One hour and a half of class. And it's free. It would only be better if I could be there practicing with you guys, thank you so much for the class. Cheers
Thank you for your comment! Turkey is a long distance from where I am in Kansas City. The Internet is really amazing in how it can link people together.
Great work. I'm always watching your videos and learning from them. From your experience. Could you make a video about the advantages of taller judokas against shorter opponents? Greetings!
Thank you for your comment! I hope the length of it doesn't dissuade people from watching but I wanted to offer as much useful information as possible.
@@welcomematstevescott Sure did. I started judo when I went to study in Japan and now Im obsesses. I'm still trying to find my own style and I'm still having trouble with what shoulder throws to implement in my arsenal. The goal is to become a blackbelt and visit Kodokan. This video helped me understand much more about the intricacies of the throws. For that I can only be thankful
Good question Mirko-and you did a good job answering it as well! You are correct in working more on a rotational or twisting movement. You might want to look into doing an Uki Goshi rather than Ogoshi. Check out our video on Uki Goshi as well as other RUclips channels as it is an under-rated throw. Look at our channel's playlist for Koshi Waza/Hip Techniques as we may have something helpful for you.
@@welcomematstevescott for sure all seoi variation can works in this way but more than uki goshi i can prefer tai otoshi variation in o goshi grip because is to quick and easy o maybe ashi guruma, but i find uki goshi complex and high level skills Your opinion about it? Thanks sensei
A lot of people use Uki Goshi and call it Ogoshi. Actually, Uki Goshi is not complex at all. Check out our videos on Uki Goshi on our channel (look in the Koshi Waza or Hip Techniques playlist). Also, we have a video titled "Kidney Grip" attack (or something like that) and that is actually a cross between Uki Goshi and Tsuri Goshi. Hope this is helpful.
@@welcomematstevescott I saw that video but so uki goshi isn't a forward throw when an opponent push to me but an attack side throw?!?! And so what do you Think about ashi guruma/ tai otoshi in that way against bigger opponent? Are not good? Thanks very much sensei
This guy did knee drop seoi nage wrong. He showed it with his arm under his opponent's arm: 24:15 And he did it with his arm over: 24:44 That wouldn't work in a real match because you can't "pop up" the opponent, he can hold resistance better than you like that so no opening for a seoi nage Edit: at 26:00 he says that both can work but from my few experience if you work with a taller opponent that is spreading back a lot, this is a good way to break his posture and make him stand, the "over the arm" can bring him closer to your core which gives different advantages
If you hit a heavier opponent at an angle rather than straight on, the double leg works well. I recommend doing a single leg type throw or takedown if an opponent is a lot heavier than you. But the angle you attack him from in a double leg attack makes a big difference.
Yes if you do it the way its taught in wrestling, driving him laterally not backwards. Step your foot across outside of thier foot. The footwork makes it easy.

Sumi Gaeshi. I used that to counter a single leg. It works well.
Hi sensei,
Very good job,
But how can o goshi works if my opponent is too heavy???
Maybe a twisting throw is better than a lifting throw

Just checked-two videos on our channel that might be helpful are "Uki Goshi Cross Body Attack" and "Kidney Grip Hip Throw."

Bro....in your opinion, what are best takedowns against heavier guys...specifily in wrestling...my sparring pertner is 20 kg heavier btw
Knee Drop Ippon Seoi Nage is the best in my opinion. Check our playlist titled Seoi Nage and Knee Drop Throws.
Does Judo pull guard when it's on the ground like BJJ?
In many cases, the thrower will pass over the defender's leg after the throw to start a pin.
@@welcomematstevescott what happened to the defender? Did he bridge like crazy immediately or wait for the opponent to make a mistake like in BJJ?
Is double leg takedown effective against heavier guys?

No, trust me. He will fall on top of you and it's not nice, trust me, I've done that before. The best way is to single leg him with an angle
Yes if you do it the way its taught in wrestling, driving him laterally not backwards. Step your foot across outside of thier foot. The footwork makes it easy.
If the person is larger than you single leg is much better, because if the have a good sprawl and long legs you lose your grip.
Shohei Ono is small but always throw the taller opponent
Good Randori example in this video at 58 secs, vs bigger taller opponent.
