I did this mod but, instead of using a Dremel, I just used an X-Acto knife. The plastic is VERY soft. If you just score it (make light cuts where you want the holes) the plastic will break off along those cuts.
Dad's.... I enjoyed the execution, cutting plastic and sanding, cleaning. Fine work! I missed the before and after comparison, both for sound and visual. Having said all this, that music was atrocious.... I'm all for rock and roll, can't handle that.
Yo man, new fan of the channel, so glad there’s someone doing vids about the GSW. I have a 16 GSW 1.8t FWD tho, no tune or anything just bagged and wheels. Thinking about a tune but idk times are tough rn✊🏾💯💯 can’t wait for more launches and how it feels vs stock
Thanks for checking it out and thanks for the comment. Suspension is next for me. Trying to select the right setup - there are just sooo many factors. I can tell you even a stage 1 tune from APR or Unitronic is totally worth the spend. You will not be disappointed. It does get expensive if you have the DSG, because you should really do both ecu and TCU tunes for the best experience.
Felt like I was in a strip bar with the music lol, good job tho,I used that Christmas tree drill bit to make holes in mine,it leaves clean round holes, also why I didn’t open mine up completely was because I felt that possible water could get in if driving in heavy rain,I didn’t want to be worried about that if I did get stuck in a big downpour, you should be ok tho
I did the similar diy project on my 2020 Jetta (k&n + made the 3 holes).......I got more better acceleration and sweety voice, the default design seals off its real power
This is a dumb idea....NOT TO DO! Hahaha. I love the airflow graphic at 1:22 and you did a great job cleaning it up. @@DadWagon So far its only done a wheel change job, but it was the best automotive DIY experience of my life. Why did I wait so long to buy an impact gun?
I was too but haven’t had any issues. Drove all winter with it, and many have as well. The filter has container has a snow grate and the filter should trap moisture. I have a cold air intake now, and this would seemingly have similar issues. But none to speak of.
@@DadWagon Alright! Thanks for the quick response! I kept the stock intake but removed the snow guard and put a performance filter. I drilled the duct but had second thoughts, that's why I asked :)
That’s genius! Do you notice a difference on acceleration and mpg? I have a 2018 4motion sportwagen and I might do this instead of spending so much money on aftermarket intake that’s only give me extra 5 hp, right?
@@mariosopranzetti4932 Nothing that I could 'feel', but based on science it helps slightly. If you upgrade the filter and take out the snow grate, you get the most significant increases - mygolfmk7.com/2019/02/more-stock-airbox-work/
i like how you did this, but you have a stock airbox....so it makes no sense to do. if you had an upgraded one, it would make sense. also, why be tuned with a stage 2 and still have the stock airbox? youre not a very smart guy....
You don’t need to upgrade the airbox at all. If you do the snow guard mod, and the cut out here in this video with a drop in filter, intake hose and turbo inlet pipe, there are no differences. Honestly keeping the stock box is better for heat. Cold air intakes aren’t that cold. You would just be sucking in hot air.

excellent, I did an update to my audi tts and I also put the kyn filter on it, it improved a lot, it's like having a racingline 600, it works the same
glad to hear it and thanks for sharing!

I did this on my 21 tiguan r line with apr tune and high flow turbo inlet elbow, and intake works great 😂

Nicely done! Now just need a drop in AFE filter if you don't have one yet.

Nice!
Did you remove the snow guard also?
Tbh I would. I removed it and breath way better. Just clean your K&n filter twice a year or more. Or change the paper filter more often.
That was most likely blocked off to prevent water getting directly into the intake.
How about R600 ?

The impact driver has been working out great so far too - how is yours performing?

Love BOTH your channels. Have learned a ton from them. I’m just thinking VW must have had a reason for doing it the way they did? What could it be?
Out of curiosity, what sort of sandpaper are you using at 3:45?
It's for a Festool RO Sander. 180 grit maybe.
I'm concerned about getting water and snow in the intake and turbo, aren't you? By the way, thanks for all your videos, cool stuff!

Thanks Garry! I haven't driven the car enough to notice anything yet. I'll keep you posted if I start to notice any changes, good or bad.
So how it looks?
hello, is this modification also effective for the Tdi, Diesel versions? Thank
Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to this question. Maybe some others will help you out with a reply.

Any cons with this mod in heavy rain/snow ?
Not that i've experienced.
alot YT do this mode its useless cuz there need a second air inlet scoop kit or make simply a hole*
What if it rains your going to ruin your engine
Nope - water won't get through the filter.
