I explained the meaning to side one of "Darkside of the Moon" on her reaction to side one if you want to read that first. As I said on the first side, this album takes a person's life from birth until death. After listening to the feeling that you never have enough "Time" in the day or in life in general and exploring the fear of death in "Great Gig in the Sky", Roger Waters then wrote about "Money" and the fear of never having enough money, but working hard to have it even though it is considered to be bad to be too greedy, but rarely willing to give any of it away. Then we move into "Us and Them", which explores war and how there are generals ordering people under their command on both sides to fight and kill each other when the people fighting each other on opposite sides have more in common with each other than the generals ordering them to fight. But out of a feeling of patriotism they hate each other because they are not on their side. Now our character is experiencing more of life in "Any Colour You Like" and eventually comes to "Brain Damage" where he is coming across people who think completely different than him like the lunatic who is on the grass even though the sign says to stay off the grass, which doesn't make sense since grass is made to be walked on and the lunatic is showing him that he should not stay on the path because grass is made to be walked on and he has always followed the rules, causing confusion as to what to do. Then he talks about the lunatics in his hall in the newspaper that holds their folded faces to the floor and everyday the paperboy brings more. These lunatics are now in his head, they raise the blade and make the change in how he is thinking and rearranging his thinking until he realises these lunatics are right and now he is finally sane. Waters also is talking of their previous band mate, Syd Barrett, who suffered from Schizophrenia and did too much LSD and lost his marbles and was a brilliant singer and songwriter before losing his mind and is also one of those lunatics who showed them different ways of seeing the world as well. But now our character finally understands what is truly important in life and expresses those epiphanies in life in "Eclipse". He finally gets it at the end of his life and then he dies as his heart beat slowly fades out.
The moon does not shine. Whichever half is pointed toward Earth is reflecting the sun's light back at us. The other half is in total darkness. There really is no Dark Side of the Moon as the voice says at the end... "as a matter of fact it's all dark" (but for the sun). The moon only shines because of the sun, as we do. We are only living because of the sun energy, but when our times passes, all is left is our dead body, and the ''light'' that used to give us energy will be gone, lefting behind only dust. As a metaphore, we are the moon. We shine when alive, but we return to our dark state the time death reach us. The dark side of the moon is an illusion that makes the human being think humanity is something bigger than the nature around us, but in reality we are only part of it. We are only dust from the beggining. The thing that make us live and that give us energy is the nature, and the sun. When the album ends, you can hear a slow heartbeat untill it stops completely. That lunatic person from Brain Damage was expecting to see the dark side of the moon, but he concluded it was all dark, wich means he died.
Yesssss!!!! Definitely do Meddle in it's entirety. It was the previous album before Dark Side of the Moon, when they found their signature sound. The whole album is just great. Check it out.

24:57 What you are feeling & trying to say, Yes, that is the Reaction that we ALL have experiencing this album for the first time! It's definitely hard to explain but it IS an emotional experience in my opinion.
Great reaction Jayy. It truly is an experience! I was fortunate enough to see them perform the whole album live in Liverpool, England , in 1972, when I was an 18 year old student! I love Queen, Led Zeppelin... but Pink Floyd will always be my favourite band of all time.
Pink Floyd interview , said Clare Torry heard the music to Great gig in the sky and ask her to come up with something on here own, she went in and sang what you just heard, “ FIRST TIME, ONE TAKE “. She asked to do it again, they said NO, it was perfect. Absolutely INCREDIBLE ! This is TRUE, and it makes what you hear even more AMAZING.
One of the ways they made the money sounds was by throwing a load of nuts and bolts into a food mixer. The clocks going off was an tech demo the producer had made for his own amusement previously. There is a subtle pitch bend on the long last note of "The Great Gig In The Sky" where they pinched the recording tape with fingers to slow it down which made the playback bend up. They did all kinds of crazy things.
Hal, you are onto something. I agree and I've decided it's fantastic that we enjoy it so much. It means we're good. We have decent hearts. We like seeing people happy.
They soothe you, they hypnotize you, they calm you and then they grab you by the balls. They have their way of first positioning you to be open and be able to let it all in. And by all they mean ALL.
Rewatch Crew checking in P.S. PLEASE do the "Wish You Were Here" album review (in 2 parts of course). It's the natural progression of the Floyd Experience. You and your fans won't be disappointed. Great reaction vibes there.
You can't imagine what it means to someone who grew up with this album to see your reactions and emotions... It felt like i was hearing it for the first time. Believe me, I rode that rollercoaster with you. Thank you
I can't describe it, I don't even know myself. But since I first listen to this album when I was 13 or something ~1989, it almost instantly became my favorite album. It took me some time to dig into it (I'm French, I was a kid), but it has been "with me" for all those years. In high school I had a "Walkman" and a tape with this album on the one side and Wish you were here on the other one (both being just below 45mn it was fitting on a full face of a 90mn tape), and I was listening to this tape in loop (thanks "autoreverse") with my headphones, on the bus to school, in my bed to sleep (and woke up to turn of the Walkman in the middle of the night), later at job, I was heavily listening to music, this album was played at least 2 times a day, everyday, for YEARS. And I still listen to it regularly, maybe not many time a day (I watch RUclips reactions ;) ). Anyway, it's a kind of magic (Freddie would have said), this album is special. They did something they themselves didn't realize at the time I believe, and it might still be over their head, for the one still living. I think it's like "Life"... Sometimes in the Cosmos, in "Space Time", something magic happen, the actor of the magic don't even know. The molecules didn't know about life, yet Life appeared from molecules... Pink Floyd are great musicians and artist each one of them, but "together" (And their team), they did something which went far beyond what they thought they had made... Not sure that my sentences are clear, as I'm French, my long explanation can be clumsy :). Anyway great reaction, enjoy your future "revisiting" this album. And have a good musical "theatrical journey" on "Wish you were here", "Animals" and "The Wall". Bests.
For a trippy sound and visual experience, check out Dark Side of the Rainbow, or Dark Side of Oz, which are The Wizard of Oz with the soundtrack replaced with Dark Side of the Moon. Seeing the Munchkins dance to classic Pink Floyd really says it all.
“...lunatic?” Lunatic is from the Latin for moon. It stems from the belief that people’s behavior are affected by the phases of the moon, like the tides. Full moons would bring out the craziness in people. They were still hurting from the loss of their band’s founder and leader, Syd Barrett, who took too many drugs and exacerbated his mental health condition (schizophrenia), so mental illness is a recurrent theme in their music. There are so many layers to this music, I hope you continue to explore . Enjoy!
Shame to make it 421 comments but thought id say. Jayy try the Division Bell. A lot of Floyd fans turn their nose up at that because the band had split then but musically its a beautiful album too. Have a great Christmas and stay safe girl 👍👌🤗

The great hallucination in our heads...
Brain damage is centred on Syd, his disintegration: the lunatic on the grass is Him!
There’s a handful of bands from The Rolling Stones to Queen to Pink Floyd that stand the test of time. Their music will never die.
I think there’s more than a handful , but I understand what you’re saying mate 👍
Queen?? Not in the same league mate
@@adamsmith307 ong Queen overrated asf
Lets not forget about Led Zepp!
Let’s not forget about Radiohead either
Pink Floyd always takes you on a journey in your mind to some other place.
This Album is Life. ❤️So fun watching u accept and absorb and feel it the way it’s meant to be . Not question it . Just feel it and live it and experience the magic that leaves everyone speechless and floored upon every listen . I can honestly say I’ve heard this album over 100 times . Am still moved and in awe of every note and every line and every goosebump I get during each listen . Thanks for the joy of watching u feel Floyd ✔️
I loved your reaction to Us and Them. Getting into the chill grove, and going full wide eyed with surprise during the busier parts. As it should be.
The backing singers were a mixed quartet of British and American singers.
The album in a constant cycle with heartbeat at the beginning and on the fade out at the end. A masterpiece album that stayed in the top 200 on the album bilboard charts for 17 years or 700 consecutive weeks . The most of any album, even the Beatles didn't come close.
Jayy , love your Reactions .. first heard " dark side of the moon " when i was 15 , now 62 and is still One of the best Albums i have in my collection .. Masterpiece .
There's my sub. 😎 "Us and Them" hit you EXACTLY how it me the first time too, girl. And then you got to "Eclipse" and I KNEW.
Welcome to the club! There is no dark side of the moon, really. Matter of fact, its all dark....
Yeah, I wasn’t gonna stay long, but I wound up buying the ticket and taking the ride😂. Thank you!🌹
I love the moment you fell into a dream while listening to Us and Them.
Strange how much I enjoy somebody listening to this for the first time.
Hal, you are onto something. I agree and I've decided it's fantastic that we enjoy it so much. It means we're good. We have decent hearts. We like seeing people happy.
Try pink floyd the wall the movie to that is cool as well
RIP Richard Wright.
And of course RIP Sid Barrett.
That's why it stayed in the charts for about 100yrs. It's probably still there.
Yes! You had all the right thoughts and emotions! I'm old and this came out when I was your age, it was a great time to be alive, musicly speaking!
They soothe you, they hypnotize you, they calm you and then they grab you by the balls. They have their way of first positioning you to be open and be able to let it all in. And by all they mean ALL.
Jesus.
@@blakenokomis1573 yes?
You'll never forget your first time.
“dark side of the moon” meaning the far side of the moon is the side we cannot see from earth… it’s basically referring to the unknown.
Musicians being the best they can.
Was waiting for the tears to start flowing. Can be very emotional.
Rewatch Crew checking in
P.S. PLEASE do the "Wish You Were Here" album review (in 2 parts of course). It's the natural progression of the Floyd Experience. You and your fans won't be disappointed. Great reaction vibes there.
Saw them so many times as a teenager, when ever they were in LA, l was there! Imagine seeing them in concert, on acid😜🤟 l'll never forget ✌😄
You can't imagine what it means to someone who grew up with this album to see your reactions and emotions...
It felt like i was hearing it for the first time. Believe me, I rode that rollercoaster with you.
Thank you
I loved your genuine reaction. It’s an experience listening to Pink Floyd. Listen to The Wall and more. Keep going. Awesome
The great Gig in the sky wasn't sung by any of the band members but by the guest singer Clare Torry. A great and amazing voice, isn't it?
And to think after the take, she apologised to the band members cos she thought she’d screwed up. They were simply amazed!
Yup, 😊 pure awesomeness!!
@@jennifermccain6062 I hate when that happens.
It is one of the most iconic albums of all time - love every second of it
Definitely listen to it a few times. You'll find more details pop out at you.
Enjoy!
Life affecting art @Molly Murphy. It's a sad state of affairs sometimes! Thank the universe for 🎶 music!!!

Shame to make it 421 comments but thought id say. Jayy try the Division Bell. A lot of Floyd fans turn their nose up at that because the band had split then but musically its a beautiful album too. Have a great Christmas and stay safe girl 👍👌🤗
Watching the interplay of emotions crossing your face as each new sound hits you, was something else! And you looked shell-shocked at the end, an entirely appropriate reaction to a phonomenon that will probably never be repeated or equalled in the world. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to Floyd come in sit down take your shoes off sit back and we will begin
"There is no dark side of the moon really... As a matter of fact it's all dark."
Her FACE! That is exactly what Pink Floyd is supposed to cause!!! Thank you so much for reacting to this cold. I still would love to see you react to more of their other albums. Which you might have done, and I'll have to look it up.
Anyone trying to explain what they just heard when listening to a Pink Floyd album has exactly this reaction. It's so SEAMLESS! And it is absolutely TRIPPY! Love this reaction!
I really wish I could LIKE this more than once.
The Album hold the record on Billboard 200 album chart with 917 weeks.
I love your reaction. Your hair and the headphones makes it look like you have a Space Helmet on ✌️❣️✌️So beautiful!
Thank you. Love watching the music affect you. Try to think back to my own reactions decades ago to all these old tunes. Time... wow... glad you still have so much. Me, no have so much, but it has been a pretty good ride. Music is such a blessing and magical.
Blessings on you as you still travel through this life no matter how much time we have!!!💕
Yeah, Pink Floyd is known for changing shit up between songs. I love the reaction to that! Love it!
And then she grooves to it. Because that is all you can do.
It is such a great album. There's a reason it spent 15 years on Billboard's Top 100 Albums chart. I'm glad you enjoyed it so hard.

@Jayy..... I love how your thoughts, realizations and emotions are perfectly expressed on your face.... whether they are realizations, or simply joy or sadness.... they are right there :)
Welcome to the early 70’s and my teenage years. So happy to see you enjoying the album and enjoy your trip.
I just heard the complete album with you... after so many years, and I still feel "trippy", exactly like you, Jayy ! Thank you for reacting to the whole album, that gave a an overall good and warm feeling and brought some memories back to me.
Best React EVER! I Love You! Some things cannot be faked, Your reaction is priceless...just like YOU! Keep on Lady! I love watching reacts and I have seen plenty, but you just let it happen, was so priceless...Thank You!
I just came across your channel and I love it. I like that you give genuine assessments of the music and don't come out all shocked because it freaks you out. I have seen other "first time" video's and what do they expect. You go in with an open mind and really allow the music to take you away. I like it very much-thankyou
I first heard this as a teen in the late 80s... and if you'd told me then that 30 years later I'd be reliving the experience vicariously through a pretty woman from LA over the internet, my head would have popped.
Thank you Jayy. Appreciate your commitment. Subscribed :-)
