2016 was my favourite year for Eurovision
"I Stand" did not deserve 0 televote points in the Grand Final.
#Luke True. I mean I still enjoy the song
True !! My 2nd place and it's my favourite ballad of all time
#Luke Should have been in Top 10
Come on, it was a lame song with boring lyrics. Surprised it even made it to the finals. Plus they deserved it for giving 0 pts to Australia.
#Luke what happens when someone is 2nd in the running order
I didn’t start watching until months after 2017s show , but Ukraine’s win this year is one of the only times where a massive favorite of mine won and I think I would have been overjoyed watching her win live. Ukraine along with Armenia and Bulgaria are some of my fave Eurovision songs ever and this year in general is incredible.
React to Eurovision 2009! :D (for me the beginning of the modern eurovision)
you are sexy bomb!!!
Honestly Alesia, these walks down memory lane are the EXACT thing I need to fill the gap between Eurovision seasons! All of these and more please., I am obsessed, girl!♥
Still can’t believe Armenia finished outside of top 5. Should have at the minimum been 4th or 5th!
Jamala stole my heart.
My favorites of 2016 are:
- Ukraine
- Belgium
- Australia
- Armenia
- Bulgaria
- Lithuania
- France
- Italy
- Poland
So the entire top 10 except Russia? 😂
@@RickyPro888 I find nothing interesting about Russia's song, but the staging was amazing.
@@kennet7837 And in principle, there is little good in all of Russia.
Respect man😉
Wow, I forgot how good of a year 2016 was.
Omg this is maybe even the best Eurovision year so far. Almost every song is amazing
Who can say that 2016 was not a great year???? It was amazing!!!!
My Top 5 that year was:
1. Armenia 🇦🇲
2. Czech Republic 🇨🇿
3. Bulgaria 🇧🇬
4. Australia 🇦🇺
5. Israel 🇮🇱
Oh damn same Top2 but Bulgaria and Australia are in my top 5 too
Still gutted Czech Republic got 0 points with the televote.....
Terrible...
Same here, from the UK. 'I Stand' was in my top 10 that year, and I still listen to it now. :( Happy she made the final though, as Czech Republic has been doing amazing things in the past couple years!
@@OnTheLew I Stand is my favourite entry from the Czech!
Europe was like Czech, please!
@@escfanforever569 same
Still my favourite year and the year I found your channel. Still listening in 2016, especially Dami and Poli Genova .
Dami & Sound of Silence, loved it, amazing voice, still listen❤
Totally agree with Bulgaria, still listen too, so catchy.
Ukraine was the winner for me from the second I heard it, felt her pain & it was beautiful. Deserving winner, loved the staging & was just so delighted for Ukraine❤
What a strong year!! My winner was Iveta Mukuchyan for sure 😍😍 But also love Jamala - my 2nd ❤
Maybe I just love a rock moment
Maybe I just love a country moment
Maybe I just love a boyband moment
i think she just likes moments
She lives in the moment
Omggg Yeees !! I was waiting for this video 😍
I still remember how you was disappointed when Iceland didn't qualify
It still stings a bit.
Alesia Michelle stings a lot
21:05 this aged well
4 years later still obsessed with LoveWave 😍💞
Damn. Listening to all of these songs in a row ... 2016 was an amazing year.
I definitely love Belgium more than you. Thought it was a perfect opening act for the final.
I liked it too but it was pure plagiarismXD
I heard “Soldiers of Love” in a target in New Jersey once
I heard "You're Not Alone" at my work in Michigan a few times, along with quite a few other Eurovision songs.
I heard ‘if I were sorry’ in a McDonalds in Melbourne.
I heard "Sound of Silence" everywhere.
@@jamslam5641 I heard "Sound of Silence" at a bar near my work, performed by Dami Im herself live. She has such a beautiful voice...and very tall.
they too love a boyband moment
Strongest group of songs ever for me! Been watching Eurovision since I can remember, my dad watched it from the begging and I grew up with it. It’s like Christmas in our house every year. Agree with all your likes of the songs. Apart from Finland. Didn’t like. And Iceland. Absolutely loved that 1. But you’ve got good taste Alesia haha 😝
Aside from songs themselves can we just aknowledge how vocally solid this contest was? Even the suckiest entries that we were worried about managed to keep up to the standard and be pros at what they were doing (except Finland and Azerbaijan but that is like 2 out of 40). Very good year.
pogodziej I co-sign.
Czech was in my top 3 that year... so underrated
ESC2016..... my favorite!
It is still my favorite Eurovision year. I liked almost every song and I had similar reactions as Alesia. Guilty pleasures was also Switzerland and Denmark haha
I like the fact that you reacted to the official music video of all the songs! I hadn't seen most of them. Great job 👍❤️
One of the best year in Eurovision Song Contest history!!!
Thanks for this Alesia!!!
I still have problems deciding which songs are in my top ten but one thing is sure "You are the only one" will always be "My number one" (pun intended)!!!
And the intervals and the opening with Petra Mede and Mans... epic!!!
Certainly this year set the bar very high in all the aspects possible, and even some years after have passed some of these, they still haven't reached this level!!!
I loved this year, so many good entries, Sweden, France, Bulgaria, Australia, Ukraine, Russia, UK, and the rest :)
Also Alesia, you should totally react to the older eurovision clips from the 50s, 60s, 70s onwards (if you can even find them of course) :)
💕 I’m so glad you love UK Joe and Jake. They deserved so much better it was so British. It’s my sisters favourite Eurovision song.
OMG bulgaria should had won SOOOOO MUCH!!!
2016 was such a good year. What was your winner? Mine was Hungary 🇭🇺
Mine was Armenia
Mine was France! Amir deserves higher than 6th :(
1.Russia
2.Bulgaria
3.Australia
2016 was such an epic year. So many strong songs, superfunny hosts, Love Love Peace Peace, voting thriller at the end.
You continue blessing us with these videos.
I try :-)
4:17 i just dont understand why ppl didnt like this song, it was in my top 10
4:46 it should have placed higher.
I LOVE Joe and Jake so much! They make the song feel so legit and happy, I love it. They're so cute on stage together and have great energy. I think it's one of the better British entries that just didn't do well because it wasn't the most memorable.
i loved 2016 to - one of the best years.
this year is truly iconic
We have the same music taste i mean excactly
My fav year of songs still listening to France's entry in 2023. From what I remember I really wanted Dami Im (Australia) to win. Love from Malta
It’s funny how some of the unpopular songs get airplay in the US. A few months ago I heard Soldiers of Love (Denmark) playing in a Walgreens in Alaska and just last week I was in a bar in Florida and You’re not alone (UK) came on. So interesting!
I have a very uncomfortable question for you
Lol Yes, Jamala :))
I love 2016 so many great songs that i still listen to.
My favourite songs 2016 are from lithuania, russia, denmark, moldova, australia, ireland, Norway...and many others. Please Donny come back to eurovision!!
I love these videos you make
I love your reaction videos! Love from Spain 🇪🇸
I think 2016 is one of my favorite years. I´m still listening to France (It´s in my Alltime Top 5), UK, Denmark, Spain, Latvia. They still play Frans on german Radio
Honestly 2016 was the best year for Eurovision. Petra and Mans were amazing hosts and the interval acts were great too. Incredible variety and quality of songs even those who ended up in the bottom or didn't qualify. This was also the first year with the newly introduced way of showing jury/televotes and not gonna lie I highkey lived for the drama.
It was fun revisiting 2016! I genuinely haven't heard some of these songs since I was in Stockholm haha. Such a great year though.
CAN'T WAIT FOR ESC 2020!!! :D
2016 was such a competitive year! I had "Sound of Silence" as my winner and "1944" as my runner up. I remember one of the American commentators saying Spain was being represented by Michael Jordan, and I died. Always bitter when Iceland doesn't make it but they should've kept it in Icelandic; it just sounded better.
Now Alesia, this was a STRONG year ;)
I usually don't like Americans commenting on Eurovision, as they mostly just don't understand either Europe or ESC itself.
Your comments are always well informed, respectful and show your enthusiasm.
Great to watch.
Hey Alesia. I've uploaded a video where you can react to the songs from 2012 that didn't qualify (since your 2012 video only covered the 26 songs in the grand final. It's still up, so feel free to use it for your reaction video.
No NINA DIDN'T LIKE THE DRESS! She pluked the feathers of her arms and she didn't like the staging or looking in the cameras because she sings with her eyes closed. If HRT just let her do what she wanted to do, it would have slayed. Look at her performance of the Macedonian (shout out to our Balkan peeeps in Skopje and around) traditional song Zajdi, zajdi on the Voice - perfection
This was my first Eurovision as well!!
when i did my rankings, Georgia ended up at #1...totally the kind of song i'd listen to outside of the contest
Yup! So good. :-)
Actually my winner for the 2016 Eurovision seaaon was Saara Aalto. Her song and the entire performance of 'No Fear' in UMK are constantly in my playlist to this day
fun fact
my uncle, who hates eurovision, loves georgia 2016 and is the only song my uncle likes out of all the other songs
oh and he makes similar music so it makes sence
Denmark not making it to the final this year was... embarrasing... especially looking back on it. Shameful we didn't pick someone better in our national final :(
Fun Fact: Agnete told in the eurovision channel that the message of the song is because her friend is sick (or something like that) and she wants to help her (I forgot but it's something like that)
My favorite year!
My fav year :D Russia, Australia, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Armenia, San Marino yasss
Can't wait to meet you in Romania🤗🤗
Now y'all, let's count up how many moments Alesia likes in Eurovision :)))))))
Bulgaria 🇧🇬 💕
Remember Sweden's entry 2016, Frans - If I Were Sorry? Dude just released a new song called "Amsterdam" and... it's actually quite the banger?! Check it out if you've got time :)
Lol, finally i found someone who liked Switzerland 2016 just as me
Yes!
I will never get over the fact that Nina and Croatia were not ranked better with that song because the song and her voice are phenomenal
Yes, I do think 2016 was a high quality year. Actually most of the 2010s we see quality entries... I also love 2018 and 2019.
The source of Latvia's edgy pop songs is Aminata! She should write another entry, or even come back herself.
still haunted by Dami's face in light of the new brutal voting system setting her up at 1st in Jury and then smashing her with 4th in televoting...
So many great songs that year --- I'm STILL listening to Amir and so many others (and yes, Joe and Jake too -- I still don't get those that say it was bad)
Alesia, I really, really enjoy your content on here but there is one thing I would love to know. As a European I am so curious to know how you, as an American, actually discovered Eurovision? That would make a great video. How did you find out about it? What made you want to explore it more? What was the first song that made you go WOW?. An American... so WHY?
My favorite that year was Israel with France as 2nd, and I know Sweden got 5th place, but I loved Constellation Prize more, and wish they had send that.
Best Eurovision ever!
My top 10:
1. Armenia
2. Russia
3. Serbia
4. Hungary
5. Norway
6. Australia
7. Bulgaria
8. Malta
9. Latvia
10. Estonia/France
This is so cool but I still can't believe tho👍😐😄👍
Wiktoria should had won melodifestivalen in 2016-
I remember Your reaction when Azerbaijan qualified but Iceland didn't 😅👌
Sergey performance was a very OTT, some of the aspects really screamed kitchen sink. 3d asteroid, super mario columns...really?
I do also think it was too much, it was an impressive performance but it didn't feel cohesive and the song wasn't even that good in a year of great pop songs. I would've been disappointed if it won over 1944, and still hate that it completely overshadowed Hear Them Calling (Greta came straight after Sergey in the semi)
My top5
1.Russia
2.North Macedonia
3. Armenia
4.Cyprus
5.Malta
Could you pls react to these but on stage
I also liked Estonia that year,
Puzzling how you underrate Icebreaker.
The song didn't even qualify...
@@AlesiaMichelle But good songs don't always qualify. Sometimes there's an explanation, for example staging or performance. Then I have to back a favourite based on the song qualities still coming through. But here the staging and performance were good too. People can nitpick and say there was one little moment that wasn't perfect. But many see to find her semi live better than the studio, the emotion comes through.
Musically from the guarded verse to the dramatic chorus that slows down like it's trudging through someone's depression I think it really feels personal. The lyrics have some great lines, the end doesn't feel rushed, the bridge (what many call pre-chorus now) has a more desperate emotion. I love the variety, the journey. The middle section before the closing part holds back in anticipation, almost dread. The backing vocals kick in nicely by the end. The overhead camera shots give the impression of overwhelming odds.
Way better than the straightforward music of Dami Im or for example the Greek song this year (that is really just about the chorus).
Nina come backkkkk ❤❤❤
Yeah this year was so strong, there were almost no songs I actually disliked.
Yup! Such a strong year. We need another year like that. Truly anyone's race that year.
@@AlesiaMichelle Personally i think 2003 and 2017 were stronger and more likeable song wise.
I still don't get how Belgium made the top 10
The year full of amazing mainstream songs and brilliant production but no diversity at all.
I remember back then during the pre-season hoping for many songs in native languaghes (like i do every year)and ended up being disappointed.
But still an amazing year overall mainly thanks to Sweden and everything we got.
Germany & Czech Republic deserved so much better than the lasts places, but as you said, too many competition this year.
Soo I'm not the only one that likes the last of our kind
it's Besjani It was just the gotta-go-pee dance that cost her dearly.
I enjoyed too but her performance was weak
Yeah her dance and her moves was that bad but the song was good for me and I still listen to her.
except momtenegro and cyprus I definetly agree with you.
Austria and Italy
2016 was my favorite year, thanks for the memories.
What are your thought if Dami im came back in 2021?
Top 5
Israel Australia Hungary Bulgaria & Germany
Loin Dici was my guilty pleasure. And also liked Denmark this year.😂😂
My country Ireland was shite. Didn't deserve to qualify. His vocals were not the best, and that's probably why he is the mimer in the band.
Didn't really like Russia but staging was insane. Hated Ukraine (and probably political) but good staging.
View Point I love Loin D’ici too! :) Also Say Yay yay yay.
SLOW DOWN 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I really love Bosnia and Herzegovina on 2016 I just love it, but France is my most listened song tho XD
ESC 2016 song: a
Alessia: (cries)
Unknown ASMRtist basically
i liked Joe and Jake too :)
