There are people that dont want to have sex and are celibate and people that have too much sexual energy. So it would be interesting to research the stuff. I read stories about people that try to be celibate and ended up sleeping with goats (not sexual just sleep in the same bed as goats). They ended up having all kind of strange behavior. I wish you luck and hope you achieve what your goal is.

    The part about guiding attention was really fascinating. Some coaches do this very well also. The first time I met with a coach, I went on for about 10 minutes about a challenge I was having at work. She listened patiently and then asked "how can you maximize this opportunity?" Her question stopped me in my tracks as it wasn't what I was expecting, but what she did was brilliant. It directed my attention to solutions instead of the problem, which was helpful as I sometimes laser focus on the problem. To this day that is still one of my favorite questions.

    Having worked in the motor industry many years ago, I was taught to question customers in a particular way. This would guide their responses, really quite accurately. I discovered that Ford, for example, would get approximately 400 pieces of information from a prospective customer before selling them the car of their dreams...a Ford ...if they didn't have enough money for a Ferrari. It's scary. I have never driven a Ford incidentally but the point is that we're all subject to ' magic' without even realising. Take a look around your home, what have you bought without intending to? I'm guessing quite a bit🤔

    Dr. Huberman I just read the article about you and I'm still staying in our "cult." As the article implies haha
    So you made some mistakes and your opps came after you. You're human and if anything it makes you more relatable. I've made too many mistakes to count. Why would I judge your personal life when I am human too. It sucks that your personal affairs are out in the public and that some people will judge you because of that but that is just something we all do. We make mistakes and we deal with the outcome of our decisions. That's being a human. Don't stop what you're doing with your podcast's. You're human and deserve compassion and empathy as does every other human being does.

    Am I correct in thinking that when Asi Wind says “you are the co-author of the trick / experiment”, he sort of refers to “the Heisenberg effect” (= the very act of observation directly alters the phenomenon under investigation)?
    I am reading “The Dark Side of the Inner Child: The Next Step” by Stephen Wolinsky, and he refers to the same effect when talking about our perception / illusion of reality.
    Whether I’m right or wrong, I really loved this episode. It does provide a lot of food for thought, and I’m sure it’ll make many people change the way they see the game of life.

    I do think the most beautiful and different and unique of this episode, is not only how two people are sharing knowledge and exploring forms of expresión and how mind works but algo the emotions as part of it. When he speaks he just liberate this huge passion he has for art even more than for magic and how this immersed him in who he is. People call it to romantics life but really our experiences make us who we are and this episode is just such an amazing way to spend my time and confirm what I believe about how huge we are and our mind is but how important is pasión, emotions and expression to feel alive. Thank you both. Such a great episode !

While i am not much of a religious man, but following the protocols religiously is the key, especially the one about light-viewing behavior, that one alone was the biggest game changer in my stack. If you are not working past 10 pm, sleeping is the best choice you can make and to help with making that choice consistently your light viewing and eating behavior needs to be dialled in. I learned it from Andrew Huberman, it has massively changed my life.
