    For as much crap as Marvel takes for having made so many movies before having a female led one...they don't really own a character that deserved to be "the first" of this generation. Black Widow and Captain Marvel are cool...but they aren't Wonder Woman. I'm glad the DCEU has its first good film with this one, and this character specifically.

      It's true DC women heroes are much more capable of leading a movie about them whereas with marvel they have a few good sidekick females but no real leaders.

    Regarding Themiscyra's location, given its Greco-Roman origins, it makes sense to be in the Mediterranean, potentially by Asia Minor, so a Semitic accent makes sense.
    And Dr. Poison is a classic Wonder Woman villain. She showed up way back in Sensation Comics #2.

    • @HollowGolem
      @HollowGolem 7 лет назад

      Accents morph over time, sure, but "Semitic" can refer to Israelis, Palestinian Arabs, Bedouins, and Assyrians. That's a pretty broad net.
      Themiscyra, in Greek myth, was located in Turkey. Close enough.

    Marc you stated that black people were not in WWI but they were. The most decorated unit there was the 369th called the Harlem Hellfighters. They fought with French troops because the Americans did not want them. The French loved them and awarded them well. So, Black people were there.......big time.

      6 years old and still an absolute beta comment , have some pride ....I have no problem with a female lead being the central focus but the movies were mediocre at best , the supergirl in the new flash movie was 100% more interesting and would deserve these kind of accolades for her performance

    Bruce: Really Selina's in France
    Diana: You know her?

      I agree for the most part. But, Marc has a soft spot towards diversity. And a bias when he feels there's a lack there of. His Iron Fist hate was way over the top. I think the diversity thing played heavily in his assessment of that show. I don't remember, but I'd bet he gave Ghostbusters (2016) a positive review.

    Minor correction, Wonder Woman is a demi-god (like Hercules). And second, throughout her comic book history, Wonder Woman can be subdued by her own Lasso if a man wraps her in it.

    When it comes to female superheroes, more than anything, I want to see Miller and Sienkiewicz Elektra Assassin come to life on the big screen. The graphic novel is brilliant and reads like a movie. Great characters too.

  • @Tay-wj9et
    @Tay-wj9et 7 лет назад +1

    One thing I noticed was that after Wonder Woman defeats Antiope and there's that huge burst of energy, the next scene has Steve crashing through the barrier and being followed by soldiers... kind of like the god of war found her the instant she used her powers for the first time. It's just interesting to me that Hippolyta said the stronger Diana gets, the sooner Ares will find her and it seems like she was right!

    I could totally see a sequel to Wonder Woman, and have it set in World War II. You could have Circe be the main villain with Giganta alongside as her right hand henchman. You could then bring in Apache Chief/Long Shadow who is playing the part of a Wind Talker unit since Giganta is considered an archenemy to both Wonder Woman and Long Shadow. Just sayin

      not really especially seeing that the marvel ultimates universe ( which is what the movie universe was based off of ) totally ignores the secret defenders which cap was a part of int he original comics before hte avengers existed. and lets be honest Most if not ALL comics started just before ww2 Marvel was a latecomer in the 50s DC existed just prior to ww2 i meen shit Sandman is actually older than Batman

    I'm a 50 yr old woman. I can tell you guys, hand on heart, remembering when I was about 7,in the early 70s, watching Superfriends and feeling so disheartened that Wonder Woman had so little to do. I remember feeling so frustrated that the dudes had all the main storylines, and WW was relegated to the 'B' plot. I still remember thinking,'All she does is get kidnapped and fly the silly invisible plane'.(I now think the plane is kinda cool, but at the time it represented everything wrong with how they used her in the show. )She just sat in the plane and had a clipped weird way of talking and doing very little. She'd lasso some third rate monster and do lady-like kicks and was hardly an aspirational figure. I'm so happy for my 11 y.o niece that 40 odd years later, she'll go see a cool female superhero, who is kind and brave and kickass. Thank you to the filmmakers for finally making a cool female superhero film. It's taken 43 yrs for the 7 yr old me to get her wish, but we got there at last.

    to me ww1 worked because it was the first world war so of course hades would be responsible so when she defeats him she thinks there will be peace forever then ww2 and the rest of history came around with no hades and she realises mankind is fucked up so why should i help them, hence why she disappears for such a long time.

    If Wonder Woman is in current time, what happens to Steve Trevor? He's in his 30s in World War I, isn't he? That would mean in todays world he'd be over 100. Even World War II would be 20 years later, that would make him 50. What happens to Wonder Woman's special guy? Does she get a new one for each movie?

    Marc and Kevin, I've got a couple thoughts to share:
    1. I always appreciate how in depth and detailed you guys are in your discussions of your thoughts during movie review episodes. However, I think there's one thing missing from this one. I know you talked about it a little bit, but I really wish you guys had talked more about how you though Gal Gadot did in the role of Diana/Wonder Woman. Personally I think she was fantastic. Diana is an extremely multifaceted character. She's kind, strong, intelligent, emotional, vulnerable, compassionate, fierce, stubborn, optimistic, warm, and a great leader. I think Gal was able to wonderfully embody all of those qualities in a truly believable way.
    2. As a young woman, I completely identify with what you guys were saying about how you thought it must feel to be a girl watching this film. I cried tears of happiness watching those amazons defending Themyscira. The only thought running through my head for that whole scene was, "look at all these beautiful, strong women doing these things."
    3. I'd definitely fuck Steve Trevor too.
    Can't wait to see your Spiderman Homecoming review!

    There is another reason why they chose WWI over WWII and that is because one of the main ideas of the movie was that the mankind in general, regardless of the side, has the equal potential to be good and bad, of which Wonder Woman had a inner conflict about whether to put faith in humanity or not based on her experiences in warfare. (SPOILER) That is why Ares turns out to be on the English side rather than the Germans. You would not be able to do that with WWII, in which the Nazi Germany, as portrayed in number of movies, was the pure evil.

      Yeah but in Greek legends, Amazons were considered completely crazy and evil; their stories used Amazons as villains in the way we use Orcs or Stormtroopers as villains that can be killed without remorse. So it is OK they changed some things for the Amazons, and Gal doesn't have to sound Greek IMO.

    I'm glad critics and haters finally like a DC movie, still annoyed that they're still throwing crap at the other dceu films, Suicide Squad: Had its flaws but still fun to watch and had some likable characters (Deadshot, Harley, Diablo). BvS: Also many problems but had great memorable scenes (Mad max batman, warehouse scene, Wonder Woman). But MOS: If that movie doesn't move you, then I don't know what will.

      only superficially. I mean they are both about sacrifice and being on a plane. but the character journey is in fact not the same, also as a pilot it is a logical way for him to handle the situation.

    I took my niece to see this film over the week end and it made me cry not the movie per say ( it was in fact awesome) I cried because I got to watch this little girl see her hero come to life and experience the world of movies and comics in a way that as a white male I have been able to do for a very long time. I remember growing up I got Luke sky walker and Superman and Michael Kenton's batman...etc.. and I loved them all but sharing these things with my sister where hard because she never got to see anyone that represented her as a strong hero. Now here we are me and her daughter seeing wonder woman. for 2 hours and 45 min this little girl is glued to her seat bouncing up and down in her chair every time wonder woman kicks ass on screen. this movie will always be special to me and a very excited 10year old.

    Kevin, I'm going to keep this short, but just to let you know, I saw Star Wars in 1977, I was 7 at the time: I'm the same age as you, and we share a lot in common in our experiences with entertainment growing up. Apparently a love for Wonder Woman is not one of those things.
    I grew up with a younger sister, and we watched the old Wonder Woman show without fail, and we BOTH loved. It. I can honestly say with a straight face and as a straight, married man of 47, I, too, have been waiting mu whole life for this. As soon as I heard today that it was actually a good movie, I called my sister. We rarely get together, but this Saturday we're going to watch Wonder Woman, and we will BOTH be cheering.

    • @MisterRlGHT
      @MisterRlGHT 7 лет назад +1

      That 1974 deal was a made-for-TV "movie of the week," which means it probably wasn't even long enough to count as a feature film without the padding of commercials. And having seen it, I can testify that its blonde chick in head-to-toe spandex had little relation to Wonder Woman beyond the title.

    Aries did have an Ahh Haa moment, when she was in the meeting with all the Generals. Aries pauses and stares at her. Later he helps her and Steve get out to the front lines, obviously because he wanted WW to see the horrors that mankind inflicts upon it's self. Before the final fight he says that he is the god of truth, and he wanted her to see the truth. He may whisper the weapons but it is mankind that decides to use them or not. His beef was with Zeus and the other gods because they refused to see that Zeus' greatest creation, man, was not as innocent as the gods lied to themselves to believe.

    • @kylestuart4811
      @kylestuart4811 7 лет назад +4

      Shifty McGearjam honestly its ok, suffers some of the same issues as other dc films. 3rd act is a cgi blow out, at times feels like it takes a while to get there. she gets kinda lost for a bit because of Chris Pine, his performance and way he was written just over shadowed some of her performance, plus the "rag tag team" put together all male as well -_- reduces your connection to the main character. compared to the other dc films, ww is the hottest girl on the room 8/10 so if your a dc fan you love it, in the grand skeem of big money movies it's above middle of the road 6-7/10 so if you can suspend disbelief, forgiving some weakness to the story and are looking for a little fun mixed with fish out of water (many times over) romcom spend your 20 bills. on the other hand if your looking for a movie that is here to say something and be original, you'll get a few moments of that, mixed with pulling alot from past success of other comic movie titles, surrounded by the typical stuff. weak 6/10, but hey it is a super hero movie, ment for kids and nostalgia alike, it's worth a trip to the theater..... unless you haven't guardians then go see that, see that twice. hope that helps.
