Thank you for posting. The "Jenufa" finale always brings tears to my eyes. No matter if sung in German or in Czech. :-)

Delighted you enjoyed it. I adore it too, one of the most moving scenes in opera. I think it is in Czech here. You should also check out Fleming’s studio recording of the famous act 2 scene with Georgien: it is incredibly moving too.

Thank you. I assume that this is Janacek's original scoring.

It’s mentioned in the video description. I couldn’t find a single photo from that production. If you know of any and where to find them, I will try to change it!

thanks, I didn't read the whole description. If I ever see a picture from the production, I'll let you know. I'm always happy to hear recordings of my brother. He's my favorite singer, even if I am biased.

@@michellebakerlee He is certainly wonderful in this clip, muddy though the sound is.

I had no idea that Fleming ever ventured Janacek; perhaps had she ventured further into this rep she might have been a more interesting singer although there is no questioning the beauty of her voice. I have no idea what language she is singing--surely the original although she claims to be fluent in German and that was the language that was used for Janacek in the early days of his revival. From Janacek to Carousel--a strange journey.

davy91101 I've seen some sources that say this is an English translation, by as you say it's hard to hear from the murky recording. I've listened very carefully, and I think some bits sound like the Czech but I wouldn't put money on it.
I think Fleming was a fascinating singer! Such a broad repertoire, and so excellent in so much of it. The prime years 1993-2004 are astonishing by any standards.
She is fluent in German by the way, and French - plenty of interviews on radio and TV in both countries attest to that.
