Placed a Phenom II AMD Phenom II X4 955, 95Watt and a GTX 1050 2GB (Chose the GPU because of NVENC encoder capablity). Result: revived PC and now fit for a OBS streaming project!! Important: T15 screw, dry cloth enough if no Isopropyl alcohol available. CPU must be Deneb architecture. A list of compatible GPU's in the comments..
I just upgraded mine to a quad core for $9.00! these units will support Windows 10 and I use mine as a media server for watching movies... love these old systems.... they will last a lot longer then 10 years.... I also added a Nvidia GeForce 710 2GB video card to mine...

Watched this video and it helped me some so I figured I'd comment with what I was able to figure out. I found out the bios can be updated to 1.17 (you must select your os as Windows 7 x64 on the HP support page to get access). I purchased and installed a b97 processor which I was not able to get working. The bios recognized what it was but would not boot. So I got a b95 and that worked. I upgraded the ram to 16gb (4x4gb) 1600mhz ddr3 which worked with no issue. I also installed an MSI rx560 graphics card which also works perfectly. When purchasing an rx560 be sure to check it doesn't require external power because most rx560 cards do. And lastly I added a 500gb western digital SSD which is used as the boot drive. The computer runs on windows 10. It starts up quick and has no issues running. I have installed pcxs2 emulator for PS2 games for my kids to play and it runs that pretty well. It's also streams 4k movies with no issue. The computer I got for free, the ram was under $50 on Amazon, the graphics card was $40 on ebay, the processor was $15 on ebay, and the SSD I had laying around but I did purchase a bracket with cables for $9 on Amazon. So for right around $100 it has turned out to be a pretty decent setup.
Also figured it might be good to state I have ran multiple things and kept it running for a decent amount of time and have not had any issue with the oem 240w psu.

Just sharing some tests I made with this pc. Updated to latest bios. Phenom ii 955 overclockable version works. Hd 7750, HD 6570, HD 7770, HD 8470, R5 240 works. If the cards are big, I used a pcie riser, with pcie to 6pin power if necessary.

@@HaisteComputerRepair What that's not working: r7 260x with riser cable and pcie to 6pin power adapter cable. Can boot to Windows but cannot have heavy load. Even after when I crank the power all the way to very low amount, and cut half the gpu MHz. I suspect its becuase the pcie power cable have 4 cables instead of the usual 5. Suggestion: you might want to check which refurbish computers can support 75 W to 150 W graphic cards via pcie to 6 pin power cables.

I give advice for those who want to upgrade to Phenom II with 125W TDP (X4 965 BE, X6 1100T, etc). The motherboard supports them and you can even use your computer normally ... BUT! the CPU reaches temperatures around 70 / 73ºC (just starting windows) and the fan goes up at maximum speed and noise. Also unfortunately the HP bios has blocked overcloking. So be careful when buying your CPU

Yep, it was plug and play. My card is plugged into the second PCI from the bottom, so on the case there should be an empty slot below and two above (one dedicated to your VGA, usually above the card). Have you tried all three display ports? VGA, HDMI, and DVI? What operating system do you have installed? Does your card have a fan on the heat sink? Could indicate whether or not it is working. If you can put either Linux or Windows .iso on a usb and try booting from that, that might also load the drivers. Are you open to a reinstall of Windows? Sorry for all the questions, but this will help with troubleshooting. Let me know!

Awesome! Those cards should work fine so long as they are low profile. I had DDR3 1333MHz RAM installed, but 1600MHz should work as well I can test this and get back to you. 2 x 4GB dual channel, 4 x 2GB, 4 x 4GB RAM configurations would all work fine.

@@cjtechreviews It's no problem. Look up any Corsair PSU within that range. They are generally pretty nice and reasonable price wise. You would probably be ok with the existing heat sink and fan combo. You could take a measurement of the fan and search up something different, but maybe test out the system first to see if you really need something different or not.
I put a GTX 750TI in it, oc'd +170core/160mem, This thing runs like a beast!🎉 I have the same exact specs as u for cpu and ram. Though the coil whine is annoying from the PSU 😂

am upgrading my son's 6005 Pro, looking at putting in a GTX 1050Ti low profile card, RAM updgrade and SSD, and eventually a processor upgrade if it bottlenecks... big concern is power though, the GTX1050Ti draws 75W and the PSU is only 250W or something like that, was wondering how much power is left available for a better processor? I think your Quadro card is rated for around 40W and that Phenom II for either 95W or 125W? Am seeing lots of Phenom II X6 on ebay for reasonable, and they are also rated either 95W or 125W. But power calculators already show the above configuration without the CPU upgrade cutting it close. How is your system doing for power, does it cut signal ever?
I have never had a problem with this setup. The 250W power supply worked just fine. Mind you, it was just for work and general use. I only played a game or two on it a few times. I didn't exactly test it to the limits. I would give your setup idea a shot and perhaps think about upgrading the power supply (there are small form factor options) or migrating to a larger case that will allow for a larger power supply to be installed. As well, perhaps a better fan setup for cooling. Either way, let me know how it goes. I think that sounds like a great setup.
Just to follow up on my son's upgrade project (in case anyone reading this is curious): phenom ii x6 is not compatible with the hp compaq motherboard (the Deneb based hex cores are compatible with the AMD785G chipset, but no support from HP Compaq), so no hex core for the little 6005 pro SFF. Waiting for a phenom ii x4 B95 from aliexpress ;) The GTX1050Ti installed no problems, but is seriously CPU bottlenecked with the phenom ii X3 processor it came with. Hopefully an extra core and higher clock helps a bit.

I am running it at a school and letting kids play flash games on it. There is the occasional BSOD, but it's not really an issue worth addressing. Yep, it works just fine. Mind you, I only used it for general tasks and work related things. The only gaming I really did was testing it out. If you were to upgrade the graphics card to something that required more power, then a different PSU would be needed. Otherwise, reference the card you want to use on a site like techpowerup.com and find out if you need the extra power or not.
It should work perfectly fine, though a lot of people seem to have issues installing GPU's into this model. I didn't have any issues, so I would still at least recommend a GT 1030.
I installed Win 10 using the Win 7 product key shipped on the tower case. I used the Microsoft installation media from their website here: www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10. I haven't tried UEFI yet personally, so I can't confirm beyond parroting what something online says. Hope that helps :)

I am not certain, but try looking up that cpu on CPU World's website and compare it to the one in this video. Phenom II X4 945. They are both socket AM3, but I am unsure if it will match this motherboard at the moment. I would have to do more research.
I recently upgraded to a x4 630 95w but even with a custom dissipator and cooler, the power supply fan starts to sound like mad and also temperatures from the motherboard and the cpu gets above 70C°. Any recommendations? Thank you, nice video.

You could try installing some exhaust fans at the rear like this: tinyurl.com/yckk2bs5 I'm not sure about extra fan headers on the motherboard, check to see if there is one. I will have to look at a manual or picture as I no longer have a PC like this. 70 degree C isn't so bad. Not overheating, at least. Your PC will survive.
Take a look at Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc on your keyboard. Go to the Perfomance tab and look at your CPU info. Or, download CPUZ www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html In my general use/work station PC, I have an AMD A8 PRO-7600B R7 CPU that Task Manager lists as having two cores instead of 4. CPUZ corrects this info. Try this first and then get back to me, if you like :)

I bought this computer at a steal, a thrift store. Clean inside with a refurbished sticker. I run Linux, Ubuntu-Mate next to the Windows OS. Amazing, I guess when they refurbished they 'downsized' the speed performance AMD Athlon II X2 B26, with a slower energy efficient AMD Sempron 145. The HP 6005 Compaq Pro SFF didn't come out with the Sempron. If I run across the original or something close to it, I'll go with that. thx!

Hello. I was given a HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor and I was wanting to use it to play Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition. What kind of hardware would you recommend I upgrade this desktop with?
Well, first I would ask what your budget is. You can easily sink a few hundred dollars into this desktop if you have the money. First, I would recommend upgrading to 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM. Make sure you have at least one SSD for boot. One for running everything else would be good too. The best CPU from this list of socket types is the Phenom II X4 980. www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X4%20945%20-%20HDX945WFK4DGM%20(HDX945WFGMBOX).html If you can find a low profile 4GB DDR5 graphics card that would be great. Something like this was recommended by pcgamebenchmark.com www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/msi-gtx-1650-low-profile.b7005 A SFF Power Supply upgrade would also help. If you can put together something similar to what I did in the video, it looks like you can still run the game on lower settings. One thing to keep in mind is that you can sell what you replace to make back some of the money. eBay is a good place for this. Unfortunately they take 12% of each sale, so if you go this route make sure you do your due diligence in making sure you don't end up paying more than you take away. Take a look and hit me up with anything you have in mind. Who knows, maybe I would have something to send your way for a good price.
Due to the restrictions of the power supply and it's connecters that don't match up to cable adapters (that I know of) for larger power supplies, you are likely limited to low profile graphics cards that only draw power from the motherboard.
Yes for the SSD. You will just have to do the work involved in either cloning your HDD to an SSD or reinstalling Windows, after installing into the tower. You could change the cooler, but it would need to fit the motherboard and the plastic fan shroud, which helps direct airflow. If you are having some overheating issues, maybe check it out and clean it up. Perhaps reapply thermal paste.

You can change the default in BIOS to use the integrated VGA native to the motherboard, but then you will not be using the graphics card. If your monitor doesn't support DVI or DisplayPort, you can also use an adapter. Let me know if this is the case.

I'm not too sure what graphics card would be the one to max out on. If you have a GTX 1050 ti Low Profile, try it out. I would be curious to know if it works. I imagine it would, however, an upgraded CPU like the one in this video would be a better pair than the one you have installed. The most I've installed in a system like this is a 2GB DDR3 card and it works just fine.
I have an hp 6005 pro small form factor that is about 7-8 years old. Today I smelled an electrical fire ordor and something was running inside constantly at higher noise level than usual, not rattly like a bearing. Suddenly the power went off on the computer and it started making a series of 3 beeps and small red light blinked everytime the sequence of 3 beeps occurred. Looked closer at the back and whiffs of smoke were coming out of the back. I have disconnected all cables and power and opened case but don't see anything burnt looking. Is this most likely a power supply failure? If so, should I be able to get this back up and running by replacing power supply. I might also upgrade the cpu while it is open. I believe RAM is 4 GB. This computer is only used for word processing, spreadsheets, TurboTax -- no gaming. Would it be useful to add some RAM also? Thanks for any advice. John
Have you tried turning it on since? Was it plugged into a surge protector or just the wall outlet? If you can check out the motherboard, look for any traces of black, perhaps where the power supply connects to the board. If it is at all working and you want to upgrade, everything in this video didn't cost too much and it would be a good improvement. Especially with the addition of an SSD. Let me know what troubleshooting you have done since writing this. And first plug it into a surge protector if you can!
I hooked it up to power again. The only thing that happens is a red light above the "light" symbol on front of the case blinks and beeps 4 times. When I push the power button absolutely nothing happensI except the blinking light and beeps continue. I do not see anything burnt on the motherboard or where the power supply connects to the motherboard. The fact that a little smoke was whafting from the back of the case when it first happened made me suspect the power supply. thanks for any input. John

Nice, that's a good idea. I don't think you should worry about replacing the heatsink or CPU fan, unless you are customizing with a new or larger tower case, etc. Unless you're really overworking the system, I'm sure you will be just fine.

@@HaisteComputerRepair Well the 960T I know works from another system. When the processor is plugged in and the computer turned on. No display. Tried reinstalling cpu three times. Then I take out the 960T and installed the athlon 620. Works on first try. Lol. Motherboard Bios is year 2010 one.

Yep, that would essentially be purchasing a different computer. Just make sure it matches your power supply, type of RAM and graphics card if you have one installed. You could probably fit a board into your existing case. What kind of i5 are you looking to install? Perhaps there is an AMD equivalent?

@@HaisteComputerRepair updating you, I recently bought the X4 965 and X6 1100T to test them and it was a complete failure, the computer works correctly but the CPU reaches scary temperatures and testing games like GTA V or DOOM it reaches almost 76ºC unlike my current CPU ( X4 B97) with TDP 95W runs at 38ºC normally and in games it reaches up to 62ºC without increasing the fan speed. In conclusion ... we cannot ignore the recommendations of the motherboard manual! Greetings friend from Colombia

From a quick Google search, I don't see anyone being successful installing an X6 CPU in this HP Compaq Pro. I see, as you said, that it is rated at 125W, while the X4 series are 95W. I think if I had to guess, it would be a no. But, if you ever get the chance to try, let me know how it goes. I could be wrong, too, so keep looking and maybe post to some forums.

Check out the CPU, GPU, and RAM info in the description. Looking up on eBay would probably be the best bet for the CPU. For the RAM, if you can find a deal on any DDR3 1333MHz RAM, go for it. Look for at least 8GB total. For the graphics card, look up any 2GB Low Profile card near equivalent to the Quadro 600. eBay, local buy and sells, etc. Use a site like TechPowerUp to compare. Just google "NVIDIA Quadro 600 techpowerup" (or whatever card you want) to pull up details for comparison to other cards.
You can use a variety of low profile 4GB Graphics cards. Anything you are looking at? GTX 1050 would be good for light gaming. Something like a GT 1030 or AMD Radeon Pro WX3100 for performance boost and workstation use.

Though I no longer have this PC, I believe it supports SATA 2. Still, the speeds were pretty good with the upgrades and, personally, I wouldn't necessarily see a difference for general use.
Do you mean size? The motherboard will fit in both SFF and large cases in terms of where the mounting holes line up. Standard size, if I were to categorize it.
No problem with Windows 10. You can play games the system can handle, but they will either be old games or very light games as the CPU graphics are not capable of much.
I'm certain that would work with the 6005, but the EAH6870 looks like a regular sized card. Unless you migrated over to a larger case or installed a PCI cable extension and modify where you can fit that size of card in a SFF (small form factor) tower case, it won't fit. Unless there is a low profile version of the card? You can definitely find a near equivalent that is low profile.

I would recommend any equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce 210 (1GB) to the GeForce 710 (2GB), depending on what you can find and how much you want to spend. I've installed both and have seen them in action. Both are an improvement, for sure. As for the best and most optimal, I can't speak to that as I have not tried. The 710 is the highest powered option I have tried.

@@lucaogames5199 Look for Low Profile graphics cards. A nice budget choice would be a GeForce GT 710 2GB or equivalent. GT 1030, among others. Depends on what your budget is. Most of these cards will work fine with a 240W power supply. Look up cards on techpowerup.com they do a really good job of providing essential information.
In a system like this HP Compaq 6005, it's capped at 1333MHz. You can still install 1600MHz, but it will run at 1333MHz speeds. It's likely possible to overclock at your own discretion through software.

@@judah5047 If you have an Intel CPU installed, you can't install an AMD CPU. I would look for an Intel Core 2 Quad. Look on that CPU World website to make sure the sockets match for your board.

The AMD Phenom II X4 945 is a pretty solid upgrade that won't affect performance from the stock power supply. Yes, but if you keep the Small Form Factor case you will need to source a low profile card. I don't know if there is a Quadro q2000 low profile version, but there are equivalents. Do you have access to those cards or are you looking to buy? FYI the Quadro would be a much better choice than the GTS 250. There wouldn't be much of a performance increase with the GTS 250, that card would suit an older system better.
If you have the low profile version to fit in this case, yes. Otherwise you would need a larger PC case. Either way, that card would work fine. For the full size card, I believe you need a PCI power plug and you would need to change the power supply or get a SATA to PCI power adapter.
My first question is: do you need to? Are you experiencing high heat coming from the CPU? What kind of activity do you do with your setup? Also, are you asking how to install a CPU cooler? Or change what is already in the tower? Right now, if you have the same tower as this, there is a heatsink and CPU fan on top of the CPU.

Well the X4 is what I installed in this video. The X6 is socket AM3 as with the X4, but I am not sure if this HP motherboard supports it. Will have to do some research

Hello, I had an Hp Compaq 6005 pro MT with atlhon ii x2 b22 so I bought a Phenom ii x4 b95 but the HP Compaq cooler stayed with the coole at maximum speed with a lot of noise.
@@Carloskaiquep I've had this problem where a fan is connected to the SYS_FAN header on a motherboard, but not the CPU Fan. Is there another fan you can test out? Did you reapply thermal paste? Perhaps try uninstalling the CPU fan+heatsink and reinstalling in the event it is too tight to the motherboard.

It can run a variety of games well. But, you always have to adjust settings in game and check system requirements of games you want to play. This configuration is not the best, but it could do well depending on what you want to play.
I don't know that it is compatible with the X6 CPU option. You could change the case, but you will have trouble connecting an ATX power supply with some kind of adapter. It's common to do this with Lenovo ThinkCentre's and there are custom cables you can buy, but to my knowledge I don't know of any for this HP PC. @@mymutt3980 That's a pretty good combo. Yes, that card will fit in that tower it looks like. Though, I would imagine that your Power Supply may not have a PCI power plug. Look at some used power supplies around you. Or if you have some spare money ($55 CAD for me) a Thermaltake 500W PSU is on Amazon. There was a sale on some EVGA 510W PSU's as well. Or, look into a SATA to PCIe adapter which will be much cheaper.

Well I had tried that msconfig and only saw 2 cores but by using the advice of that post and going in and out of msconfig starting and restarting it finally displayed 4 cores which I checked. Now device manager shows 4 cores. Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot for the video!!! Received the 6005 as a gift. Replaced broken hard drive for a SSD. Updated BIOS. Placed a Phenom II AMD Phenom II X4 955, 95Watt and a GTX 1050 2GB (Chose the GPU because of NVENC encoder capablity). Result: revived PC and now fit for a OBS streaming project!! Important: T15 screw, dry cloth enough if no Isopropyl alcohol available. CPU must be Deneb architecture. A list of compatible GPU's in the comments..

I just upgraded mine to a quad core for $9.00! these units will support Windows 10 and I use mine as a media server for watching movies... love these old systems.... they will last a lot longer then 10 years.... I also added a Nvidia GeForce 710 2GB video card to mine...

Watched this video and it helped me some so I figured I'd comment with what I was able to figure out. I found out the bios can be updated to 1.17 (you must select your os as Windows 7 x64 on the HP support page to get access). I purchased and installed a b97 processor which I was not able to get working. The bios recognized what it was but would not boot. So I got a b95 and that worked. I upgraded the ram to 16gb (4x4gb) 1600mhz ddr3 which worked with no issue. I also installed an MSI rx560 graphics card which also works perfectly. When purchasing an rx560 be sure to check it doesn't require external power because most rx560 cards do. And lastly I added a 500gb western digital SSD which is used as the boot drive. The computer runs on windows 10. It starts up quick and has no issues running. I have installed pcxs2 emulator for PS2 games for my kids to play and it runs that pretty well. It's also streams 4k movies with no issue. The computer I got for free, the ram was under $50 on Amazon, the graphics card was $40 on ebay, the processor was $15 on ebay, and the SSD I had laying around but I did purchase a bracket with cables for $9 on Amazon. So for right around $100 it has turned out to be a pretty decent setup.
Also figured it might be good to state I have ran multiple things and kept it running for a decent amount of time and have not had any issue with the oem 240w psu.

Just sharing some tests I made with this pc. Updated to latest bios. Phenom ii 955 overclockable version works. Hd 7750, HD 6570, HD 7770, HD 8470, R5 240 works. If the cards are big, I used a pcie riser, with pcie to 6pin power if necessary.

@@HaisteComputerRepair What that's not working: r7 260x with riser cable and pcie to 6pin power adapter cable. Can boot to Windows but cannot have heavy load. Even after when I crank the power all the way to very low amount, and cut half the gpu MHz. I suspect its becuase the pcie power cable have 4 cables instead of the usual 5. Suggestion: you might want to check which refurbish computers can support 75 W to 150 W graphic cards via pcie to 6 pin power cables.

Hello, I have an HP 6005 SFF (Phenom II X4 b97, SDD Kinstong 240 Gigas, RAM 12 Gigas (3 modules), I have not been able to update the bios, could you help me? I have installed a GT 720 (GT720 GDDR5 1GB Dual DisplayPor) , and it doesn't give me video.
I give advice for those who want to upgrade to Phenom II with 125W TDP (X4 965 BE, X6 1100T, etc). The motherboard supports them and you can even use your computer normally ... BUT! the CPU reaches temperatures around 70 / 73ºC (just starting windows) and the fan goes up at maximum speed and noise. Also unfortunately the HP bios has blocked overcloking. So be careful when buying your CPU

Yep, it was plug and play. My card is plugged into the second PCI from the bottom, so on the case there should be an empty slot below and two above (one dedicated to your VGA, usually above the card). Have you tried all three display ports? VGA, HDMI, and DVI? What operating system do you have installed? Does your card have a fan on the heat sink? Could indicate whether or not it is working. If you can put either Linux or Windows .iso on a usb and try booting from that, that might also load the drivers. Are you open to a reinstall of Windows? Sorry for all the questions, but this will help with troubleshooting. Let me know!

Awesome! Those cards should work fine so long as they are low profile. I had DDR3 1333MHz RAM installed, but 1600MHz should work as well I can test this and get back to you. 2 x 4GB dual channel, 4 x 2GB, 4 x 4GB RAM configurations would all work fine.

@@cjtechreviews It's no problem. Look up any Corsair PSU within that range. They are generally pretty nice and reasonable price wise. You would probably be ok with the existing heat sink and fan combo. You could take a measurement of the fan and search up something different, but maybe test out the system first to see if you really need something different or not.

am upgrading my son's 6005 Pro, looking at putting in a GTX 1050Ti low profile card, RAM updgrade and SSD, and eventually a processor upgrade if it bottlenecks... big concern is power though, the GTX1050Ti draws 75W and the PSU is only 250W or something like that, was wondering how much power is left available for a better processor? I think your Quadro card is rated for around 40W and that Phenom II for either 95W or 125W? Am seeing lots of Phenom II X6 on ebay for reasonable, and they are also rated either 95W or 125W. But power calculators already show the above configuration without the CPU upgrade cutting it close. How is your system doing for power, does it cut signal ever?
I have never had a problem with this setup. The 250W power supply worked just fine. Mind you, it was just for work and general use. I only played a game or two on it a few times. I didn't exactly test it to the limits. I would give your setup idea a shot and perhaps think about upgrading the power supply (there are small form factor options) or migrating to a larger case that will allow for a larger power supply to be installed. As well, perhaps a better fan setup for cooling. Either way, let me know how it goes. I think that sounds like a great setup.

Just to follow up on my son's upgrade project (in case anyone reading this is curious): phenom ii x6 is not compatible with the hp compaq motherboard (the Deneb based hex cores are compatible with the AMD785G chipset, but no support from HP Compaq), so no hex core for the little 6005 pro SFF. Waiting for a phenom ii x4 B95 from aliexpress ;) The GTX1050Ti installed no problems, but is seriously CPU bottlenecked with the phenom ii X3 processor it came with. Hopefully an extra core and higher clock helps a bit.

Thank you for watching! I hope it helped in some way. I didn't have to update the BIOS. Driver and BIOS support ended with Windows 8. Everything seems to run just fine with 10, though. I am running it at a school and letting kids play flash games on it. There is the occasional BSOD, but it's not really an issue worth addressing. Yep, it works just fine. Mind you, I only used it for general tasks and work related things. The only gaming I really did was testing it out. If you were to upgrade the graphics card to something that required more power, then a different PSU would be needed. Otherwise, reference the card you want to use on a site like techpowerup.com and find out if you need the extra power or not.

It should work perfectly fine, though a lot of people seem to have issues installing GPU's into this model. I didn't have any issues, so I would still at least recommend a GT 1030.

Does the BIOS support UEFI boot?
I installed Win 10 using the Win 7 product key shipped on the tower case. I used the Microsoft installation media from their website here: www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10. I haven't tried UEFI yet personally, so I can't confirm beyond parroting what something online says. Hope that helps :)

I am not certain, but try looking up that cpu on CPU World's website and compare it to the one in this video. Phenom II X4 945. They are both socket AM3, but I am unsure if it will match this motherboard at the moment. I would have to do more research.
I recently upgraded to a x4 630 95w but even with a custom dissipator and cooler, the power supply fan starts to sound like mad and also temperatures from the motherboard and the cpu gets above 70C°.

There isn't a lot you can do for extra cooling. You could try installing some exhaust fans at the rear like this: tinyurl.com/yckk2bs5

Take a look at Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc on your keyboard. Go to the Perfomance tab and look at your CPU info. Or, download CPUZ www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
In my general use/work station PC, I have an AMD A8 PRO-7600B R7 CPU that Task Manager lists as having two cores instead of 4. CPUZ corrects this info. Try this first and then get back to me, if you like :)

My HP Compaq 6005 pro sff has an AMD Sempron(tm) 145 Processor in it, not the AMD Athlon II X2 the specs say it was manufactured with. I need an upgrade. I'm gonna bookmark this video. Bummer having to buy a screwdriver, never understood why all the different types of heads.

I bought this computer at a steal, a thrift store. Clean inside with a refurbished sticker. I run Linux, Ubuntu-Mate next to the Windows OS. Amazing, I guess when they refurbished they 'downsized' the speed performance AMD Athlon II X2 B26, with a slower energy efficient AMD Sempron 145. The HP 6005 Compaq Pro SFF didn't come out with the Sempron. If I run across the original or something close to it, I'll go with that. thx!

Hello. I was given a HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor and I was wanting to use it to play Age of Empires 3 Definitive Edition. What kind of hardware would you recommend I upgrade this desktop with?
Well, first I would ask what your budget is. You can easily sink a few hundred dollars into this desktop if you have the money. First, I would recommend upgrading to 16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM. Make sure you have at least one SSD for boot. One for running everything else would be good too. The best CPU from this list of socket types is the Phenom II X4 980.

A SFF Power Supply upgrade would also help.
If you can put together something similar to what I did in the video, it looks like you can still run the game on lower settings. One thing to keep in mind is that you can sell what you replace to make back some of the money. eBay is a good place for this. Unfortunately they take 12% of each sale, so if you go this route make sure you do your due diligence in making sure you don't end up paying more than you take away.

Yes for the SSD. You will just have to do the work involved in either cloning your HDD to an SSD or reinstalling Windows, after installing into the tower. You could change the cooler, but it would need to fit the motherboard and the plastic fan shroud, which helps direct airflow. If you are having some overheating issues, maybe check it out and clean it up. Perhaps reapply thermal paste.

You can change the default in BIOS to use the integrated VGA native to the motherboard, but then you will not be using the graphics card. If your monitor doesn't support DVI or DisplayPort, you can also use an adapter. Let me know if this is the case.

I'm not too sure what graphics card would be the one to max out on. If you have a GTX 1050 ti Low Profile, try it out. I would be curious to know if it works. I imagine it would, however, an upgraded CPU like the one in this video would be a better pair than the one you have installed. The most I've installed in a system like this is a 2GB DDR3 card and it works just fine.
I have an hp 6005 pro small form factor that is about 7-8 years old. Today I smelled an electrical fire ordor and something was running inside constantly at higher noise level than usual, not rattly like a bearing. Suddenly the power went off on the computer and it started making a series of 3 beeps and small red light blinked everytime the sequence of 3 beeps occurred. Looked closer at the back and whiffs of smoke were coming out of the back. I have disconnected all cables and power and opened case but don't see anything burnt looking. Is this most likely a power supply failure? If so, should I be able to get this back up and running by replacing power supply. I might also upgrade the cpu while it is open. I believe RAM is 4 GB. This computer is only used for word processing, spreadsheets, TurboTax -- no gaming. Would it be useful to add some RAM also?

Have you tried turning it on since? Was it plugged into a surge protector or just the wall outlet? If you can check out the motherboard, look for any traces of black, perhaps where the power supply connects to the board. If it is at all working and you want to upgrade, everything in this video didn't cost too much and it would be a good improvement. Especially with the addition of an SSD. Let me know what troubleshooting you have done since writing this. And first plug it into a surge protector if you can!
I hooked it up to power again. The only thing that happens is a red light above the "light" symbol on front of the case blinks and beeps 4 times. When I push the power button absolutely nothing happensI except the blinking light and beeps continue. I do not see anything burnt on the motherboard or where the power supply connects to the motherboard. The fact that a little smoke was whafting from the back of the case when it first happened made me suspect the power supply. thanks for any input. John
@@BelindaFord For sure, are you able to try a different power supply? They aren't too expensive to replace at least. Maybe a local computer shop might have one to try out? With this HP, it may be proprietary to the motherboard. I see them listed on eBay, though.

Nice, that's a good idea. I don't think you should worry about replacing the heatsink or CPU fan, unless you are customizing with a new or larger tower case, etc. Unless you're really overworking the system, I'm sure you will be just fine.

@@HaisteComputerRepair Well the 960T I know works from another system. When the processor is plugged in and the computer turned on. No display. Tried reinstalling cpu three times. Then I take out the 960T and installed the athlon 620. Works on first try. Lol. Motherboard Bios is year 2010 one.

Yep, that would essentially be purchasing a different computer. Just make sure it matches your power supply, type of RAM and graphics card if you have one installed. You could probably fit a board into your existing case. What kind of i5 are you looking to install? Perhaps there is an AMD equivalent?

updating you, I recently bought the X4 965 and X6 1100T to test them and it was a complete failure, the computer works correctly but the CPU reaches scary temperatures and testing games like GTA V or DOOM it reaches almost 76ºC unlike my current CPU ( X4 B97) with TDP 95W runs at 38ºC normally and in games it reaches up to 62ºC without increasing the fan speed.
In conclusion ... we cannot ignore the recommendations of the motherboard manual! Greetings friend from Colombia

From a quick Google search, I don't see anyone being successful installing an X6 CPU in this HP Compaq Pro. I see, as you said, that it is rated at 125W, while the X4 series are 95W. I think if I had to guess, it would be a no. But, if you ever get the chance to try, let me know how it goes. I could be wrong, too, so keep looking and maybe post to some forums.

Well, the socket type is compatible with what I installed, so at the very least it would fit. As for compatibility with the motherboard itself, I'm not sure as I have never tried it.

Check out the CPU, GPU, and RAM info in the description. Looking up on eBay would probably be the best bet for the CPU. For the RAM, if you can find a deal on any DDR3 1333MHz RAM, go for it. Look for at least 8GB total. For the graphics card, look up any 2GB Low Profile card near equivalent to the Quadro 600. eBay, local buy and sells, etc. Use a site like TechPowerUp to compare. Just google "NVIDIA Quadro 600 techpowerup" (or whatever card you want) to pull up details for comparison to other cards.
Also, feel free to hit me up. I can always ship something out for what might be a good price comparative to what you find.

You can use a variety of low profile 4GB Graphics cards. Anything you are looking at? GTX 1050 would be good for light gaming. Something like a GT 1030 or AMD Radeon Pro WX3100 for performance boost and workstation use.

Though I no longer have this PC, I believe it supports SATA 2. Still, the speeds were pretty good with the upgrades and, personally, I wouldn't necessarily see a difference for general use.

No problem with Windows 10. You can play games the system can handle, but they will either be old games or very light games as the CPU graphics are not capable of much.

I'm certain that would work with the 6005, but the EAH6870 looks like a regular sized card. Unless you migrated over to a larger case or installed a PCI cable extension and modify where you can fit that size of card in a SFF (small form factor) tower case, it won't fit. Unless there is a low profile version of the card? You can definitely find a near equivalent that is low profile.

I would recommend any equivalent to the NVIDIA GeForce 210 (1GB) to the GeForce 710 (2GB), depending on what you can find and how much you want to spend. I've installed both and have seen them in action. Both are an improvement, for sure. As for the best and most optimal, I can't speak to that as I have not tried. The 710 is the highest powered option I have tried.

Most of these cards will work fine with a 240W power supply. Look up cards on techpowerup.com they do a really good job of providing essential information.

In a system like this HP Compaq 6005, it's capped at 1333MHz. You can still install 1600MHz, but it will run at 1333MHz speeds. It's likely possible to overclock at your own discretion through software.

Yes, but if you keep the Small Form Factor case you will need to source a low profile card. I don't know if there is a Quadro q2000 low profile version, but there are equivalents. Do you have access to those cards or are you looking to buy? FYI the Quadro would be a much better choice than the GTS 250. There wouldn't be much of a performance increase with the GTS 250, that card would suit an older system better.

If you have the low profile version to fit in this case, yes. Otherwise you would need a larger PC case. Either way, that card would work fine. For the full size card, I believe you need a PCI power plug and you would need to change the power supply or get a SATA to PCI power adapter.

Also, are you asking how to install a CPU cooler? Or change what is already in the tower? Right now, if you have the same tower as this, there is a heatsink and CPU fan on top of the CPU.

@@HaisteComputerRepair So i went with a r7 240, got one with a loud fan(kinda broken fan yk because it was cheap), sprayed it with some wd-40, cleaned out the card and now it works perfectly with no problem, thanks. total cost of the upgrade 15$ lol

Well the X4 is what I installed in this video. The X6 is socket AM3 as with the X4, but I am not sure if this HP motherboard supports it. Will have to do some research

Hello, I had an Hp Compaq 6005 pro MT with atlhon ii x2 b22 so I bought a Phenom ii x4 b95 but the HP Compaq cooler stayed with the coole at maximum speed with a lot of noise.
What can I do now to try to solve this problem?
Can you verify that the cpu fan is plugged into the CPU_Fan header on the motherboard?

@@Carloskaiquep I've had this problem where a fan is connected to the SYS_FAN header on a motherboard, but not the CPU Fan. Is there another fan you can test out? Did you reapply thermal paste? Perhaps try uninstalling the CPU fan+heatsink and reinstalling in the event it is too tight to the motherboard.

@ Right, that's fair. I can say that I had no issues with the 955. Stock 240W power supply ran everything fine.

It can run a variety of games well. But, you always have to adjust settings in game and check system requirements of games you want to play. This configuration is not the best, but it could do well depending on what you want to play.

I don't know that it is compatible with the X6 CPU option. You could change the case, but you will have trouble connecting an ATX power supply with some kind of adapter. It's common to do this with Lenovo ThinkCentre's and there are custom cables you can buy, but to my knowledge I don't know of any for this HP PC. Good luck and let me know if you come up with something.

Yes I believe it would work fine, however you would need a larger case or pci cable adapter to be able to fit the card in the SFF case.

@@mymutt3980 That's a pretty good combo. Yes, that card will fit in that tower it looks like. Though, I would imagine that your Power Supply may not have a PCI power plug. Look at some used power supplies around you. Or if you have some spare money ($55 CAD for me) a Thermaltake 500W PSU is on Amazon. There was a sale on some EVGA 510W PSU's as well. Or, look into a SATA to PCIe adapter which will be much cheaper.

Try looking at this forum post and try the suggested Win+R type, msconfig, navigate to Boot tab, Advanced Options, and see if the number of processors box is checked

Well I had tried that msconfig and only saw 2 cores but by using the advice of that post and going in and out of msconfig starting and restarting it finally displayed 4 cores which I checked. Now device manager shows 4 cores. Thanks for your help.
