New grads should be warned that finding a collaborating doc is the single greatest limitation to finding a job when you graduate. If they think finding a preceptor is hard…..you’re in for a treat. There are basically no actual independent practice states. The ones that say they are mostly aren’t; because you still need a ton of hours, cash and paperwork to get there. Rough road.
How is the payment for the collaborating physician set up? Is it a monthly fee, per chart review basis, or percentage? Also what would be considered a reasonable payment amount?
Great question. It all depends on what you set up with them. Typically, what most do is either a monthly fee, per hour that you consult or a small percentage. I think their normal hourly rate is reasonable such as 250$.
