Just picked up my Orca today. Unfortunately, I only got to do a short test ride. I can tell straight out that it doesn't have the pure speed factor that my aero Fuji Transonic does. I'm definitely not going to win any crit races any time soon, but it's still plenty fast with your power instantly reaching the road, and it rides like an absolute dream.
Climbing is great but once at the top you gotta descend too. Plus gearing is a big factor for making a climb feel easy vs hard. So what bike / setup is great for 8-10 degree mile long climbs, and like rails on the descents? Dogma F, Cervelo R5, Specialized SL8? Or still the ones from this video?
Missing the Daddy of the disk break lightweights the Specialized Aethos. Most of these frame weights match or are heavier than the second tier 10r carbon frame.
the common theme seems to be hidden cables (the TCR will have those as well in the 2024 model), so the Aethos is not, according to the theme, 'hot' in 2024... (but yes, it's about 150-200 grams lighter than other frames).
@@garrynewton6213 I’m old enough to know that you had to spend a fair chunk of money to get a rim brake bike under 6.2kg back in the day also so don’t be too precious about the whole braking mechanism thing.
Why no Bianchi? The Specialissima 2024 model just got released a few months ago with availability in January and it's also 6.6kg or less for the RC model.
@brentcollins9727 Enjoy dude. I have last rim brake version AR FRD 2019. 8050 di2 with Winspace Hyper 65 wheels and Enve aero cockpit. Amazing machine. Felt is criminally underrated brand IMO.
Most of the video wasn’t of the model they were talking about. The TCR SL just has 2 hydraulic lines exposed. Whether that is good or bad depends on whether you have to work on the bike as a mechanic or not.
A climbing bike that "saves 12 Watts at 48 kph (30 mph)"? Not even Grand Tour winners climb that fast! And who TF needs a width adjustable handlebar with extra weight and predeterminded breaking points built in? Stop the bullshit marketing.
These* are only western (brand) bikes made in the Far East (China, Taiwan, Inonesia) using Japanese-made carbon fiber equipped with Japanese (Shimano) or Taiwan-made (Sram) components. So what are you complaining about?
What would be your ultimate climbing bike?
None, climbing doesn't interest me at all; descending is another matter......
Aethos
TCR
Aethos.
Cube or canyon✌🏼🥂
the CUBE is amazing. I was never fan of the brand, but they did so much to unify aero and light weight and it was unevitable for me to want this bike.
Orbea looks simplest and coolest. I'll go with Orca
Giant TCR with Shimano 105 Di12 12 speed and carbon wheels for US$3,500 is a great value. The shifters are wireless cleaning up the cockpit.

Great post, would love to see the addict rc upgrade soon.
Previously I was riding a Canyon and now sitting on a Cube Air SLT. I don't regret it. The bike is fantastic!
Cube is a piece of art !
As I’ve just bought an Orca, that has to have my vote.
Favorite is aethos and don’t understand how you missed it!!!! Mine is 6.5kg in 56cm with pedals and bottle cages. It is such a pleasure to ride
FACTOR looks amazing . I'll go with the VAM 02
I would choose the CUBE out of these 5. But I ordered a SL8 for next season.
I want to see a new Trek Emonda. That Cube had the coolest paints tho

My tarmac SL8 is 6.17 with 50mm wheelset. Will be under 6 once the new handlebar arrives.
6.17 what? Kilograms?
i dont think so.🤨
Why no Bianchi Specialissima? Love the look of the cube lightning
Scott Addict RC needs to go super light now with that Foil RC overhaul.

😮
*Disc Brake!

i have an aethos....i guess bikeradar thought the Press release didnt sound exotic so wasnt worth repeating

Sworks Aethos ❤
Cervelo R5 would be the bike I would like to see an update from. Probably another year out though
S Works Aethos

Probably because their bikes don't look like bikes anymore 🙁
so heavy ... kkk 55size frame weight 900g... same aero frame
They didn’t pay enough to be included in the list..
Interesting information. But the music behind is horrible !
You forgot the winning bike of all grand tours. Cervelo R5.
please review the Cube litening air
Emondaaaaaaaaaaa
Hopefully an update for 2024!
I cannot climb fast, but i often get over 24 per cent climbs. Mine you, i drop super fast
The Factor and Canyon bikes have been my top choice for years, but how can any lightweight climbing list not include the Aethos?
Factor and Canyon bikes* (...) how can* a* lightweight climbing bike* list ...
What about the non sero or eaing Speclized Aesthos ?
"non sero or eaing"?? Specialized* Aethos* - Pay attention when typing!
Felt FR FRD
I loved my F3 with Dura Ace and Easton wheels.

Few bikes out there are better looking than the trek Emonda!
Cool. Now how about affordable bikes?
TOTAL COMPACT ROAD IS STILL THE GOAT!
Trinx road bike
Love the TCR, but the spaghetti cables makes me want to throw up.
Why does that TCR have so many cables running everywhere? How many cables does that bike need?
It doesn't need any batteries for sure.
2024 model will feature hidden cables.
I almost bought that bike in late 2020, but with the way you said about the bike, you'll never figure out what my reason was.
Most of the video wasn’t of the model they were talking about. The TCR SL just has 2 hydraulic lines exposed. Whether that is good or bad depends on whether you have to work on the bike as a mechanic or not.
Shakespeare resurrected from the grave to boost the bicycle industry. 😂
Where is BMC teammachine?
No really concidered to be a lightweight category bike.
where is emonda which is king of the mountain in TDF23 :))) bs

Canyons tan walls aren’t working. #wagon
Pro-tip: Lose weight off your body for best results.
What if I'm already 60kg 5'9?
@@xfg007 Yeah, if you are already lean, then you will really benefit from a lightweight bike for sure.
P
WHAT ABOUT WINSPACE? THIS IS SO SHIT, this are only western bikes, fucking capitalism
