Crankbaits have their place in fishing. That being said I've started to really lean towards soft plastics due to the fact is I lose a lot of cranks. Frankly with the price of everything going through the roof, I find myself making less and less tackle orders. This is super unique. I'm looking forward to trying this out. Thanks again Matt
G'day from Australia Matt...These discs were imported into Australia 20yrs ago..I actually worked for Shipton Trading at tje time who imported them over here...I actually using the action disc to catch my first Albino trout in South Australia...Now i used set the disc some 3 inches in front of my soft plastic bait and used a swivel as a stopper point...Why so far in front of my bait well it dances better than just set on the nose of the bait...The action Discs also come in a variety of sizes and colours...Regards B.J.sCustom Baits Australia.
hey Matt, yep can definitely see using this on schoolers. If keying on small bait, you could take a smaller fluke and small cup and run along surface. And if chasing bluebacks, add a 1/4 tungsten bullet weight and burn across surface. I know a lot more applications, but the fluke for starters seems awesome. thanks Matt!
Thank you for introducing us to this. I'm thinking of suction cups , cut of the part that attaches to what ever that's being hung . Poke a hole in it the size of the hook eye will work just fine .
Oh man! I have some Spunk Shads from Hog Farmer that I use as chatterbait trailers (they're basically ribbed swimbaits with a pin-tail rather than a boot-tail)... I gotta try this cup rig on those!
That looks really neat. It does seem to impart much more action to a soft jerkbait. But I don't get to fish scrounger heads all that often because they are on the opposite end of weedless. They're more like weed grabbers. I have a feeling this would be similar. Still...It *is* tackle. That means I have to buy some. I must have all the tackle!
Should try the "disc rig" with one of the soft plastics called the "yoto worm", by 10,000 fish. There made for more of a chatterbait trailer, but you put the yoto worm on behind the disc while using a ⅜ or ¼ oz. Bullet weight, and "BOOM" fish on buddy! I've hooked quite a few Bass this summer while using that set-up. Keep up the awesome videos Matt, you always have awesome content that's very informative 👍 -Tight lines 🎣
there is a company called headbanger lures that has a head like this, it's lead, so no need for the bullet weight, and it swivels as well. you might like the way they work.
That looks a lot like an item from Paycheck Baits called a Nose Job. It had a tungsten collar for noise. I used it with a Yamamoto Heart Tail swimbait. Bub Tosch called it a weedless rig. It worked good enough for me to win 2nd and big fish in a lake choked with milfoil. I dragged it slowly through the weeds, letting it drop in the holes.
I think David Dudley came out with something similar to this that you can put on a wobble head, or it's made on to the hook already like some wobble head are.. and it's made out of tungsten or lead or some type of metal if I'm not mistaken! I can't remember what it's called but my cousin has a couple and they really do work, I slow rolled a structure bug with one and caught some really really good fish in a tournament on Guntersville.. but this looked pretty cool because it looks like they would not cost that much and you can buy packs with different sizes!
I'm going to have to check out that company, I never heard of them. Thanks! Edit, I looked at your link and they're sold out or unavailable, you must have sold them out.
That plastic remind me of like plastic suction cup this is a great idea I will try this with my soft plastics I love to experiment as well with my baits 👍🏼
Thanks Matt. You sure that thing ain't swimming around looking for a egg to fertilize? My first thought was drop the weight, use a stopper to hold it against the bait. Stuff a earplug in a tube, cool popper.
This got me playing around making small thin plastic disks out of moldable plastic. The disk causes the bait to fall very slow and wobble on its way down. Will have to see how it works out ?
seen a video a few years back where a guy was making these out of small suction cups like the kind you hang stuff on your windows. the channel was fishn and stuff
I've seen those. Interesting. Yeah, the problem with scrounger heads is that the lip is made of vinyl, which, IMO, isn't very reliable. It will age and harden, get kinda funky and whatnot. This thing appears to be a different material. Maybe silicon? (Hard to tell from here)
Matt, if you put this on a J walker or Zara Spook, would it make it into a walking topwater that spits like a PopR while it walks? Would it kill the walking action instead? Can think of TONS of ways to use the cup.
How does the lake break down waypoints work if you don’t have a boat Im always asked do you have a spot that I want to try so I’m trying to buy waypoints for Toledo Bend next weekend
I can see that coming into play for us South Fla Bass and snakehead guys coming into play almost like a a wake bate (weightless) and like a weedless crank with maybe a belly weighted EWG hook with 4-5” Keteich or a #megabass Spark Shad on a Beast Hook🤷♂️, but thanks Matt! I’m a tinker around with so rod these cups, cones??
I'm going to take the wife's suction cups for her window decorations and give this a rip this weekend, if it works well and I live til Monday, I'll have to order the real deal.
Interesting little thing. Man, I have so many ideas. Lol… Walking bait? Make it a walking popper? Maybe a swim jig, give it some extra action? Sheesh… the list in my head goes on lolll 🤔
@@MattStefanFishing This might actually save some lures to. I have a couple square bills with broken lips. Turned one into a makeshift buzz bait already. 😂
@@secretbassrigs Glad I'm not the only one! I love these little terminal tackle secrets. There's all kinds of good stuff hidden on our favorite tackle sites.. I know you know the good stuff! 😁 I've had this particular one in my pocket for several years now.
Noo!!! Just no!!! Don't let this tip out the bag!! lol. Edit: We use the 3 cut cup face Action Disc version on a short Carolina rig depending on how much action we want.
Update: So my suction cup mod worked creating a HUGE wake w/ several surface, subsurface lures. Unfortunately, the bite all morning was horrible and I even lost my experimental rig after trying it on a new Glide bate that got hung up deep. Oh well. The 1 inch button idea is not recommended. It really didn't add anything to my lures actions I'm guessing bcuz the button holes prevent the forward driving water resistance like the cup rig. Bass ended up finally biting yesterday shallow w/ simple shad minnows and small plastic worms instead.
@@MattStefanFishing Just referencing similar designs. Yes, there is a new hard lure with this design. It has randomized swim in a crank style. Why am I not making any sense? Maybe I should just keep everything secret. The only thing about that cup is randamization, and it does a terrible job at doing it. Yes, I threw them in the fooking trash can. Trust me a standard chatter is better. I feel like I'm justbwasting my time helping yall.
