I am running a 2308 1300kv motor with an 8050 prop. It has like 1.5kg thrust and it's crazy. Yet it can cruise at like 1.5 amps if you really try. Got about 20min flight time with a 1440mah 4s going down to 3.6V.
I'm running a 6x6 on a 2410 1750kv prototype motor that is no longer available on 6s 2250 with a 60 amp esc. Runs a bit hot but gets 150mph level! Mid throttle is over 70 mph. Gets 10 minutes mixed flying, but I like to go fast! I'm thinking of going to a mini drak power setup to see if I can't break 200!
very well thought out. my drivetrain = T-Motor F90 2806.5 1500KV, T-Motor F35A 3-6S, and a homemade 4S1P Molicell P45B pack (21700). I use Aeronaut Cam Carbon Folding Propeller Blades 7x4", with a Pichler Prop adaptor (folding prop) KLS 58mm | Ø 4.0mm.
Clean build indeed. My powertrain upgrade includes: Motor: 2808 @ 1950KV, Prop: 6045, ESC: 80Amp, Battery: 1800-2200mah 6S lipo for high speed flights / 4000mah 6s lion for long range endurance flights With these upgrades the model easily reaches 120 mph.
Very clean. To get the best of both worlds with the servo wires you could use an extension lead, then the extension can be tidy (possibly add a place for them on the 3D printed baseplate?) and the servos can just plug into them in a convenient place.
Nice build. A great power train which runs on 4S for this aircraft (and can go just over 100mph without diving) is TMotor F80 Pro 2200Kv/Flash 6042 prop/50A ESC
Very clean build @giz, an idea on the servo would be to shorten the servo wire just inside the wing, and use an extension from the FC to reach the servo. I would make it so you can disconnect and you can run the extension under the fc base. It would look a lot cleaner
Nice build! When I saw you put the two 3D prints in, my thoughts was immediately that's a lot of weight. My two Dolphins I put on a sunnysky 2216 1250Kv turning an 8x6 APC-E prop and that has lots of grunt!
Love your design work on the 3d-prints. Very professional and pragmatic designs, well thought out for access, snap-in mounting, etc. Good inspirations. The under-floor wiring has a zen feel and gives the whole project a polished finish. This is the most hot-rodded under hood wiring setup I've seen. Excellent craftsmanship. For wing wiring connection, it might be possible to use pass-thru pins (like used on FC) to integrate floor plugs near the wing root area, with a second permanent run of wiring under to floor to the FC. I've seen a few people turn the Dolphin into a twin, but that's pretty major, as requires a rethink interior layout to keep CG location balanced. This one way to level-up performance.
I did actually consider changing the wing wiring, so that the electrical connectors were at the root of the wings. I saw someone who did that - they installed custom connectors with 3d prints in the wings. However when it came to the build I couldn't find his post, and was too lazy to design the parts myself lol. Something I might still do one day tho :)
@@gizfpv Finwing Hobby list "9+2 9W2 VTOL/UAV Connectors (male/female)" on their website under accessories. I've seen a number of models use these "9+2" (9 signal + 2 power) connectors. Beside Finwing, ZOHD uses on their lasted model. They can be found online from other sources as well. Not sure if they're a standard electrical connector repurposed, or not.
Great job. Very impressive. My dolphin is due next week and I will have the 3D printed material ready to go. (thanks for the files). I dont think i will try to reassign the GPS and Receiver plugs because i have no idea how to do that (wish I could) Thanks again
Well done Giz. I'm going to try and make my next builds almost as clean as yours 😀 Just need to order a 3d printer. Thinking of the Bambu Labs A1 Mini.
i’ve put a aos supernova 2207 with a 60-70A blheli_32 esc so that i can fly it on 4S with 7” (7042x2) props and on 6S with 5” (5036x3 or 5152x2) props. on the bench it looked great but still need to test fly it.
i’ve actually decided to go with a brotherhobby 3115 1520kv and run it with either 6s 7057x3 prop for daily flying or 8s 7x8 to try to break that 200mph barrier
I’m just building one now, what a fantastic job you have made of yours, very impressive 😊, can’t wait to see your next video on it. Ps…are you going to release your files for the prints, they look great, a lot of work their getting everything to fit nice., the vtx is in a perfect spot 👍🏻
That really is neat! I wonder if you could upload the tray files as a step file as well? I would love to remix them for my own components and a step file makes it soooo much easier to work with in CAD :)
I ran a 2216 2200 kv on 4s with a 6x6 prop and it was a rocket but I failed to upgrade to a 60a esc (from the 40a ) and the esc tripped while going 110 mph cause a fatal crash of the aircraft
Hi giz! Followed your channel for years buddy!! I use to fly myself years back I still have my controller which is a taranis x9d plus is this still a good controller? The stock motor and prop isn't that great. Add in the limited current from the Lions and there's your underpowered answer....Great clean build though matey....I'm surprised at the position of your battery. Imagine if there was a GoPro brick up front too ..😮😮😏🇬🇧
The stock powertrain is just not great, I think when people say that the dolphin is a great aircraft they are mostly talking about their dolpin with an already upgraded powertrain. Your dolphin defenetly isnt overwheight, but you should ask some people where they have their CG and what powertrain they have, maybe ask bonafidepirate
Well done ! Actually the extra weight with the original engine is not a good thing. To improve the model, why not a twin-engine 6S (watch youtube, a guy made the modification, the links to the STL files are available in his videos. ruclips.net/video/AG0i__9VaIk/видео.htmlfeature=shared
I did actually originally think about doing this, but then saw the issues he had getting CG locked in. I wanted my build to be clean and didn't wanna be sticking nuts and bolts on the tail lol
I always wanted to build clean like this... But I did the spaghetti plate and it works great lol! Mine goes 150mph on 6s. Love it!
My Dolphin is also a sign of OCD wiring. The big bays made it relatively easy to practice the art of Wire-Fu. Nicely done Sir.
The red leds on the black frame are sick

I also used servo arms to secure both canopies and cut relief holes in both canopies cause they like to blow off once you go over 100 mph 😅
