  • This was a little project I did to fix and improve the design of my Squire by Fender P-Bass Precision bass.
My modification basically makes the pickguard really similar to a Fender Jazz Bass, because I replaced part of the plastic pickguard with a metal piece.

I have the same bass, pickguard broke in the same spot! Never thought of replacing just the broken section, like you did. Turned out nice enough I think I'll give it a go. Thanks!

I have a similar split around the far end screw on a 1971 P Bass. Those vintage ones are expensive to replace. I decided I'm going to turn the pickgaurd over and epoxy (plastic weld) a thin plastic sheet behind the pickguard and broken-off piece to hold them back together. Will drill through that new piece for the screw hole. On the instrument, I'll probably need to router out a little depth to account for the patch piece and let the pickguard stay flush to the body.

Looks good at the end. I had that same bass and mine broke the same way. Stepped on it. They don't make those 14 hole pickguards anymore. I may have to try to do what you did. Well done. :)
