    Another rivalry was Stone Love , Inner City rivalry which went on for a few years, both sound didn't play with each other for a few years which culminated in the first $100.00 dance in Jamaica in 1993 at house of Leo..The dance was sold out from 11 o'clock everybody was there anticipating the face off. It was awesome. Mark and Danny, Rory ,wee pow,and the crew. $100.00 well spent

    Bass Odyssey & Mighty Crown wasn't a true rivalry, that came after the sound clash ting was watered down already.. Bass Odyssey vs. 4x4 Exodus was a RIVALRY!!

    Chin I would argue that one of the things that killed rivalries were trophies. We need to get back to the days where not every clash is a trophy clash with judged rounds... Because if you loose a clash "officially" you might be wary of hurting your brand a second time...but if you have room for debate about who won then you have a reason to buck up next week/month whatever...until the hype reach high enough that a trophy clash keep.

      I love your thinking iyah ! Great comment ! However, during the World Clash Series great rivalries were created while trophies were being won. I respect your point and I will talk about it further in one of my future episodes.

    It will never go back to the old days. Very sad but very glad I got to experience the golden era!! No disrespect to Matterhorn or Linx but those 2 did more damage to the culture by transcending the sound game. Having 1 foot in and 1 foot out gave us a watered down product. Also I don’t know how or why but when the 45 was replaced by the computer it felt different to me. But I’m glad I got to experience World clash, Biltmore ballroom, Q club , Jamrock and even Q45… Some of the biggest clash ever and we can’t leave out the juggling sounds. Road international comes to mind. Man I hate that I can’t go to Vp or original records to pick up cassette anymore. Final statement, let the sound system be sound system and let the artist be artist, can’t be dutty wine on Thursday and sound killer on Friday. Oh before I forget, what ever happened to Adonai , the sound of the future?? A good sound that disappeared…..

    Yesss!!!you hit the nail on the spot,I've been saying this,the lack of "Rivalries"...too much segregation with the clash sounds and juggling sounds everybody ah friends and what soundmon dem nowadays don't realize is that the veteran soundmon dem was friends but when it comes to soundclash arena it's just warr friendship dash weh..nowadays soundmon want to friend up other soundmon to know what's in their dub box and also if ah soundmon has certain dead artists in there dub box soundmon don't want to clash them..everybody wants to win nowadays nobody wants to lose!! You have to lose to win the lack of bravery with this new generation of soundclash is very Heeediot,and also there no more traveling to studio too studio to cut dubs and bill vibes with artists too much call and order like ah chicken&fries soundmon is dealing with,and I can go on&on cho! • @TriadzEvents
      @TriadzEvents 2 года назад +1

      Rivalry the way I see it can and should start in juggling dances where one selector throw word at another selector and build momentum for a clash/clashes. Perfect example would be Notorious (little shabba) and Chris Dymond, they had a online squabble last year but I don't know why that didn't result in a clash

    I can remember, it was long side dances that helped sparked big clashes. Going to a dance for example spectrum and LP would be juggling then that popped off lead to a major clash, but they build up the hype by keeping more juggling dances. at any given time if LP was on a bill spectrum would pop up drop two tune and vice versa. I think sounds need more juggling dates to bring in the crowd and draw in the younger generation.

    Sound clash in the UK died in the late 80s, Saxon, Coxson, Unity, Shaka and other sounds just seem to shut down one after another. At the same time warehouse and acid house was growing in 1988, and some say it was these new scenes that killed it off, plus there were new laws about party and gathering. I've still got a few Downbeat/Saxon tapes still.

  • @abusilahi4337
    @abusilahi4337 2 года назад +1

    There is still rivalry but it’s rivalry that was built from back in the day. For example if a promoter put on a clash today between Addies vs Jaro it would sell off.
    If someone put on Trooper vs Links today it would sell off.
    If someone put on Rodigan vs Waggy Tee today it would sell off.
    If someone were to put on Addies vs LP today it would sell off.
    However the sad fact is that no promoter can financially afford to put on any of these clashes due to the ridiculous prices these sounds are charging.
    I know several promoters tried to put on a 25th anniversary Rodigan vs Waggy Tee clash a few years ago. Some of them even offered almost crazy money but they still refused. From what I heard one of them wanted even more money which was *truly* crazy but ain’t no promoter in the world paying that. So it’s probably a get out clause for some of these sounds to get out of clashes. Which is the tactic that Saxon started after their 94 World Clash win where they would intentionally out price themselves just to get out of clashing.
    Big up Chin for never being afraid to talk the truth.

    Mr Chin respect to you and your long time work and commitment.
    Simple: each sound team should be regulated as a division such as Heavyweight, Middleweight etc each sound should work towards a title clash, each contender are valued as depending where they are in a sound system league, for example Ricky Trooper #1 should be paid $18000 Trooper always pull in the crowd and sell tickets by consistent & representation, sound system winner should pay towards promotion $2000 other sound should pay $1000 to promotion to keep the gate prices real for the people

    From my perspective as a likkle ute inna the business that doesn’t clash but loves the war arena a think the decline stems from what chin said in ep.1 sounds over charging, nobody nuh wah clash cause the fraid fi lose and a next issue is some sounds don’t have war heads on most of these sound it’s just jugglers put some jugglers in the war arena they can’t necessarily perform and The audience is a next problem most 20 something year olds not turning out for clashes cause the “hot sounds” and the “hot selectas” that are rocking these juggling events are not venturing into the war arena and this is why code red is breaking the mould as a “ young sound” with a “young mc and young mixer “ and turn the business on its head. Now and code red is developing a rivalry with odessey and trooper

    If I'm a sound owner ain't know way I'm spending $1000 on a dub that the artist can't change the lyrics and/or put it on a different riddim, that means I'm overpaying $999.01 for a 45. If I'm to clash three times a year and I think I need 4 of the new hot songs. That's $4000 and if I tell the promoter $7000 it makes no sense. I would rather Juggle 45's to kill and bring younger crowds in the venues and

    Irish and chin also played a part in the decline of sound clash
    Don’t get me wrong they did a lot of good things too, eg reaching out other sounds from other nations and making it a global thing
    But for the me the more sounds partake in a clash the more it gets watered down
    Microwave clashes I prefer to clash them were the downfall
    The only way is go back to basics, authentic clash from back in the days
    These days too many rules, let’s get to basics
    Just my thoughts

      Point taken! Ask yourself this thou... How far do you think the original format would have taken the industry. World Clash started in 98. It got globally popular in 99. Would the original format last from say.... 1995 until today ?? World Clash worked because the stand up around sound thing was dying. It's easy to blame me, but my format entertained clash fans around the World for over 2 decades. If you do the math... the dub-plate & 45 sound clash era (sounds clash without artists) began during the later half of the 80's. The popularity of the stand up around your sound dub plate era started to fade before the year 2000. The microwave era, as you call it.... was in full swing by the year 2000 and peaked between 2018 - 2020. How come the microwave era ( that destroyed the industry) last longer than the golden period you are referring ? No disrespect but please explain with facts NOT opinions

    • @Darkchild444
      @Darkchild444 2 года назад

      @@garfieldbourne2448 respect for your response and trust me no disrespect meant at all,
      I believe original format would have worked up until today,
      You got clashing onto the global scale but with that it brought new rules to the clash arena which I believe helped in the demise of clashing thing
      You promoted a lot of clashes in your time but people will always talk about the king addies and Kilamanjaro clash, which I believe used to old format but it is still clash thats talked about the most
      You did a lot of good work too, taking clash to higher heights, and we enjoyed your clashes , so its not a blame game but merely expressing my opinion
      My point in short is we need to get back to basics

    Chin right as rain bout rivalry. Problem now is to create rivals and a platform for them to compete. With the internet and live streaming, I'm not sure if the profits have gone up for the promoters because technically there is no limit as to how many people can watch (and pay) for a live event. I think more advertisements and promotion of PREVIOUS clashes need to happen as I find it hard to find recent clashes and I'm searching for it! What about a casual fan who happen to stumble upon a clash and start love it?? The market need to increase. Both from a sound system level as well as a promoter level. My two cents....

    I don’t agree with chin one bit. And my reason is I am a sound clash fan and I use to play music as well I bought records and I cut dubz, Sound system is a business and not a hobby, u can’t be running a business at a lost even if u are getting paid to clash. Some local so called big artist is charging 500-1500USD for a special. Now if u have a clash coming up and u charge $5000. Where would u get the money to cut those dubz. Thirdly. There’s is not sound loyalty from artist anymore which change the game a lot because artist now a days don’t see a great need for the sound systems. Because of the availability of social media and the easy access to promote their own music 🎼
    Also chin the music it self has change which in my
    Opinion is not even reggae or dancehall music. These dubz are not even worth cutting. They have no substance or stability. So u can’t jsut say it’s the sound man them alone. If a promoter hire a sound it’s the promoters job to promote their business and make the efforts to draw crowd
    When was the last time u ever see a give always in a sound clash. To make it attractive for patrons Chin is just talking as a promoter as only seeing it from his point

      No disrespect but you gotta understand the culture to arguing certain points. Sound clash culture has "NEVER" been ran as a business in regards to dub cutting. There are sound systems sitting around with dub boxes that value 2million USD! Ask them how much they made off of their investment! I will answer for them... NOTHING! Buying music, cutting a few dubs, and playing at a few parties is a different world than where we are coming from bredda. Your dubs are apart of your equipment needed to do your job. Promoters should not have to pay for that! you don't give the promoter your dubs after the event is over!!!! Sound MUST charge what they can pull!! pulling power is the name of the game!!! fuck dubs cost! if you cut $10,000 USD worth of dubs and you cant pull 10 people how does that help the industry or the promoter ?????????

    Jaro and Blackkat clashed regularly but it was one sided. Jaro dominated BK throughout the years.

    If you kill the root of a tree, it's sure to die. Sound system culture has been under attack from the Jamaican Government for years now. It was expected. Without venues to play a sound system, no real talents will rise. And if that is not fixed soon.......

    Respect Chin I hear your take on the derailement of sound clashes in the world. However I also think that you help derailed the clash arena when you stop keeping the World Clashes in Jamaica. Each and every Easter Mondays we Jamaicans were always looking forward to that Compition and there was no other clashes in Jamdown that brought out so much patrons both males and females as well and not even Usain Bolt got so much horns of aprasials as these sound systems and there selectors, both old and new. I rememberd one year when Silver Star from westmoreland had all the Dinasours worried, then there was this year that Black Blunt as a new sound on the World Clash scean was very Impressive as well and lets not forget that it was same World Clash that saw Mighty Crown becoming a sound to be reconed with. It brought out the best of BassOdyssey, Black Kat, Mighty Crown, David Rodigan, Tony Matterhorn etc.
    And as for Rivalry I must agree that it helps to keep the great in the world of fame weather it be Juggling or clashing. Remember some of the most competitive Jugglings of all time " Road Star / Inner City One for One. Inner City /Gemini, Stone Love / Metro Media, / Gemini, / Jam Rock, / Renaissance / Travellers etc. While the most dangerous Clashing machines were sounds Such as Body Guard, BassOdyssey, Black Kat, KillamanJaro, Silver Hawk, 4x4 Exodus, Super Dee, Pieces, Turbo Phonic just to name a few from the past all these Sound system played a part of the Clash Industry nuff respect to these and others sounds and selectors whom have contributed in some form...
    .Bless up yuhself Chin ! Peace out......

    Chin so far you’re hitting all the key points the rivalry and frequent competition was vital I think the last two rivalries are Matterhorn and links and bass odyssey and king addies those 4 took it all over the world and the competition was epic the mighty crown bass odyssey was a short and sweet one compared to the others I mentioned

    Sound clash rivalry is a natural thing you cannot force or manufacture rivalry.
    Chin says it's a couple of years now there has been no rivalry. Where have you been chin it's corona time 🤣🤣🤣

    Good conversation but it sounds like you're lobbying for sounds and selectors to create rivalry to keep your venture of doing sound clashes going. Have you given thought that just maybe sound clash has run it course and people are looking at new forms of entertainment.

      Sounds a slap down each other since the mid 1950s...Tom The Great Sebastian, Count Smith, Sir Nick The Champ, Vee's Rocket, Duke Reid, Sir Coxone's Downbeat to name a few.

      Respect for the reply, point taken. Maybe a different approach to rebrand and revamp the sound clash culture should be taken to keep it relevant.
